Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

While it's possible with third party software to sync records between the FitBit and Apple Health for iOS, please add direct support for Apple Health for iOS. This puts the FitBit at a competitive disadvantage with other electronic fitness wrist bands that offer this support natively. Support can be added by adding Apple's HealthKit API.

Please add my name to the list of fitbit users that would like the fitbit data to be integrated with the apple healthkit data sync'ing.  In this day and age we should have the right to control our data.

I too would like my Fitbit data to sync to Apple HealthKit. It's a basic request of you ask me.

For iPhone users, Integration with Apple Health is esential for integrating data from various apps and devices. I just got back into using my Flex and Aria scale and am truly surprised that the data does not integrate with Apple HealthKit. I also have an older Withings BP cuff. That integrates with Apple HealthKit, but not FitBit since for some bizzare reason FitBit decided to stop including BP data, so I cannot use the FitBit app to integrate BP.

Ultimately we are in a free market and FitBit can do as they please. Likewise, their customers can do the same. My wife asked for a Charge HR for Christmas--instead, I got her a competitor's device that does integrate with HealthKit. I will soon replace my Flex and Aria with devices that also link to HealthKit.

People need to realise that this thread is years old. I don't see Fitbit changing there mind on this. I have been critical in the past of Fitbit, and still don't understand it's decision, but I now use Sync Solver. No problems. But I don't find myself looking at health kit very often. It's the worst user interface Apple have ever come up with. The only benefit for me is in the UK Health Kit links with patient access so provides info straight to my doctor. I would suggest to people that if HealthKit is important to you then either use sync solver or buy another tracker. But constant requests on here is not the way forward.

The Apple interface is great so irritated that Fitbit will not link to it. Anyway, my best advice is to dump Fitbit, move on and get an Apple Watch or move to Withings products, which will sync across without fuss and other third party solutions.

Fitbit should support native sync read/write with Apple Health App as others like UP do. I don't see a reason they let other apps like MyFitnessPal share data whereas they do not integrate their app with Health App. People including me, would move to other trackers like UP in the course of time if Fitbit ignores this feature.

I have been a fitbit customer since the first devices came to the market.  As newer devices have come out, I've upgraded.  At the moment, I'm using a Charge.  I'm going to move up to an Apple Watch and would really like to continue my fitbit dashboard relationships with my friends.  I don't think that allowing native integration will diminish fitbit at all.  In fact, it will bring a whole new group of consumers to the fitbit dashboard, and eventually to the fitbit devices.  Not everyone that wants integration with the Apple HealthKit app is moving away from fitbit - unless you force us to by refusing to be cooperative in a niche market.  Being isolated will likely only lead to your eventual demise as other vendors provide what you won't.  I've been very disappointed in the Charge overall.  My primary concern being the poor quality of the device.  I purchased three for my family, and they have all fallen apart with careful use (and nothing different than the other devices that we've all moved up from that now sit idly in the drawer).  They've been replaced several times, and just continue to be poor quality.  THIS is why I'm moving to the Apple Watch...and because the Apple Watch will integrate with so many other things.

PLEASE make HealthKit a native integrated part of FitBit.

Thank you!

To iwatts and the long absent monitor,

It is not just in the UK that the HealthKit links directly to health care provider. My wellness plan (in the US) also has an app that links to HealthKit. I think its monsterous that FitBit provides this service to other platforms but denies it to iOS claiming one reason is because HealthKit doesn't cross platforms.

I wish they'd just integrate or tell us the real reason.

@magier412 you know, I think that is exactly why fitbit DOESN'T want people to integrate with apple health.

They don't want people switching to apple watch, or other competitors' products, and being able to keep being able to compete with their fitbit friends.

They have a solid position as #1 fitness tracker right now, so they want everyone locked into fitbit.com so that, if you switch, you lose your network of friends.

Pretty scummy if you ask me, and more reviews of the product need to be mentioning lack of integration with HealthKit as a key negative to fitbit.

Well, for me, it’s not only the problems with integration. They have made a really inferior product in the Charge, and they just keep replacing the dang things - when they KNOW it’s a bad product. I’ve had two, my friends have each had two and three. All got them at the same time. I’ll just convince my friends to move to Apple Watch - especially now that it’s nearly the same price as the HR. And does so much more. Oh well…the market will determine the outcome eventually - but i’m sorry to lose all the data I’ve been putting into fitbit for years…

@magier412 wow, I didn't realize the build quality was so poor. I think that's another reason why Fitbit isn't integrating. They want you to be sorry to lose your data, because maybe some people will be so sorry that they won't switch to a competitors product. Have you looked into sync solver? It doesn't sync heart rate but it seems to have been working well for me to sync steps from my Fitbit to HealthKit. It's $3 or so from the App Store.

For the new owners of fitbits. Just to illustrate how serious Fitbit is taking your concerns, go to page 110 to see the last post from a moderator.

I agree. Getting my Fitbit to integrate with my iPhone has been a challenge. I shouldn't have to pay for another app to import all my data especially when I just spent 150$ on a Fitbit. I should own all of MY stats and should be able to do what I please with all of my data collected I shouldn't be forced to spend more money on top of the money I just spent for the tracker. Please integrate this feature as I would be more likely to stay with a Fitbit rather than buy an Apple watch that integrates seamlessly. If Fitbit would like to stay relevant in this field you should listen to the people.

Come on Fitbit, support Apple's HealthKit already.  It's been way too long and appears to be the number one requested feature.  Strava supports it, LoseIt supports it as does tons of other apps.  I see this as a major short coming.  Thinking about returning my Fitbit HR that I got for Christmas for something that does fully support Apple.

I am considering buying a fit bit charge HR. The one thing that is holding me back is the fact that it is not fully integrated with Apple health app. This is a major drawback. It could be a dealbreaker for my family regarding purchasing a fit bit or other activity tracker. Please consider adding integration with Apple health in the very near future. I think your sales would skyrocket even more. Thank you

@riddles, I'd recommend returning it as many of us have requested and waited for this critical feature for over a year. Fitbit will have you believe they are listening to you. Maybe they are, but they are certainly not acting and positively supporting your requests and needs.

If you're an iPhone user and HealthKit integration is important to you, you'll be better off looking for a better device that does integrate (e.g. Garmin, Withings, Jawbone, etc.). It's obviously not a technical issue as these other companies are able to offer integration. Even third party apps like Sync Solver are able to bridge the integration gap to some degree. However, you're at the mercy of Fitbit changing it's API as it has done in the past to prevent these third party apps from successfully integrating Fitbit's data. It's obvious that Fitbit does not want your own personal health data to be integrated into your iOS device. They have gone out of their way to prevent this from happening. So, it's very unlikely that they'll provide this feature in the foreseeable future, if ever.

So, yes return it, get your money back. I wish I had this knowledge a year ago. Back then I had high hopes that Fitbit would integrate. We were all duped into believing that Fitbit devices are fully iOS compatible. But it's now beyond hope. Move on to better devices and more trustworthy companies that value you as a customer.

Please sync with Apple Health Kit. I am concerned it has taken this long for you to integrate your software with such a popular app. I worry this hardware will be antiquated very soon.
