I just noticed the Blaze when I went to the main page about an hour ago. This looks like they are trying to compete with the Apple watch. Now I see the plan. Developing new products brings in more money. Adding features to existing products does not. Follow the money!
Does anyone know what percentage of the features requested at this section of the Fitbit website have actually been implemented? I would guess it is pretty low.
Fitbit had a record year profit...... Just like blackberry once had a record year and dominated the smart phone market. Fitbit is earning its customer disloyalty.
Yes, the Blaze looks extremely disappointing. And the reviews I've read so far seem to agree. Lackluster at best.
As far as I can tell, it doesn't offer any new features at all other than style and fashion oriented "improvements". Nothing new that is actually fitness geared, mostly just new watch faces and bands to choose from.
Apparently Fitibit would rather try to become a fashion accessory company than continue innovating and pushing the fitness tech category forward. That is a shame.
If I just wanted a fashionable watch, I'd go buy a Hugo Boss or Invicta or any of a dozen other designer brands who can play that game better.
I would also like to vote to have this feature added to the fitbit. It seems that the technology is already there. The silent alarm and vibration when reaching a chosen goal are alrealdy being sent from the fitbit app. I work at a job where I sit most of the day, but since receiving my fitbit I have been trying to make a concerted effort to get up and move more often at work. A reminder that I have been sitting for a specified amount of time would be a great feature.
+1 vote fdor this feature. would love a little remider to move during the day (I thought that it was already capable of this. not sure I would have asked for one if id known it didn't)
Bump! I've been looking for a work-around for this to see if there's another way to access the step data from my tracker and use that for alarms using sites like If This Then That, but unfortunately they can't access that data due to restrictions on Fitbit's side...the best they can offer is along the lines of "if goal not met by [insert time], then text/email/call/etc. me".
An idle alert would be a great help, but only if I am able to customize the time frame. My work requires me to be in front of my computer all day. I try to get up and move around, but sometimes I get so involved in what I'm doing that I don't. An alert that I could set for a certain amount of time being inactive would help me at least get up and move around.
Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if the media outlets were wrong. I did find it interesting that they went into detail about it saying that " it makes you walk 250 steps before it stops alerting you" I'm wondering if they got that mixed up with the sleep alarm. Does that make you take a certien number of steps before it turns off ?
It doesn't make any sense as to why there wouldn't be anything on the Blaze web page or product literature about an idle alert if it had one, though. I'm pretty sure the reporters got it wrong and I'm still convinced there's some dumb legal or other conscious reason Fitibt purposely won't add this feature to their products.
The two major marketing points of the Blaze seem to be:
Fashion accessory (questionable)
Fitstar integration (which has an annual membership fee)
Otherwise, I dont see anything it can do that the Charge HR or Surge don't already have.
Anyway, I have zero interest in the form factor of the Blaze without built in GPS and full smart watch functionality. I want a dedicated tracker to be as small and light as possible, which was the main reason I chose the Charge HR - it was a little less chunky than anything else with heart rate built in. If I'm going to take the tradeoff of something big and chunky with poor battery life on my wrist, it had better have freaking amazing smartwatch features to make it worth it.
Besides just plain laziness my guess as to why they would not incorporate a vibrateion alert would be battery life. Maybe they are concerned that if the user sets the alarm too frequently it will reduce the battery life too much. But I participated in a trial recently that studied whether this exact method of getting people to move more would enhance their health. They sent me a jawbone that they programmed and it vibrated about every 15 minutes unless I was already active. I didn't even have to charge it every day as I have to do with my Surge if I use GPS so it seems the Fitbit developers should be able to do this. It just boggles my mind that the moderator doesn't say anything on this thread. Lack of information breeds discontent.
