Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

Some activities are best tracked with a wrist device while others need a clipped-on device for accuracy. Thank you Fitbit for being so stubborn. Now I have a device that can handle both situations instead of just one, and it integrates with HealthKit. Go sell other people's data. You'll never sell mine again!!

Guys, it is sad to see you all complaining like little kids. Move along, vote with actions, not with posts. There is a new wave of great fitness trackers and smartwatches coming out, choose wisely.

@Karell has hit the nail on the head. Wish I knew this this during the summer when my One died I would not have gotten another.

This is my last post.i have said what is needed to be said. My energy and effort will be now spent on selling my One as ethically as possible and getting something new.

Bye-bye, adiós, ciao, slán, da bo, tschau.

I use multiple health app on my iOS 8 device. Fitbit currently has it's own APIs for apps to share information from the fitbit app but they are inaccurate, from personal experience. Apple Healthkit will allow the information to be shared from one app to another. I think fitbit is missing a major oppurtunity to help customers achieve an overall understanding of how active they are. For example I use a bike app that calculates how many calories I have burned. The app doesnt share that info with fitbit but it does with healthkit. Fitbit should that the healthkit information and be adding it to the total calories burnt.

Integrate with iOS 8 Health "Under Consideration"? This is a no brainer, Fitbit would be better for it. Integrate with the iOS 8 Health on iPhone.

I dont' see why it would be "Under Consideration" at all, it should be done. I have BP, HR, sleeping, and Fitbit being there covers everything I need in one place and I don't have to open each app to see it, just the one app "Health".

I love my Fitbit and this would make me love it more. I know of almost 50 people now that I have told them about my Fitbit and they now have one because of me telling them and showing them about it. It being able to Intergrate with iOS 8 Health is another selling point. Everyone in my family has one too.

As a family that owns 3 fitbits and the aria scale (along with a jawbone UP 24), I'm perplexed that you have not taken the overwhelming direction given you by your user base.

I have a question to you:  why NOT do the healthkit integration?  What are the pros/cons that you are looking at, that could possibly direct you to stall on this?  I understand that it is additional development time that may be scarce right now, but your user base is telling you WHAT they want.  Is it that tough of a decision?

I'm very interested in the business decision making and benefits you could possibly achieve by not developing this requested functionality and thus alienating a signficant portion of your user base.

I would also like to see health kit linked with fitbit and also for fitbit to have a heart rate monitor to sync with also...I have 2 - one for Nike and one for another app...would like to see all be able to sync together.

thank you

Hi, so Fitbit is my health app and physical products of choice.  I had the flex, the force, and still have the scale.  I've talked many of my friends to getting your products too.

I'm very disappointed though to see that Fitbit will not support iOS8's Health kit and I think it's a big missed opportunity on y'alls part.  Even if people want their info to sync back to the health app, a huge percentage of them will probably spend most of their time in your app as it's easier and better looking.  Even if they didn't, your profits aren't driven from ads within the app so it wouldn't affect you as much, because you'd still be making money off your physical products (which are cheaper than the Apple Watch, HUGE plus for y'all.).

But I do think you should support syncing health stats both ways with the health kit.  I want:

-my miles from the Nike running app to sync to your app

-----no offense, but a multipurpose app is nicer to look at all ur data but will never be able to compete with a purpose built app such as nike plus or run keeper

----------plus i have TONS of info already there that i don't want to lose

-i want all my info from your app to sync to health kits so it can be imported to other apps such as these ones that can report to my doctors so as to give them the big picture to my health

-i will probably buy more of your products when they come out because i like them better and can not at all see myself spending $350 for the apple watch. but i still think you should support the apple watch with your app.

-----maybe allow a premium version of your app with the purchase of Fitbit products, and then  a normal version as it is now if no device is used.  and then if using a competing product for data collection, just pay for the premium version that supports syncing data from other devices in healthkit, into the fitbit app. people are very willing to pay small amounts for superior services and apps, especially if it allows them to sync all their info/products into one place.

-i want to be able to track my heart rate

-i like the challenges that are there to make you healthier

-i want to be able to send challenges to my friends, not just compare and message

I will tell you now though, that me, along with MANY other people, above all other features, want to be able to have as much info in one place and one app as possible.  Most of all, they wan't all their expensive physical products to play nice and tie their info into a common place.  That's the MAIN THING that made me such a huge Fitbit supporter.  I could do my weight, sleep, calories, and exercise in one common and simple place.  If you continue to wall yourself off from everything, me and many others will move on to someone that might have a slightly inferior or more expensive product, just for the simplicity that Fitbit used to stand for.  I'm not saying this as a threat, just admitting the truth and begging for your support.

Since Apple released iOS 8 and the new Health Kit I was excited because all of the apps come together and be one. I beleive Fitbit should link with Health Kit, so their sync data will show up in their Health app. I love your dashboard and app, but it would be more interesting if it went to the Health App by itself. I use the Health Kit app more because it shows my information in one place and I bought a Fitbit Flex so it would do that. It's cool to have someting around my wrist but if it has to do their own way, it is hard with my other health apps that track Heart Rate and other health related features. Once Apple Watch comes out next year, I will be getting it because it will be a bold product because it will work together in the same ecosystem. If Fitbit does link with the iPhone and Health Kit I may hold off on the Apple Watch. If it doesn't, then when the Apple Watch comes, it may cause more people to go with it.

For the record, the fact that Fitbit have declared themselves to be a closed system has made me way, way less likely to purchase any of the cool new devices that were announced today. Good luck with that business model.

To echo @Bluejay  I think this is probably going to be my last post as well. They have finally annouced their new line of fitness trackers, and still there is no talk of integration one way or the other. Thousands of comments, over 800 votes and nothing. I find the lack of disclosure and candor to be disturbing and I believe that in the long run, with so many cooperative trackers out there, this is a misstep of the highest level. I'm purchasing a tracker with Healthkit integration once it is widely released in the coming weeks. Good luck to everyone still loyal to fitbit (seriously, I'm not trying to be snarky). And fitbit? I hope that you ultimately make it worth your remaining customer's while to stay.

OK this is really my last post....

If you had Health integration I would plop down the cash for a Charge.  No integration, no new fitbit band for me...

After 68 pages of from what I can see overwhelmingly negative response to non-integration into Healthkit, I would think that you would get the point by now but just for the record....those fancy new items you put out today. I would have bought one, probably the most expensive ones. I like tech toys, but no Healthkit integration? You're losing my business... $50 a year for the upgraded service and the money I would have used on trackers. My money like many others on this forum will go to a company that actually cares about the features I want. Interested to see how hard your stock fall this quarter.

I would LOVE to buy the Fitbit Surge INSTEAD of the apple watch.  I mean a 5 day charge w/ HR...it looks beautiful, and 100 bucks less.  I would drop that cash instantly for your deivce.  Its truly gorgeous. Only one MAJOR FREAKING FLAW...

but it doesn't support healthkit!

I will not buy it for that one reason alone.  The device is beautiful.  GREAT job on it, honestly.  I think this is truly better than the iWatch.  I would buy one for me AND my wife.  Thats 500 bucks you could get from me today in a pre-order.

But you see... the iWatch supports healthkit. Fitbit doesn't. I want a centralized database that my doctors also can log into, to see my health stats.  Mayo Clinic is just the first of many. As much as I want to get the Surge...I just can't. It kills me inside to turn awway from such beautiful tech. It..must..have...healthkit.  Its the deal breaker. Despite how much I want it. 😞

I so would love to pre-order it for my upcoming birthday next month and get my wifes too, just so she can have one.  Hell, I'd consider getting one of the Charge HR for my daughter too.

The new devices look great. It would have been a no-brainer to upgrade my Flex if not for the lack of HealthKit integration. Bummer.

No healthkit.. No purchase...

the new stuff is really cool and I am happy and wish fitbit success but you opted out of my preferred Eco System and waved Microsoft product at me ( health Vault ick)...

I will use my force until I find a product that is compatible with my choices and usage needs.

but honestly if you were going to tell us to jump off a cliff why did you have us waste time voting... Clearly you don't care what we want on this point... And that is what has me angry... It is rude.

I've already expressed my disapointment regarding Fitbit's decision to not integrate it's trackers with Apple's Health app (and to have a Fitbit app update today, without any mention of Health app integration, after sooooo many complaints is a bit of a slap in the face to those of us asking for the feature). I did so not knowing exactly what the new Fitbit trackers coming out would be. Well, now I know. They are beautiful and I'm sure they do a fantastic job. I would be all in for a Charge HR or Surge. Perfect for my lifestyle and fitness needs, EXCEPT . . . As a cancer survivor, I track much more data than Fitbit trackers collect. All of that information is in my Health app. If Fitbit data cannot be inlcuded with all of my other centrally located data, it's virtually of no use to me. Going to have to pass on these and replace my Flex with a Jawbone or Garmin which will integrate with Heath. Shame. Really nice devices.

Comments requesting HealthKit are now being blocked. I'm not surprised, but I am surprised they didn't block them earlier. The more they block, the less it looks like people want HealthKit.

Well another updated Fitbit app without Helath Kit support. Thanks for nothing, Fitbit. It is clear that you do NOT care about your users. You only care about money. I will NOT purchase anything that does not support Health Kit. I see your nice new pretty gadgets. You can keep them because I will not support you. Support goes both ways!
I would like to see the integration of the fitbit flex and the health app, ASAP!
