Please add support for Android Wear devices to the Android Fitbit app like you did for the iPhone 5S and HTC One M8. 🙂 The current Android Wear devices (LG G Watch & Samsung Gear Live) all include step counters.
I'd love to see a FitBit app that is able to work on Android Wear or on a smart phone as a fitness tracker. If you are wearing a FitBit device at the same time, I'd like for it to be able to determine that the steps are at the same time and only accept input from one device (which you should be able to choose from options).
It has been said before, but it makes sense that although I understand that FitBit want people to buy their fitness products, making their software more compatible with more devices would only make them a bigger player in the field and whilst they may lose sales in hardware, if their platform is widely accepted as being useful, which I expect it would, they could make more money on the software side. Even if the app was free to existing customer and with the purchase of a device, they could charge a small fee for those others who want to join the community.
I too was about to suggest the same. I would love to see an android wear based Fitbit watch. I have been wearing my Surge EVERY DAY since January of 2016. There are a lot of features that fitbit is lacking that I would love to see added. I am not an avid walker or runner. I do a lot of weight lifitng and HIIT workouts. I would love to be able to count and track reps and sets from the workouts that I perform daily. I'm not as worried about calories and my HR when i'm lifitng. Since these ideas have been presented countless times in the community and with every new device Fitbit has presented, none of these features have been added. I think the next step for fitbit is to:
Release a new device to add these features
Update current devices (Charge HR2, Blaze and the Surge) to add these features
Follow the lead of 2 new devices that have been released to do what Fitbit does just as well plus more.
The 2 new devices I speak of are the Atlas Wearable and the new Polar M600. While the Atlas wearable has a proprietary OS, it can not only track reps as sets for weight lifters but it can also monitor your HR. You can even train it to idenitfy exercises that are not in the core data base. This is a tempting "ALL IN 1" wearble that's worthy of Migration from Fitbit. The only drawback to this device is that it can only be worn on the Left wrist and it's bulky making it a device that can't be worn for all day tracking or sleep tracking. The other device I speak of is the core of why I'm responding to this idea. It's the Polar M600 watch. This is Polar's Android wear based watch. It's not only equipped with Polar's world renouned HRM but it's android wear based. This means that there are other Android wear fitness tracking apps that you can load to the watch that will recognize exercises for weightlifting and HIIT workouts along with tracking reps and sets. To add to this, Atlas is now in the process of creating an Android wear app that will do the same as their wearble in tracking exercises, reps and sets. This is a double whammy. Once this app is released to the public, I won't have to buy their bulky wearble (which works great from what I've read). I can buy any Android wear compatible watch and track everything from Reps, Sets, Calories and HR. This means, I can migrate to the Polar M600, Load the Atlas Android wear app to it and track ALL of my workouts. The Polar M600 can be worn for all day step tracking, sleep monitoring and it's water proof. The only drawbacks to this watch is that it only comes Black, White or Red and it's also really bulky.
Fitbit, you're a great wearble. You are definitely a powerhouse in the wearble game and your dashboard is among the best but you're quickly losing ground. What you have over the 2 that I named is your devices are less bulky and more fashionable for everyday / all day wear but you need to take this community A LOT more serious and make moves. Staying propietary is only going to hinder you and make you lose more people if they're not getting what they want. It's been said so much in this community that not everyone is a runner or walker. People who do crossfit, Bodybuild / Powerlift and HIIT workouts want more than just calorie and HRM tracking. The 2 companies I named are amongst the TOP companies that are listening to what consumers and Athletes are requesting and they're putting it out there. They're even asking users to beta test new software and hardware.
Wake up and Catch up Fitbit. You're falling behind and FAST...
@RickyFitbit has there been any update on this since your comment in 2014?
As an owner of a fitbit flex and a Moto 360 I would love to be able to use the step data from my Moto. Given the option of either wearing two devices or not tracking to fitbit I'll take the latter as it is more convenient.
I could understand why you guys would be hesitant to do this - your software is free and is paid for by your hardware sales. I love the fitbit software and would be happy to pay a premium fee to be able to use it with non fitbit hardware. My guess would be there there is a whole segment of Android Wear users that feel the same.
Well unfortunately my solution to this problem is going to be to switch to Garmin. one important reason i wanted the integration was so i could use a golf app on my wrist. Garmin has a device that mimics the fitbit hr and adds gps golf tracking. I think it's called the x40. I think fitbit is in trouble if they don't evolve. Otherwise they better invent a smartwatch that is on par with the Samsung and Apple watches. Smaller is better fitbit
I have a FitBit One. I've had one for years at this point. I have no interest in a FitBit watch or any of the other FitBit devices that I wear on my wrist. I like the Asus Zenwatch 3 I just got. I do not want to use Google Fit; I like my FitBit.
So it's annoying to have no integration here. I really wish FitBit would provide Android Wear integration so that I can use the watch to see my daily fitness performance.
Fitbit blaze and Fitbit surge here, Android wear integration would be ideal as someone whom uses 2FA apps requently being able to accept the push notification from my watch would be ideal.
Added a vote, I hope such integration is added soon at least for the blaze.
This idea was first submitted back In 2014 and has been reviewed. Are there any updates from fitbit whether or not this is even something they are working towards? I would love to be able to stay with fitbit and use my smartwatch. The other fix for me would be the ability for my fitbit to give me all notifications from my phone.
@honglong1976 you still need the tracker to record the steps. The integration with Android Wear is allowing you to see the dashboard from the Android device. Right now, if I want to see my dashboard, I need to pull out my phone or unclip the device from my belt to look at how I'm doing. I'd rather just flick my wrist and see the dashboard (which is already on the phone, so why not also on my watch?).
The fitness tracking ecosystem is fantastic with Fitbit. I love the way it all works together. Have gone through a Charge and a Charge HR (let's just say build quality isn't super great on these), but have now moved into the Android Wear ecosystem with my new watch.
Would love to be able to sync data around from the tracker in this watch to the Fitbit app. I mean, I know it'll not happen, but it's nice to hope, right?
I don't like the way the blaze looks. I am using the app every day. App with android please. Next stop is Apple Watch. I now have a 7, don't make me do it!
Yes please add. I have a fitbit, but because I like using it, it's the only watch I wear and I'm getting tired of wearing it now. Kinda want to try something new without havng to switch to another platform and leave all my data behind.
Since this feature request is years old and hasn't happened yet, I don't see it happening anytime in the near future. I've been in the FitBit ecosystem for over two years now, and have their scale as well, but I'd like to be able to have the option to swap my FitBit for a smartwatch from time to time and still have it track all my activities.
Now I know some people have mentioned that it won't happen because FitBit will lose money because people will not buy their trackers anymore, and I get that. Which is why they should release a separate app and charge for it, or make it so you can pay to unlock the app further to allow it to work seamlessly with smartwatches that run Android Wear, Tizen, etc. Charge $50 (or possibly more) for this functionality to make up for the fact that people may get a tracker other than a FitBit. I think people would pay. I know I would.
To be quite honest, I think if they don't do this, people may just cut their losses at some point and go the Android Wear route, and FitBit will be dead in the water. I don't want to lose all the FitBit data I have now and start from scratch, but I'm contemplating doing it anyway, because there is no way I'm wearing a FitBit on one wrist and a watch on the other.
Also, if FitBit has proprietary tech in their trackers that smartwatch manufacturers may want to use, they should probably look at licensing that out. Besides that though, I think FitBit needs to come to the possible conclusion that their future is more based on their software and ecosystem, and not their hardware. If it still is financially viable that they can still make one or two tracker models, fine, but if a consumer wants to get in to the FitBit ecosystem with non-FitBit hardware, or wants to remain in the FitBit ecosystem but use non-FitBit hardware, FitBit should feel free to charge for that privilege to offset the fact they’re possibly not selling that customer FitBit tracking hardware as well.
I’ve felt quite annoyed for a while that I have to wear my FitBit all the time to log my data, and can’t swap it out for a smartwatch, etc. I’m getting to the point of just cutting my losses now and going the Android Wear or Samsung route, and losing the 2+ years of FitBit data I’ve logged.I have a feeling in the not so distant future that many other consumers will do the same, so they should really be looking to implement it in some way pretty soon.
As the person who started this post, I can update you that after trying to manually add data to use my Huawei watch for business/social and my fitbit charge for exercise/sleep... I gave up and dumped the fitbit, just as the last post suggested people would. Too bad, fitbit is dead, at least to me.
In my previous post I touched on what *BriGuyCali *has stated and think it is true. FitBit aren't being smart in their business as their hardware isn't enough to keep the market, but it seems as a company, they aren't willing to listen.
I completely agree! The Fitbit challenges really keep me motivated to move my feet, but I have a $350 moto 360 collecting dust. At some point, I will be making the switch myself.
This is exactly where I am coming from too. I have a moto 360 which beats the fitbit on hardware but I'd love to still be able to send my data to the fitbit platform for the challenges and the social aspect. I'd be more than happy to pay a subscription for this.
Yes, please implement this. I love the Fitbit app, but the available hardware does not meet my needs any longer while the Wear products do. I would gladly pay a fee to be able to continue using your excellent software.
