Set via smartphone app. User defined inactivity timer gets device to vibrate if less thank number of steps taken or tine exceeded. Remind user to get up and walk around. Great for office workers sat at desks all day.
Why not use some of the fancy sensor processing to detect when you twist your wrist to look at it? Still extra effort, but less irksome than having to fracking touch your watch just to see the time!
Yes! This is exactly what is needed, IDLE ALERTS!! Brilliant! The jawbone up has this setting & would be majorly beneficial to the fitbit flex as a lot don't realise how idle or how inactive they are until it is pointed out to them & a gentle reminder that it's been 30mins since any movement would be an encouragement to move, even something as simple as getting up to make drink, stretch the legs, doesn't have to be a get up and do a run.. Just breaking up long periods of time of inactivity is hugely beneficial to us... Also the UP has the ability to send a reminder (vibrate) for eating, set own timescales as each person is individual etc but reminding the service user to eat at their appropriate times eg every 3hrs (we're all on busy lifestyles, rushing here & there etc) it's so easy to forget, end up skipping meals or going extra long periods of time between eating & this can be a severe set back when actively trying to lose weight as little & often is the key.. I think all of the above would be beneficial to all the fitbit accessories & successfully used.
I am thinking of switching to Fitbit from Jawbone. Honestly, this is the only feature that is keeping me with UP instead of switching to Fitbit today. Please add it so I can switch!
The UP from jawbone had an alarm where you could set an inactive time...so if you where inactive for 30 mins it would vibrate and let you know you needed to get up and move around. Great for long days at the office desk. Probably their best feature, I would love to be able to do the same thing on my Charge.
Just got my Charge HR yesterday and was disappointed that the Idle Alert feature was not a standard option on this product. Kinda like buying a car without seatbelts.....gotta have it!
My take on programming would be set via pc or app the times this feature works. I get up at 0600 and sleep from 2200 so set that as a user defined time span and the number of active steps. The device will still pick up small variations in movement so how about a minimum to be set via the user of X steps. If I go for a coffee within say 60 min I've been active but I'd only get say 20 steps. I'd still need more steps to "cancel" the next inactivity alarm.
Throwing in my vote for this feature. I've had several fitbits, but I'll move to Jawbone if this doesn't manifest soon. It's too important to me, now I know how much regular movement matters.
Yeah would be great for an idle alert and the ability to change between 15mins, 30 and 1 hour before it alerts you of your laziness, what also would be great is with the silent alarms to remind you of stuff is a little title similar to the caller id so you know exactly what u set to remind yourself please put this in an update please !!! 😭
Coming from the Polar Loop activity tracker, I have to say this was the biggest disappointment to find out that the Fitbit Charge HR doesn't alert you when you've been inactive for too long. It seems like such a simple feature in a pedometer based activity tracker - even easier when you also have heart rate data to back up the claim of inactivity! Also, with the vibrating feature, it would be so much more useful compared to the silent screen notifications on the polar loop that you would only notice if you happened to glance at the band right when the notification appeared on the display. It's even more discouraging that this feature has been requested and "considered" for over 15 months now. It really shouldn't be that hard given how broad set of data there is to analyze. For someone who sits in front of a computer screen for most of the day, this is an essential aspect of everyday health and an activity tracker should simply deliver this insight without a thousand customers begging for it in a bug report. Disappointed.

I can't believe that it's been 15 months without any comment from a moderator! I am [possibly] more disappointed with that than I am with the fact that there isn't an idle alert. It, unfortunately, speaks to the value, or lack, thereof, that FitBit holds for its users.
My work-around for the lack of the Idle Alert feature was to set-up individual alarms on the hour as reminders. However there are a limited number of alarms that can be set, 8 I think, so I went with 9am, 10am, 11am, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm assuming I was going to be somewhat active around lunchtime. I am not making any excuses for fitibt's lack of foresight when they omitted this feature, just suggesting a poor man's solution while I hope they make a change.
I would love to have an idle alert that the user could set the parameters. Badges would be nice as well. I'm a new user to Fitbit but am pretty competitive on getting my steps and badges. This would make me move even more!
Hoping for an inactivity alert. All that is needed is just a short buzz after X minutes of sitting. The Apple watch has this feature so why not the Fitbit Charge HR?
