Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

Would like to voice my support for this idea. Would like to be able to track my activity, my weight, my blood sugar, blood pressure, medications, and other vitals in one place.  Not because I am obsessed, but because I'm using this technology to help me manage real health issues, with real impact.

We have invested in these technologies, our phones, our tracking devices because they work together to improve our lives, until someone unrelated makes a decision that requires us to switch. I'm encountering a similar issue with my health insurance provider, because they don't want to allow me to use a previously supported glucose meter that works with my phone.

My phone is with me throughout the day, and so is my fitbit. Why not integrate our fitbits to talk to healthkit? It would mean a great deal to users like me.

I just received my new fitbit Charge.  I like the form factor, I like functionality.  The style is perfect for me, understated and functional.  It's great, the data it captures is what I want.  And the battery life should be incredible.

The only disappointment is the lack of Healthkit integration out of the box.  That disappointment is what is sticking with me when it comes to my first impression of the Charge.  That is unfortunate.

Make no mistake this is a strategic decision by fitbit, which many of us disagree with.  If it's truly "our data", and if CEO James Park is not afraid of the Apple Watch has he has been quoted in articles and interviews.  What does it hurt to integrate with Healthkit?  If fitbit thinks they can truly compete, then do so; let the users choose.

Thankfully there is $2 app that can help in syncing the data, not without it's own foibles. It's a hack, and not a great user experience. The question that fitbit has answered is what experience do we want our Apple customers to have?  Would it be really wise to alienate Apple users by forcing them to only use the fitbit dashboard. Until healthkit integration happens, we have the answer.

It seems the powers that be over at fitbit are no longer even bothering with maintaining a pretense of giving two figs about what their customers want.  While it was clear many months ago, it is gratifying being proven right.

To be quite honest, I am finding my current method of gathering and maintaining my data rather cumbersome and lacking a bit in accuracy.  I'll live with this inconvenience until April when the Apple Watch launches.

I'm actually becoming increasingly excited about this future purchase.  The humorous thing is I have fitbit to thank for it.  I never would have even considered an Apple Watch if fitbit had not acted as it has.

FitBit does offer a nice line of products.  It's just their customer service that is in need of attention and improvement.  A dash of corporate honesty would also help.  You know that old adage about fooling some of the people some of the time...I urge you to think about it.

@zapleahyand the mods do not seem to being paying attention any more.

It has been more than a month since the posted on this subject.

I guess they are too busy with other projects, like spinning the stories of skin irritation from the new trackers.

I would like to have the option to sync with Apples health app. I hate to always enter the information in manually. I would like the option to use that app. Thanks.

I wish I had seen this before I bought my ChargeHR.

My wife has had a Force for over a year now and she really likes it.  I purchased the ChargeHR and am pleased so far.  I'm very dissapointed about the lack of support with Apple Health.  Fitbit makes so many devices that can intergrate with this software it's a shame they have chosen not to do so.  I like that Health brings all of these different sources into one easy to use app.

@Basalt We're definitely still keeping an eye on this thread and relaying feedback to the team, but we haven't announced anything new on this front. As soon as there's more information available, we'll be sure to let everyone know!

Add my voice to the people wanting Health Kit support especially now that fitbit can do heart rate. Steps and activity and heart rate syncing to a system that can measure as much as Health Kit can and will support will be game changing

@MatthewFitbit,

On the 6th, I mentioned that the mods had not made an appearance since 1/6/2015.

It took more than a week for a Mod to pop in and say hi.

I think these facts prove that this, while Fitbit is still keeping an eye on this, it is clearly on a back burner, or perhaps in slow cooker.

I like cooking with a slow cooker, you put the stuff in and can forget about it for hours. Set it in the morning and come home from work to tasty meal.

@Basalt Again, we haven't posted recently because there isn't any new information available. We're not in the habit of posting frivolously, but I assure you we are reading all the comments in this thread, and the interest in integration is still very much on our radar.

I agree with everyone else.  I am a new user to the Fitbit Flex, but don't like the fact that it does not integrate with the Apple Health App.  Come on folks, get on the bandwagon and get this fixed.  It already sounds like you have a lot of unhappy customers due to your not getting this app hooked up with Fitbit.  Digifit works with the Apple Health app.  Get moving and get this fixed before you lose anymore happy customers.  Also, when do you plan on making this happen?  It says last fall, well that is well over with and we are almost approaching the spring of 2015.

@MatthewFitbit,

I'm just pointing out that in my opinion saying nothing gives the impression of doing nothing.

I don't know if at this point anyone would believe if Fitbit posted once in a while that you are still analyzing this, but maybe someone will.

Fitbit said nothing after Apple's big dog and pony show (which included Fitbit rather prominently) that you may or may not integrate. You just kept quiet and let everyone assume what we wanted. I for one assumed you would integrate. I make no such assumtions now.

I'm just trying to give you advice, from my point of view of what is and is not good customer relations.

Cloaks of secrecy? Bad. Silince? Bad. Honestly saying what is going on? Good.

Mr. Park is confident that fitbit will do fine. Or so all the news out of CES said. There were jabs at Misfit for their blingy new Shine. There was a complete avoidence of the Apple Health topic. But when it did come up, I saw statements that sales are still strong (to sum it up).

Sure the sales are still strong, then new customers come on the blog saying, "Hey what gives, I got this assuming you worked with Health kit, and you don't." So sales are strong, but how are numbers on returns? How are the sales numbers of your competitors?

These are important considerations for a business.

Let me tell you what I have learned from trying other products.

Jawbone has the best IFTTT integration. I like the Smart Coach. I like it better than fitbit's primium Trainer.

Misfit has few nice features in the app. Selecting where you wear the device so it runs the right algerhytem, such as waist vs wrist and telling how many more minutes of walking, running or swimming it will take to get to your goal. Waterproof!

iHealth has an inactivity alert. They have a great Wireless Body Analysis Scale that measures 9 different components including body weight, body fat, lean mass, muscle mass, bone mass, body water, daily calorie intake (DCI), and visceral fat rating.

All of the above have Apple Health integration, some better than others, but it is start.

Fitbit has the best website.

Even industry leaders can learn from the compitiation.

I once read an article about one of the people at Misfit, how she wears like 20 different trackers. That is how you learn, but seeing what all the possibilities are and taking your own approach to it.

I don't really want to see Fitbit go the way of Blackberry, but right now... It is up to the powers that be at Fitbit. I wish you the best of luck.

PS.

Jawbone's IFTTT integegration allows you to import your Misfit or Fitbit activity. What that says to me is that they have complete confidence in their app. That says they will let folks use their app with other companies hardware. Which might result in Fitbit and Misfit customers getting a Jawbone when it is time to replace a lost or broken tracker.

There are a lot of health equipment on marker like blood pressure monitors, scales, bands, oxymeters, glucometers, thermometers. Unfortunatelly they are produced by different companys and are not compatible or some devices are simply not produced. Like Fitbit is not delivering glucometers. In order to put all data in one application something like health kit is mandatory. It can be one place where I would have information from all devices coming from different brands.

to say the truth I own Fitbit Charge HR. I am extremly satisfy with it but I would never bought it if I new that it is not compatible with Apple Health. I am in situation now that to review all my health data I have to open at least 3 different application. It is not a fun 😞

I think this is the wrong business model guys... I just returned my Fitbit Force in the free recall after the battery failed.  I was planning to replace with a Fitbit Surge, but as I have an iPhone 6 with Healthkit where I currently register my HR using a Polar Bluetooth belt and manually enter my step count from the Fitbit dashboard on a monthly basis, I am thinking I'd be better off buying an iWatch even though I don't need half it's functionality.  I've always been a Fitbit supporter, through One, Flex and Force, but if you are not going to sync with my iPhone where all my other data is held then this would mark my final walk away, for the sake of just passing the data across from the Surge to Healthkit.  Avoiding this is not saving your hardware market, it is forcing loyal customers away.

Yep. I'm out. Just found out about Fitbit and their insular ways. Surge - ultimate fitness watch? Bull dust. If your data sits in Fitbit and only Fitbit then you are running an archaic business strategy and customers will leave you in droves. I need the Surge to sync GPS and Heart Rate with Runkeeper (or other app, Endomodo, Strava etc) and the rest of the data with HealthKit and Google Fit.

Not happening and support sends me here to find so many others complaining. So as I said, I'm out. Can't return my Surge or my Charge HR now but I'm over using the Surge and the Charge HR will get binned as soon as the Apple Watch hits town.
