My Garmin Vivofit did this. It motivated me to walk around and made me realize I was sitting for too long. It was its best feature. This feature is extremely simple and its a no brainer. It must be implemented.
Hello. When might you add the idle alert in an update? I am looking to switch to the Fitbit, but I don't want to do that until there is an idle alert as I sit at a desk all day and a nice reminder to get up and move would be very helpful. Thank you!
I'd love to see this added to the Surge with an option for OFF or minutes before alert! It would need to have an auto-disable while sleeping though... 😉
Yeah this is something I think would be great for my charge. I realize there could be some confusion between sleep and idle time, but I would imagine you could simply set certain hours that the fitbit wouldn't alarm you, because you might be going to bed (say after 10pm)
Why do all the other ideas have an answer like Under consideration and this one has nothing and more votes than most other ideas. When will this update be applied?
I too got the fitbit flex thinking it had an inactivity alarm. Advertising is misleading. When will this feature be added? Or should I return for something different?
I came here to post the same thing. I really hope FitBit adds this feature soon. At the moment, if someone asked me what I thought of my FitBit Flex, the lack of this feature would count as a strong mark in the negative column.
This is an absolute must have. I need the ability to have my device remind me to move in some form. I would prefer something similar to the Reign's "Go-Mode" but a simple reminder after not moving for a certain amount of time would be a big plus.
YES YES jsut a way to remind one to get up and move. I get so sucked into the computer at work would be great a little buzz to have me go walk up and down the stairs a few times.
Could work off the step counter so set number of minimum steps per hour and if not reached a buzz similair to alarm.
It would be nice for an alternative to have a similar visualization to the Flare clock face but instead of showing a progressive series of "flares" for each hour starting at :01 and working around to :00, the visualization can always show the past full hour (or some other predetermined amount of time). I frequently used the "leaves" on my One to gauge how active or sedentary I had been throughout the day aiming to maintain a certain number of "leaves". I keep finding myself glancing at my watch in the first part of each hour and only getting feedback for those first 5-10 minutes of that hour, not as useful IMHO.

Ideally, I'd LOVE for the Surge to vibrate after a set amount of inactivity, like many of the other trackers out there. When you have a desk job that sort of nudge is not only helpful, it is healthful!
I, too, would like this feature, especially since you are already advertising it on the Fitbit Flex which I bought primarily for the "reminder to move" that it doesn't actually have.
Just got a Charge and would love this feature. I sit for long periods at my desk, as I work from home, so really need something to tell me to get up and move. Hope this feature will be added soon.
A similar good feature would be to show the active vs. inactive periods during the day, including longest active and longest idle streaks. Jawbone offers this: See second screenshot of the Up App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jawbone.upopen
Yes, I agree with eveyone who suggests there be a vibration alarm notification built in to prompt activity when the user is sedentary for too long a period -- ideally the user sets the "too long" parameter.
An Idle alert was one of the things I was hoping to utilize with a fitness tracker, guess I should have done a little more homework before I decided on the Charge since it doesn't have it.
This request is over a year old....maybe it is already in the works?? I HOPE SO!! 🙂
I thought the Charge had this feature, that is why I purchased it. I admit I do like the other features. But, an inactivity reminder would seem to be a core function?????
