Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

I was really excited when I ordered the Charge 2. I made an account and visited the forum and saw this post, which has been running since years!

Sorry Fitbit, I cancelled my order!

Fyi, Fitbit does monitor this thread. I received a message from the moderator regarding one of my posts that they did not like. Apparently Fitbit just chooses to ignore this integration request.

For your information, this is the response I received from Fitbit support when I asked if they followed this thread and why they did not post a response to it here:

"Thank you very much for this feedback your giving to us. At this point we'd like to apologize for the way you're feeling right now.

We'd also like to show you this list with the 3rd party integration partnerships we can work with right now, just in case you want to try a new one with full compatibility.

Regarding your inquiry about the Apple Health and the community web site, make sure at Fitbit we love to hear from our customers about how we can improve and innovate. We're sure our tech support are aware of this situation, and they're working on that.

Contact us if you need further assistance. We´ll be happy to help you.

Sincerely,

Juan Q. and the Fitbit Team"

Hardly indicative that they are taking it very seriously or listening to what their (former or lost potential new) customers are telling them.  I thought it was tech support I was talking to!!  By th time they get round to it, if they ever do, they will have lost most of their formerly loyal customers.  Fitbit if you are reading this, why don't you give us a sensible response?

I would love if we could sync FitBit data with my iPhone health app. It's been a few years now, when will we get a solution?

ibcarolina, This can already be done via third party apps.  This thread is about how Fitbit has locked out Apple watch from being a viable Pedometer.  You see, since Fitbit can't compete with such an impressive product as Apple Watch, they seem to think locking out those users will force them (us) to go buy a fitbit and are therefore relying on their name and reputation to get me to take off my amazing Apple Watch to put on their subpar Fitbit.  It's a money grab and it's unfortunate.  As history has shown Social platforms that don't allow open third party integration (I'm looking at you MySpace) will be put out of business by open minded and open door platforms like Facebook that to allow this kind of social interaction.  Currently there is no good alternative to Fitbit (opinion) that offers the platform like they do.  But that was true for a lot of companies, AOL, Compuserve, Yahoo!, to name a few, They all opened their doors when a competing product offered greater integration, but they were too late and got trumped by competing companies that were just as innovative but offered better flexibility.  Hence why Google is a verb, AOL is gone as is compuserve, replaced by open internet providers like local telco... I think you get my point.  Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it, and unless Fitbit gets their butts off their throne and humble themselves by listening to their customers and fans alike, I'm sorry to say this whole platform is going the way of the Blackberry.

@Ibanez1998

I see this a bit differently than you.

This is feature request predates the release of the first Apple Watch. The lack of the ability to sync our Fitbit devices to Apple Health has driven many users from Fitbit to devices from: Apple, Misfit, Garmin, Jawbone, Withring, iHealth, and others.

Many of of those apps have one way sync to Apple Health, the will write their data to Health, but not read data through Health for competing devices. I'm cool with that many of are. I understand the motives behind such a decisions.

The one way sync gets my activity data into Health where my diabetes apps can make use of it.

So i don't see this as get Apple Watch data into Fitbit, if it was, Watch would be in the title.

And those 3rd party apps, they have to use Fitbit's API which limits what data is synced and how, making the data useless for my needs.

iPhone SE, (abandoned Fitbit One), Jawbone Move UP, Misfit Flash, OneTouch Verio, and iHealth Wave, Core, and Ease.

There is currently no way to get my % body fat from the Fitbit scale to the ios health app. Seriously? I don't give a dang about challenges, just let me push the data from Fitbit to the iOS HealthKit app.

I vote for this.  I would be willing to pay a monthly fee or even purchase a Fitbit app that works with my Apple watch.  I currently am walking around looking like a dork with two watches on, since I wear my Charge 2 and my Apple watch.

Hi

Bought yersterday via internet my Fitbit Charge 2 and understand now that my fitness smartfitnesswatch might not be able to sync data to my iOS Health -app !!?

Please make this a feauture update so health -app can sync all the data i collect from my soon delivered Fitbit Charge 2 -watch.

Why is this a problem?

It's not just that the native Fitbit app doesn't support syncing with Apple Health, they have gone out of their way to make it almost impossible for anyone to make an app that can be released on the App Store to do intraday syncing of data.

If you make your own app for your own personal use then I believe the apis allow you to access the data. As soon as you want to make a non personal app they stop you using the same apis to get the data.  This is why none of the sync solutions in the App Store give you intraday syncing. It seems a very odd decsision!

They make a point of saying that the data is yours when you go to the export area on the website but refuse to let someone make an app to access it fully and to improve the usability of the devices for a lot of users.

Allowing the Fitbit to sync to Apple Health would be a great feature!!! Please!!!

This thread has nothing to do with the Apple Watch.
This is about syncing Fitbit data with the Apple Health app via HealthKit. None of the 3rd party apps can do this effectively because they are blocked from using intraday time series data.

It will be nice if Fitbit data sync automatically to apple health data. Saves me the trouble of using a third party app to sync it every night. When I fall asleep and forgot to sync Fitbit data for the day, it gets lost and not recorded even with syncing. Even if I enter it manually through pacer app, data does not show well on apple health.

I would love to see fitbit integrated with Apple health...it is sorely needed for full integration proprietary only efforts are not conducive for companies-  customers want integration.

Enough Already. I'm tired of seeing 20+ emails in my inbox everyday all commenting on the ridiculous farce that is Fitbit's protectionist stance. It's bothering me so why isn't it bothering them?  How can a company be so dismissive of its customers?  If you're like me and tired of this situation write a new post. And uncheck the box that says notify me when someone replies. It seems that Fitbit did that 2 years ago. Ignorance is bliss. Until it kills you.

I agree with the frustration. My searching for and posting to this thread was because of an xmas Apple Watch. I've been a Fitbit user for +5 years (from whenever the first beltclip Fitbit was introduced). I have a charge HR, as does my wife. We have the Fitbit aria scale. All this ridiculousness has both my wife and I considering leaving Fitbit all together, each getting an Apple Watch and replacing the scale with a Withings scale. Unless the Fitbit/HealthKit integration is addressed soon, my household will be leaving Fitbit forever.

Exact same scenario as Arthur_Dent Jogger.  Between my wife and I, we have 2 zips, 2 charges, 2 charge 2's, a surge, and an aria scale.  We like the devices and love the fitbit ecosystem.  We're connected as a family and enjoy tracking each others progress each week.

However, I was given an Apple Watch 2 for Christmas, which I love.  It is more comfortable and capable than any of the fitbit devices.  There are a couple of key apps that I really enjoy on the Apple Watch - just as Toodledo for my task tracking.

When I learned that the steps on my Apple Watch wouldn't transfer to the fitbit system, I was very disappointed.  For a couple of weeks I wore both devices - my charge 2 on one wrist, and my Apple Watch on another.  That got old fast.

I would love to wear the Apple Watch during the workday, and then use the fitbit for aound the house, during workouts & for sleep tracking.

I may just end up selling the whole fitbit lot on ebay and moving to an open system - which is frustrating - becasuse I actually prefer the fitbit app and website over Apple Health.  As I stated before in this thread - I would even consider a small monthly maintenance fee to use the fitbit app and website tracking with my Apple Watch.

I hope someone at fitbit is listening...

I couldn't care less that fitbit works with Apple Watch. I do not see why fitbit should support hardware from other vendors, they have their own.

On the opposite side, I believe that fitbit should at least write the data in Apple Health Kit, so we can get a full picture in one place.

Many of you talk about fitbit selling data, but I've looked around, I've seen no evidence that they are actually doing so, so unless it is pure assumption, there is no point in continuing on that road. Fitbit states that they do not sell, even if in their policy, there is some vague wording that could let them get away with doing so, but again, I've not seen evidence this has happened. If someone has some URLs, I'm interested.

There are millions of fitbit users around the world, we are just a few to express our opinion here, so even if it's been 2 years this post is running, it does not mean we represent the majority of users. There are Android users as well (I do not know if they have the same issue with Google health kit or whatever that is called), and they may not be interested in that, and there are tons of apps out there that sync with fitbit, which may satisfy the "majority" somehow.

I'm all for fitbit making the right move and open their app to write data in the Apple Health Kit, but threatening to leave them or spread bad word about their app will have very little influence. A fitbit tracker remains less expensive than an Apple Watch and to-date, Android represent around 65% of mobile devices, while iOS is only at around 30%. This is clearly not a priority for fitbit and for now, not a real threat.

Just stating how I feel about this and trying to be realistic with some real facts/numbers, not all assumptions 🙂

They absolutely do sell your data as is clearly defined in their privacy statement:

DATA THAT DOES NOT IDENTIFY YOU (DE-IDENTIFIED DATA)
Fitbit may share or sell aggregated, de-identified data that does not identify you, with partners and the public in a variety of ways, such as by providing research or reports about health and fitness or as part of our Premium membership. When we provide this information, we perform appropriate procedures so that the data does not identify you and we contractually prohibit recipients of the data from re-identifying it back to you.

They say they contractually prohibit recipients of YOUR data from identifying it back to you. If they never sell private identifiable data then WHY DO THEY NEED TO HAVE THIS CONTRACT?

Wake up!! Read their privacy statement on their website closely!!

They also state in their policy that should they be sold, or go broke they can do whatever they want with your data.

Hi! I am a Surge user and really love the tracker! It would be nice to have all data sync with Health in order to share all good stuff Fitbit delivers to other apps! Really hope you consider this update! Many thanks for the best device ever!!
