Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

Please review the new iOS app. Give it one star and mention lack of Healthkit integration. As much as the people like Alison would like to help us, they aren't in a position to do so. I feel bad about the heat they've taken over this. The only way to get Fitbit to listen to us is to target their business.

I really enjoy my Fitbit, I've ditched the Jawbone UP for it exclusively.  With the annoucement of the Surge & Charge HR, I'm considering investing more money into the Fitbit ecosystem, but without HealthKit integration, I'm going to take a wait and see approach and see how the devices mature.  With HealthKit integration, I'd jump on the Charge HR almost immediately, and perhaps the Surge as well.

People are using multiple apps & even devices to collect data about themselves, having to jump between apps to get a nice overview of information is just not user friendly.  The background sync makes it so I have to open the app less, which is great.  I STILL go in to see how my friends are doing, and now for these daily & weekend challenges to see status updates.  I'm not going to stop going into the Fitbit app just because it integrates with HealthKit.

Well you got what you wanted FitBit. It is officially too late for your company as I have sold all my FitBit trackers for all 4 of my family members and moved onto a different company. I won't post which one because I don't want this post to get deleted. As I've posted in this thread before, I am astounded at your companies lack of openness leading up to iOS 8, your reaction to it & your continued ignoring of what your customers want. It is actually laughable at this point. You get to keep all my health data because I don't even have a way to integrate it into my new companies data because of the way you have locked it down. I was an early adopter & recommended your company whenever someone asked what was on my wrist. I will never be back & it is all thanks to a level of extreme ignorance & stuborness I have not seen from a company in quite some time. I look forward to the headlines on Apple sites about your companies bankruptcy. Gone forever, I hope you are happy.

Love my fitbit one, but the fact that it does not integrate will ultimately make me switch to a new tracker that does.  Your developers have a very narrow window that is closing quickly closing inwhich to keep your current customers and all future customers.  Why limit us?  Why not empower us to stay healthy by using technology that is going to make it easier to stay connected?  I have totally ruled out fitbit's new wearables (charge/hr and surge) simply because they doen't integrate.

Hi, I use fitbit every day and so is my family. Including Aria too... I'd hate to lose the history of almost 2 years but not integrating with ihealth may just do that. When finally somebody thinks out of the box and allow one place for complete overview it's real bad if you are not grabbing the opportunity and rather play games with your customers. At the end it's not about "must" to use it - it's about option to.

Please work on it 😉

Surge looks interesting, but even with HealthKit integration (not looking likely) there are open questions on HRM implementation and if Fitbit can overcome limitations we've seen with MobileRun/GPS lack of integration into badges and challenges (and losing active minutes!). Seriously if you can't get GPS right after 4 months (MobileRun launched in late June), why should we believe you'll get it right with Surge?

@NP1 Thanks for sharing your vision for a simplified and integrated Fitbit ecosystem.

@SunsetRunner An interesting proposition! Way to think beyond the current offerings and call out the need for a more diversified and profitable platform. Will definitely pass this idea along.

@dirtygirltoo @Zaaryn @sshadowssin Thanks for taking the time to post!

@Alacaeriel Fitbits are compatible with over 120 devices, including many iOS devices. I'm not sure exactly which article you're referring to, but I don't think it has any bearing on HealthKit integration. As for your other questions, they appear to be rhetorical and you've already answered a few in a subsequent post, so I'd rather not postulate further.

I'm currently a owner of a Flex and I want to buy a scale. I really want to buy an Aria because I Iove the Fitbit environment (except I would like to see Badge integration like Nike Fuelband, but that is an another problem). But like everyone said, without an healthkit integration my through are going to an another scale sell by one of your concurent...

I know as a community manager, you're in frontline and you don't have all the tools you need to make us happy all the time so I don't blame you. But I think that Fitbit must be very transparent and efficient with their community like futur incoming upgrades, what is the state of current things and not only "under consideration" (some things are under consideration for one year...). At least explain us why you don't want to integrate Healthkit now, and why it can negate our Fitbit experience ?

I don't need necessarily a positive answer but at least a precise state of what's comming and when. It's the lack of informations that's annoys me and again it's not directly to the community's managers team 🙂

Thanks for read my post (and sorry for the faults, I'm french)

Is there a day/date function on the Charge HR?  With that information, I would not have to wear my watch and a fitbit.

I really enjoy using FitBit with other apps such as MyFitnessPal and Pact. I would like to see the Apple Health App integrate this data, as I trust my FitBit to accurately count my steps, stairs, etc, but I dont trust my phone as it isnt glued to my body all day. It would be good to see my FitBit stats in that interface.

@chainsaw Yes indeed it does! It will provide the time, step count, heart rate, distance, sleep alarm, calories burned, and floors climbed!

Thanks for your feedback @jessie_240 . I'll make sure that it's being forwarded for review.

I love my Fitbit -- in fact, I'm on my third! However, I'm also very much invested in my iPhone and the iOS platform, and I see great promise in having HealthKit serve as a central hub to all my health data. Therefore, I'd like to see Fiitbit support HealthKit so that I don't need to switch to Jawbone or some other device that does many of the same things but also shares data with HealthKit. Thanks!

@ultaner Great to see you on the forums, and thanks for stepping outside of your comfort zone to post in English. Your post and the sentiment within makes a good deal of sense. While I can't draw out a roadmap, I can let you know that at least part of the reason we haven't commited to integrating thus far is the fact that our development teams have been wrapped up in preparing the platform to support the three new trackers announced today. It has been suggested that building out the integration is easy enough and could be done simultaneously, but anything worth doing is worth doing right, so we've also been waiting to see how other apps are integrating and learn what exactly our users expect out of the integration. I know it's not the definitive or most satisfying answer, but that is where we're at right now.

@geoff2 Thanks for voting, Geoff. Enjoy your evening!

With Healthkit integration, I'd buy a Fitbit immediately. I don't think it'd make me use the Fitbit app any less. I just enjoy the idea of having all of my health (not just the data Fitbit provides) centralized in one easy to read overview. However, if there were no Healthkit integration, I'd buy another product. Please integrate Fitbit with Healthkit.

Interesting. The new version of the iOS app is receiving unfavorable reviews. And every news story I have seen regarding Fitbit today has had negative comments about HealthKit. This doesn't seem to be going well for anyone involved - customers or Fitbit.

Indeed, a lot of formerly loyal Fitbit users and promoters like myself are not happy.

Please integrate with HealthKit. I am using it with MyfitnessPal and would like my sleep and steps on my HealthKit dashboad. I'd like Fitbit to use HealthKit as the source of my weight tracking (so I'm only entering weight data in one place but it is consistant across apps)

hey Fitbit,

Healthkit integration is a must have for international users as we cannot use the food logging with a US food database. Please, reconsider the decision not to support healthkit.

Thanks,

With the new fit bit bands with the heart sensors I would love to see integration between the fitbit app syncing with apples Health app. To be able to open one app and see my steps, distance traveled, stairs climbed, and heart beat all from one place without having to switch between apps, why would I buy an iwatch?

Ok, after all I've read it has become somewhat clear to me that the integration we're asking is not among Fitbit's plans. I was really excited when I read about the new products, and even more so when an update hit the App Store.

'No HealthKit = Huh? Well, OK, guess it won't be long.' And then this.

I'm currently wearing a Force I still had unopened and I was super excited to get one of the new products, even though the old Force I owned fell apart on my wrist last week. Even knowing that Fitbit doesn't sell directly to customers in my country. I was thinking of getting a tracker for my mother's birthday, even, and to pass the Force on to a friend or to my dad when I got a Charge HR.

This lack of actual integration plans bugs me enough to make me reconsider my permanence in the Fitbit ecosystem and the acquisition of new stuff.  Even if not all your customers use HealthKit, it can't possibly hurt to open up the possibility to those of us who want that. Give us that option is all we ask. Don't make it automatic, just let us decide.

So FitBit.  You have announced further devices in FitBit but it is a retrograde step not to incorporate integration with HealthKit and to continue not to do so.  Why on earth would somoebody pay for a new device that is not up to the current wishes of your APPLE customers?  Barmy and it just goes to show the contempt you have for your APPLE customers.  I for one will never buy a FitBit device again even if you do bow to pressure and make integration available.  You have shown us your hand and you will regret the consequences.

Sorry M. Fitbit, my One is dead... and I will not come back here. HealthKit integration is a must have for all iOS users. You want to play alone ? Well... play alone. Jawbone, Withing and Up are doing the same thing than you... with HealthKit integration !

Was excited for the Charge HR, but no Healthkit sync, NO sale!

Im done waiting, my Aria is going to retire and im buying a Withing Scale as soon a good offer comes up. Fitbit is dead to me.

Is anyone else here suddenly getting spam from Microsoft's HealthVault? They're addressing me by name & whining that I haven't 'updated' my records lately … which is because I NEVER CREATED A HEALTHVAULT ACCOUNT!! Yup, you guessed it, they're using the same email address I use to log in here. I wonder, how do you think they got my information? Something to think about … feels like the town bully suddenly knows my private health matters, makes me want to go take a shower. And then another. And Fitbit didn't even leave any money on the nightstand … icky.
