Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

My 6 month experiment is over and I'm passing along my Charge HR to a family member. That person can experience the fun of learning about their activity and get motivation from their Charge HR. I'll miss the morning silent alarms as I have switched to an Apple Watch.

The biggest downsides to me for Charge HR have been the lack of integration with Healthkit, the incorrect mileage tracking (I never figured out my correct stride), the change to the firmware which cycles through on tapping it, and the difficulty I had with comparing the graph data side-by-side with other data (hence the want for Healthkit).

So, with Apple Watch I'll gain the healthkit integration, sitting/standup alarms, plus a whole lot more.

Thanks everyone for sharing their request for Healthkit integration.

OK, Fitbit, here's where we are now:

  • Thread is significantly over a year old.
  • This is the most up-voted topic, by a small amount.
  • This is the most discussed topic by a huge amount.
  • It has been "Under Consideration" since last year(?)
  • Other device have had their apps healthkit-compatible since last year.

You do have choices, nut they are limited. At this point it boils down to:

  1. Implement the suggestion.
  2. Reject the suggestion.

You can't claim to be "still evaluating" at this point, without people caling BS. People who wanth HealthKit integration want it now. Actually they wanted it many months ago and some of us jumped ship. Either way, this isn't a "Wait and see" situation anymore. People are/were asking for actual functionality and it hasn't even been dignified with a firm answer.

To be honest, at this point, I'd go one step further and say you might as well shut down your whole idea submission section. At the moment, all it really shows is that features that many people ask for, and give detailed explanations of how and why, jst get strung along.

You aren't coming over as a company who takes customer feedback seriously. You're coming over as a company who claims, for PR reasons, to listen to customers but who basically ignore anything that doesn't fit their view.

Trust me, haivng a highly popular but permanently-under-review feature request really does nothing for your PR.

Implement it or reject it. But stop stringing along any remaining users by having it always iin a "maybe" state.

Once I can get the black stainless Apple watch with out the black Metal band I am switching to Apple watch. Even if they integrate into the HealthKit at this point because customer comments do not matter to Fitbit.

Another vote here for intergration with Apple Health - have to say had I known this wasn't possible then would not have been so eager to purchase my HR Charge. Wonder who at Fitbit thought that this wasn't a good idea?

I feel like I've been let down a bit from FitBit after spending £170 on the Surge to only find they have no plans to integrate with HealthKit? I'm currently using HealthKit to integrate and manage a lot of health data and to find FitBit have no interest in supporting it is disappoting.

The reason why HealthKit is such a good integration is it means you open your app and your data to read from other apps that sync into HealthKit. For me I plan to not keep my watch on all the time, I just can't do that. I also use other devices and systems to track things, it would be nice to be able to load in all my past data, steps, sleep activity and other data into the FitBit app. I've tracked 100s of thousands of steps into HealthKit but because of your lack of integration that is all lost and my FitBit Dashboard looks empty when it should infact load all my past data.

I would like to have HealthKit integration. I don't see any reason why the fitbit app can't write to healthkit. it doesn't do anyting to your platform.

Stepping Up

Hello everyone!

I saw this long thread today when I had bought a Charge HR recently that I'm very pleased with and also searching after possibilities to sync all data to healthkit. So I start up an instant chat with one on the team members on fitbit and tell them about this thread and also how important this feature is, especially when so many people really want this.

The guy I talked with have pass this information to his team members on fitbit and they will look at this request.

We need to cross our fingers that something will happen now after this chat and when they see this long thread I think they will do something about this.

Here is some lines from the chat:

You: it's more than 3000 people who want this feature and many have voted for it in the request forum

Fitbit team: Thanks for letting me know with those details, they are important to add it to my notes

You: Yes, look at this page (the url link to this page)

Fitbit team: Thanks for everything! ohh a lot of people have been voted for this

Ok, I passed it to our team

...

So let's see what's happening now!

edit:

Ohh noo, saw now that the fitbit team have decided to not integrate with the healthkit platform 😞

They will do what they have done for two years - ignore the request. My wife just bought a Polar loop - was tired of Fitbit's recalcitrance - it is waterproof and integrates with HealthKit.

You guys catch this. They are further limiting the usefulness of their dashboard. A quick fix would be HealthKit integration. ....…… We’re in the process of retiring a few of our older logging pages within the Fitbit dashboard. As of August 27th, you’ll no longer be able to manually log entries for: · Blood Pressure · Custom Trackers · Body Measurements · Heart Rate · Journal · Glucose

Yeah. Seriously. Less than twelve hours after the announcement there's a 19 page thread of replies of horror over the change. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Fitbit-com-Dashboard/Old-manual-logging-pages-will-be-retired-on-8-2... Which at least for Apple users could be mitigated by HealthKit integration.

I'd love to see it work with Healthkit in iOS 8. I do not want to use Sync Solver App. It is time that fitbit and Apple should work together!!!!

I bought the Charge HR to be expecting that Helth App and Fitbit work together!!!

Hey moderators of the forum or developpers of fitbit, do you have any news considering apple health?

@PKDaba I was accused of bring insulting to the moderators. I did point out that the way we had been treated by the moderators and Fitbit in general was insulting but that wasn't deemed worthy of a reply. By that I meant that they hadn't the guts to tell us it was never going to happen even though it has now been under consideration like forever. I suppose we should be pleased that they consider things so carefully. Oh apart from when they're taking parts of the dashboard away out of the blue. And apart from when it involves Microsoft who they just seem to love. We want health kit integration. I've never seen such a large feature request ignored by a company ever. Just as soon as I have the spare cash I will be jumping ship too. In the end not because they haven't integrated health kit but because they think they can get away with insulting their customers like they do. I bet your comment lasts longer than mine 🙂

Dropping in to thank FitBit!

Had it not been for their ridiculously negative customer service and lackluster iOS performance, I would never have even contemplated switching to an apple watch.

Switching to the apple watch is one of my best fitness decisions!  I love it!

I also would never have switched out my aria scale.  I passed that along as well.  I'm thrilled with my new purchase and how it seamlessly syncs with HealthKit.

Thank you, FitBit!  I was satisfied with your products until you showed me there are far superior products on the market today that far better meet my needs.

I wonder if the corporate phones are blackberry?

I have not gotten emails since the 8th. Must be glitch. But that is how I stay up to date on this topic. I can't view it from my usual wifi, because another commenter is blocked, and the blocked the IP address.

@HopefulRunner I made some modifications on the back end and the your issue with your IP address should be resolved.

Also, I'd recommend double checking your Community settings, specifically your subscriptions & notifications settings, to make sure that you have subscribed to threads that you want updates for.

Thank you. I have done that numerous times. It will work for a time, then changes on its own. Then I come back post, and flag to get emails when some replies. Any thoughts on the what appears to be IP address blocking. I had to use cellular data to post this, instead of local wifi.

Haha, Derrick (moderator) drops in to help HopefulRunner get notifications of all the integration requests that are being ignored! I will be selling my Fitbit Charge HR... - Fitbit ignore their userbase over HealthKit integration. Conduct is quite insulting. - Fitbit refuse to make simple amendments to heart rate zone implementation. Using an archaic formula, with no option to change max & min heart rates, and have zones recalc automatically. - If I walk, I generally have my phone, so most steps are counted. - If I run, I can't rely on the Fitbit to measure heart rate accurately throughout, a chest strap is needed. So I have my phone, strap, and headphones anyway. I actually don't need the Charge HR. I hoped it would remove the need of a chest strap, but it's useless by comparison n every way. Accuracy, consistency, relevant info. It would be nice to keep, but the utter disrespect shown by the company is enough now to lose me.

My spouse lost their One. Someone found it and has been logging steps, customer service can't help us find it. I think my spouse will be getting an Apple Watch. I'm still not getting notifications and home IP address is still blocked.

@HopefulRunner Our family has all transitioned to the apple watch.  Each of us is more than satisfied.  For a first generation product, it is really very good.  I look forward to its future enhancements.  The greatest thing is everything logs seamlessly into HealthKit.  The biggest drawback is battery life.  The longer we've had them though, the less of a problem that is.
