Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

@Bluejay I've been tempted to leave the boards and give up on fitbit in general, especially after this latest development with devices being pulled from the Apple Store. But that whole "under consideration" tag has me hanging on a little longer. Maybe I'm just naïve or silly but I was (am?) really hoping fitbit would come to its senses and integrate. I've been looking at other devices but I'm not excited about it.

@BlazeEBlake I know how you feel. We are not walking away because we want to. These choices that fitbit had made are pushing us away.

It is disappointing that Fitbit is not planning to integrate with HealthKit considering that I swear I saw a Fitbit on the screen at the Keynote. If not I guess it was wishful thinking. Whatever it may be, I really hope that Fitbit will integrate so I can continue wearing it and not shop for a device that integrates.

@Roithner Both a fitbit and the Aria were shown in the June Keynote, the 1st and 3rd device shown. That is why most of the users just assumed that fitbit would integrate. We had no clue until Health rolled out and there was not updated app. Then it took time for us to get any response.

One of my biggest complaints is the poor communication from fitbit to us, their loyal users, or used to be loyal.

@Bluejay i thought so. I agree that the communication has been terrible from Fitbit. Especially since Apple does not feature companies that do not support their environment. Wonder if Fitbit pulled out after The fact on pressure from Google.

Wow - not integrating with Apple Healthkit. I'm out, starting to look at other options.

I actually had a Withings Pulse in my hands tonight but decided to wait just a little longer. I really don't want to leave Fitbit or my friends list on my leaderboard. Strange how a group of people I don't know have become so important to me as I've watched their progress daily for a few years. I figure I'll hold out until the new Fitbits are announced, if it's fairly soon. I'm not interested in them--i like my Fitbit in my pocket instead of on my wrist--but I'm thinking their release will give us a clearer picture of the direction Fitbit is heading.

As a loyal fitbit user for several years, (+Aria scale) I am apalled by their apathetic response. It's completely absurd that they released an update to their iOS app claiming iOS8 compatibility when it does not even integrate with a key feature. Adding coding to export/import data from the Health app is relatively trivial to implement, this is purely petulant & stubborn behavior and is very disappointing.

I'm sure they are just miffed that new iphones since the 5S have included pedometer and other motion tracking features which compete directly with fitbit wearables.

Step it up, Fitbit, or get left behind!!

As to what we "envision" fitbit integration with Health app to be, simple - pull weight, exercise, and calorie info from other apps via healthkit, and update the same info with fitbit's data. If a new weight is recorded on fitbit, it should update Health. If a new weight is recorded on Health from another app, it should update on fitbit. The whole point is that different apps' data is all easily accessed in one unified place. It's obvious what we "envision" - it should WORK AS INTENDED.

Integration with iOS Health App is the ONLY reason I just bought a Fitbit and the Fitbit Aria. We do not need (nor want) to keep all this information seperate from all the other apps - the entire point of the Health App is to aggregate ALL the information so it makes our lives (the end user) easier. Keeping this seperate may serve Fitbit better, but I suspect it will hurt them more in the longrun. Stop 'assessing' this - show the community that you are actually here to serve and assist us in the best way possible, and just integrate it.

I have both a fitbit one and an aria scale.  I insist that you integrate with  Healthkit so that I can use the data from these devices how I see fit.

By not integrating you are simply forcing me to vote with my feet and my next device will not be one from fitbit.

Clearly there is a demand for integration with Healthkit if you just look at this forum.

Let's stop considering and start doing or you will be losing a lot of customers.

I will surely turn myself to some other fitness trackers in the market if the team is not working on the integration of Fitbit and Health on iOS8.

So yeah, I still want to vote for this useless petition.

Fitbit, I cannot wait to see the massive decline in your sales.  You have been given an amazing tool by Apple to help compete against the Apple Watch, and now you throw it away.  We are all begging you.  All 1457 commenters, and every Fitbit User would like that.  I was going to get a leaked Charge HR until I saw that you were not going to support Health.  So looks like I am going to pony up the cash and grab an Apple Watch.

I also use the fitbit scale and would hope to be able to sync my weight, body fat, and BMI to the iOS8 Health app. The ability to collect every health related data point into one app with the Health app is a tremendous step forward. It's disapointing to see this is not currently in the plans and I would ultimately abondon fitbit products if it does not integrate, in favor of other products that do.

10/8: We do not currently have plans to integrate with HealthKit.

Well that says it all right there.

All i want is my data to be in the app of my choosing, and in this case apple has created a functional way for me to see an overall summary of my data. Fitbit does not link cleanly with multiple sites i already use for tracking activities requireing workarounds to get data from one spot to the other.

My One is going strong now, but i plan on buying premium, exporting my data, and moving to a different platform come christmas if this isn't sorted out.

i switched from Jawbone to fitbit because of the innovation and support at fitbit, and now look who's lagging. Jawbone has IFTTT integration, multiple import/export options and full healthkit support.

You need to remember you are selling a piece of HARDWARE - your web interface isn't/shouldn't be your product, so let me use the hardware i love (the One) but move my data around.

Another vote for HealthKit integration in iOS 8!

@zapleahy is there any specific time period that Fitbit takes to consider ideas and then make a firm decision one way or the other? The Apple store removal and the lack of official response beyond what we have already heard and the persistent "Under Consideration" tag have me about ready to give up and move on. As I have said before, Fitbit has thus far put out some amazing products, but I would be doing myself a disservice if I caved and purchased something that is ultimately lacking in terms of my needs. On the other hand, I don't want to walk away and then you find the company has changed it's mind (although that seems unlikely at this point) and integrated. I guess at the end of the day I just feel a little strung along and am wondering if we will ever get a definite yes or no, like in the very near future. Anything you can offer us at all?

of course my adria must handover my data to the healthapp #healthkit

for me it was just a matter of time until that will be enabled, its technically not a big deal, right?

every webapp when authorized can pull this data from the API

i am not talking about the other vendors which are already capable of doing what we want todo also, have ALL the data in one place. in a built in app which can bring everything together to deliver something more big.

dont get me wrong, i love the fitbit ecosystem, its funny and i am here very long already.

the new steps battles are awesome and you enabled the iphone as a tracker long time ago already.

so fitbit please hear your users one more time

+$428.87 Healthkit integration. That's what I've spent on two generations of fitbits, lost fitbit replacements and my aria scale. No more $ for you without healthkit integration. Don't be idiots.

Stepping Up

Had the FitBit Flex for over a year, bought the FitBit Aria 10 days ago. Then I learned that your ecosystem wants to own my own data and doesn't provide its measurings to the Health App. I brought my Aria back to the shop and switched completely to the Withings ecosystem. They do have HealthKit integration and they even let me download my data without any paid subscription plan. I'm now trying to get some money back for my Flex by selling it on the web (although I guess prices may dramatically fall for FitBit products on auction sites during the next few weeks…)

Good bye FitBit, hello Withings!

I've purchased multiple products from Fitbit for myself, my wife, and my daughter. I own the their scale, and usually are on their waiting list for their newest product.  I'm also a big Apple fan and am very disappointed Fitbit has chosen not to support Apple's Health app.

It's difficult to understand what's motivating Fitbit not to play with Apple, but I'm pretty confident Fitbit will have to eventually integrate with the Health app. In the mean time Fitbit will lose market share.

I'll wait a little while longer before I jump ship. Hopefully whatever the issue is, or whoever at Fitbit thinks their bigger than apple comes to their senses.

Please integrate Fitbit with HealthKit, this seems like a no brainer, a better question is why would you NOT want to Fitbit?!

I can't imagine why a Fitbit & Aria integration with Healthkit would NOT be in the interests of Fitbit.  It's just an API, and integrations with other apps have been provided that would clearly not have the same kind of adoption rate that Healthkit would.  I personally have several health-related apps on my iPhone that overlap functionally, and to have a dashboard that combines this data into a single view would be optimal.  Short of this, I'll need to consider other trackers that do support Healthkit integration in order to meet my overall needs to get a good overview without having to open a lot of different apps to pick and choose various data that I need to track.  I like my Fitbit, but deciding not to provide a useful function like this may tip the scales away to another product.

@zapleahy on 10/14 you said:

As for whether we're "reconsidering," there wasn't a "no" or "never" to begin with, so rather than consent that we are "reconsidering," I will say that we are continuing to evaluate the performance of the platform while focusing development resources and talent on the projects at hand.

in the sticky bold comment on the front page it very clearly states:

10/8: We do not currently have plans to integrate with HealthKit.

You hit the nail on the head - i bought into fitbit after coming from a sub-par hardware experience elsewhere and found this company to be an innovator - now everyone has passed by and integrated Healthkit.

i have 8 trackers and 3 aria scales between family members and as of right now with no healthkit integration, everyone is moving to Withings for christmas gifts. It integrates with healthkit, the scale has more features and the tracker can be wrist mounted or put in a pocket.

If healthkit comes out, i would put that off as all the other metrics we track and share would be in one place.

GrahamR

@MGP4 Its not in their interest because they (fitbit) right now dont allow your data to leave - only to be imported. Healthkit has a built in export feature. How can they charge you 49.99 a year to export your data if they integrate with healthkit and then can do it for free?

Perfect example is the withings relationship. Withings scale can write to fitbit, but aria cant write to withings.

@GrahamR, if the true reason that Fitbit won't provide an export function to Healthkit because it would prevent them from charging for data export (I wasn't aware that there was even an option to pay for data export), then I'm already heading for the exit as far as Fitbit is concerned.  After spending considerable money for their devices, and providing data because I use those devices, I think that the data already belongs to me and that Fitbit is simply providing storage for that data.  If that's true, then I believe that I have the right to choose any storage solution available to me.  But if it comes down to paying to export data that I provided in the first place, I'm done here.  I wouldn't do that regardless of whether or not Fitbit wants to provide Healthkit integration.  I only want to see my data in a way that meets my needs.
