Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

I would really love to be able to sync my iOS phone with my Fitbit! Especially when I have to charge my Fitbit but can still carry my phone.

Trying to close their environment will bit Fitbit in their bum.

I would really like to see fitbit synced with the health app on iOS. I specifically got the Charge HR to keep track of my heart rate during exercise as I have a heart issue that makes it important to stay within fairly limited parameters. I also need to keep track of my blood pressure and have an iHealth BP monitor tha downloads automatically into the health app. I would like to keep track of all my stats including steps, sleep, BP and heart rate in one location. Frankly, I was very surprised that Fitbit didn't already make this possible. Had I known, I would have bought something else. I'll try the workaround app but am irritated that I have to do so. This decision by Fitbit not to sync seems so retro to me and will drive many users to other devices I suspect. Too bad because I really like my fitbit.

I continue to check back here in hopes that Fitbit has come to their senses. Would love to upgrade my Fitbit Flex (which replaced my original fitbit) to a Charge HR. Would love to resume recommending Fitbit to people who ask me about wearables. But until Fitbit listens to customers and makes data available to health info aggregation platforms like HealthKit and Google Health, I just can't.

Please, Fitbit ... help us (your long-time loyal customers) to help you.

Adios, Fitbit. 3 days into using my Charge HR, and the only thing lacking is sync with HealthKit. Until you listen to your customers, I'm selling this, leaving a bad review on Amazon and AppStore, and switching to a different wearable that does use this essential feature.

My Fitbit Flex will not sync with HealthKit.

Guess what review you got.

Guess what gear got good reviews?

Bye bye Fitbit, my reviews reflect your responses.

No posts at all is more accurate.

You don't seem to get it. Basically it is this:

You don't provide an interface for us, we go elsewhere. We lose nothing, you lose business.

Who gets hurt most by that?

(Clue: it's not us!)

Please get this sorted fitbit!, at this moment in time I'm having to use 3rd party apps such as sync solver to get MY data into the health app. You don't seem to understand what a mistake your making here. You were are the forefront of this  field, you now starting to fall behind due to stubbornness, trying to play it smart and a lack active listening to your customer.

To to be honest , I'm not really sure why im writing this as I get the distinct impression that you pay very limited attention to these fourms.

And to you answer your question, what I expect to get out of integration with the health app: I get to see all MY data in one place, easily trended and easy to compare to other measurements. I don't belive it would entail much as apps like my fitness pal and sync solver already do what should be your job for you. Minimum work to make this happen!

The benefit of a device like a fitbit is in its universal applicability, rather than being restricted with proprietary apps and locks.

As a huge Fitbit fan and user, I struggle with understanding why there is no integration with the iOS Health App. If your missison truly is to help ME lead a healthier, happier life, I think one easy way you can do that is allowing me to gain the absolute maximum benefit from your device.

WIth the Health app, I have an incredible opportunity to go from getting individual snapshots of my healty (calory tracker, sleep tracker, exercise tracker, activity reminder, body fat/weight, etc.) to getting one single COMPREHENSIVE overview using the tools and devices that I, as a consumer, choose.

To be honest, if this isn't something in the near future, then I'll need to find a device that's more user friendly when it comes to playing nicely with others.

I really hope Fitbit will reconsider their position on HealthKit integration.  This is actually an issue for me in the decision of whether or not to buy a Charge HR. Here's the thing.  As a consumer, I don't want to have a dozen or more health-related apps that don't talk to each other.  In the Apple world, we have the technology now to have HealthKit act as a central hub for different apps to serve as both providers and consumers of health data, and that's really powerful.  And to be honest, assuming Microsoft can make good on the grandiose plans they have for their health platform, I suspect this kind of integration is going to become more important, not less...

"Finally, it's well-known that the Fitbit ecosystem does not yet integrate with Apple's HealthKit, and may never. This is a nearsighted decision by Fibtit that we hope the company will change its stance on soon."

Just purchased a Fitbit Charge HR and mixed about keeping it because it does not integrate with Apple's HealthKit.  This was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!  Rather than have so many different tools and Apps, would very much prefer to simplify and consolidate ... Please FitBit and Apple, work out a solution to integrate FitBit as a Source to Apple HealthKit.

Thank you.

I will not upgrade to Charge HR until there will be an integration with HealthKit,

and I hope a lots of other people will to the same!!

I've friend that ask me about my fitbit and starting from now I says "do not buy it !" look for other devices more integrated

I passed my flex along to someone not owning an iPhone.  The Aria will find a similar home.  As for me, April is coming and so is the Apple Watch launch.  It wouldn't have been my first choice had it not been for FitBit's dubious business strategies which seemingly include deceipt.  I don't usually purchase first generation products, but decided to make an exception in this case.

IHMO I think that fitbit managment do not want to share OUR DATA trought the Health Kit,

because the want to continue to have a lock-in with the data that we generate throught ours devices. This is a very stupid approach and as result thei will only loose market share.

Really disappoiting

I just bought my fitbit charge HR even though apple is soon releasing it's iWatch. The reason is that the iWatch is too bulky to have in the exercise that I do. I choose it for its design and for it's functionality. I even read alot of test articles and thouoght I did a wise choise, nowhere it said it didn't sync to healthkit. If I had knew I would have coosen differently. Why can't fitbit realize that they have a window for their products for people who thinks iWatch is too bulky and that window will be larger if they integrate with healthKit.

I must say this is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard of, a company where most of the iOS user base want an integration, and they are not listening. Unfortuantly with this arrogance the company will most likely go bankrupt, when you stop listen to your customers you tend to loose.

OK here we go... What I would expect from an integration with health kit? Well easy all data from my devices in one place. Rith now I am using

* witings smart scale with app.

* runkeeper for running and execice measurment

* myFitnesspal for nutrition recording

And I would like the fitbit data to go along with the other apps that I am using. As software achitecht I don't see why fitbit would like to build point to point integrations with all app vendors for the IOS platform, Android and Windows Phone will most likely come with their own helth solutions soon and will you support point to point integrations with all other health vendors on all platforms it will cost a fortune. When designing software system you try to minimize the point to point integrations and abstract them to a higher level (be enterprise buses, external services and so on) but here we have a company that embrace the antipattern of point to point.  I can oply say interesting..

Hi  kurreburre,

IOS Heathcare is not _another_  vendor it the platform editor,

as Software Architect you could undenstatnd that is not a good idea to re-invent the weel, in the past century when linux was growing up the same approach  was done by some hardware vendors that was not releasing the drivers for the linux kernel, now 20 year later, the fight is moved not on the driver but on the data, Fitbit own all our data in their servers this represent an tremendous amont of money, sharing this data with the IOS device will be open the door to allow users to choose another device and keep their data history in brief Fitbit will lose the proprerty of our data ... that's the reason why they dont want to ingegrate, they business model is changing from an Harware seller into a world wide persoal data owner or something like this ...on day they will sell our traiking data to somebody or maybe there are already doing it...

Connect to the built in Health monitoring on iOS devices. You are one if the only devices that doesn't!

Well here is something I have learned about data.

Jawbone allows you to share your data. It will also. Jawbone will let you use IF (IFTTT) to use any data from another tracker with their ecosystem.

Think about it fitbit. I would never have tried jawbone, but for your treating loyal customers as irrelevant.

Well, i see your point, and it's the same point Fitbit see. But if you have invested loads of money in the best square wheel in the world, it's still gonna be beaten by the round week. And when it comes to data which company do you think have the most data? Whiting whom sync with health kit and gets data from my run keeper and from my fitness pal? It sure as hell not Fitbit. And whom do you think have the highest accuracy in target specific market groups? The company with lots of data or the company with almost no data?
Well I think it's arrogant of Fitbit not allowing me to decide to whom I want to share my data, and I would seriously rethink my strategy.

Hello,

I have had a good read at this thread and I have commented myself on a few occasions to answer your questions and explain what I want as a fitbit customer.

I appreciate that the data we are all happily generating will be generating money for you, as I’m sure your passing it on somehow (e.g 23% of all American have high blood pressure etc)

So is this maybe why you’re so reluctant to open up and share the data your gathering?

This thread has 91 pages and over 2100 comments

You say your Your voices are being heard. We're actively reviewing your responses and providing feedback to our product development team.”

But where is the outcome of this being share with your customers?

The last response I can seen on the main thread is : “10/8: We do not currently have plans to integrate with HealthKit.”

10/8 was quite a while ago now as it’s March 15 and there has been no up date that I can see?

My Question to you would be:

You’ve seen that there is a genuine want for integration with the Health App from your customers but you don’t seem to want to do it. Would you be able to share what your views are? Why you think integration is a bad thing (baring in mind that just about every other manufacturing of similar kit has integrated e.g Withings, Jawbone etc) and what if anything your going to provide which you think serves the requested function better?

Thanks in advance
