Lock Touchscreen to Clockface

I'm finding over the course of the day and while sleeping my Surge's touchscreen becomes switched from the watch face to one of the other screens. It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you.

Moderator Edit:

The latest Surge firmware update added a function which reverts Surge to its clock screen after 15 seconds. Some users would prefer to continuously view another data tile, such as Steps, Heart Rate, or Distance. This is no longer possible for more than 15 seconds outside of starting an Exercise log.

This existing Feature Request represents a good solution to the issue, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in this new feature to vote or comment in this thread.

I guess this new 15 second functionality was to try to ensure that the watch face is more often there when you look at it.  But like many mine stays on steps or another function when I have gone for a walk that I would not class as an activity as such.  I think the proposal to lock a screen of your choice is a great one, or perhaps have the ability to switch off the 15 second change in the settings.  For me now, it is a pain in the @ss!!

I want to pick the screen please, not have it going back to clock after 15 seconds.

I too don't like this new default to clock. Please bring back the old way. It's primarily a fitness tracker that happens to tell the time, not a watch that happens to track fitness?

I liked the old firmware better. I like to watch my heart rate when I'm lifting. It's more of a pain to keep swiping. Maybe a lock feature as others have suggested.

I'm within the first 45 days of owning my Surge. This new update, which takes the screen back to the clock after 15 seconds, is unsatidfactory. I will return my Surge for a refund if this function is not improved.

Suggestion to FItbit: provide a new firmware update allowing users to double tap Steps screen, HR screen, etc. to keep that display beyond 15 seconds. Or, instead of a double tap option, give us use of the select or action button to do the same.

Fitbit, please reply that you received this request and your response.

Thanks.

@ JohnNIII, when I do wieght, I go to Exercise/Weights.  Then you can keep it on HRM.  I did this before and still am able to do it after the upgrade.

You should be able to keep it on the screen of your choice. I did not buy a watch. I have the time all around me everyday at work and home. It was a big mistake to change this. Before the firmware update you could chose and that is the way it should be. No big deal to swiping back to time if that was what you wanted. This will be constant aggravation for my wife and I until this gets resolved.

I think this has been a good change. Any exercise just start the timer. If anymore changes were made having the ability to lock onto one screen would be an option that I would be still happy with.

Really need this fix - going to workout mode anytime I want to monitor a fitness stat and not the time is not a real option.

I'm 50/50 and can definatley see benifits of this change

I like the option to switch back to clock if im just cheking steps etc throughout the day without having to hit the home button

But......

If Im walking or running etc (and im not tracking as an exercise) I agree we need one of the slelect buttons to be able to lock it on the screen I want to view (usually heartrate or steps) until I'm done

I hate this new feature.  I liked it better the way it was before the upgrade.  I wish I can revert firmwares to get rid of this feature.  But since I can't, I wish I never upgraded.

I hate this new update and clock feature.

I also would like to either go back to the way it was prior to the update or have the lock screen as a secondary option.

I wish I could roll back the update. If this does not change I may be looking for another product, which I really really don't want to do, as I have invested in a surge, one and scales 😞

I loved the ability to keep the screen that I chose to keep on view. I use the HR screen for health reasons and now that it keeps reverting back to the clock it's more difficult and will use up the battery with me having to keep switching it back to the HR screen or constanty having to be recording an activity just so I can keep on eye on it.

If most people prefer it to revert to a clock face then it would be really helpful if this was an option you could choose in the app then you at least have the choice of what you want to see or a double tap, or a button press - anything rather than this.

Please add ability on the surge to stay on HR or other display and not revert to watch automatically. I am not updating to new firmware until this ability is returned

I LOVE the new update that it defaults back to the clock.  When I glance at it 90% of the time that is what I want.  But I discovered this new feature the one time I wanted it to stay on my heart rate.  I agree that a "lock" feature we would great using one of the buttons so when I want it to stay on another screen I can make it,  but any other time it will default back to the time.

Another person in favor of not having the automatic return to the clock, or at least an option to hold on a tile if desired. This watch has 3 buttons that are almost never used except in the setting screen.  My ideal scenario would be:

  • Default revert back to the watch after 15 seconds
  • have one of the buttons on the watch act as a indefinite 'hold' or 'pause' button on non-clock tiles (i.e. I press the button once and it pauses)
  • Revert back to the default 15 second hold if the user swipes to any other tile or presses the button again.

Thanks!

I find this new upgrade for always reverting back to clock screen very annoying. I didn't buy a surge, to use as a watch.( you can buy a wrist watch for a lot less $)! I have A Fib and have to constantly monitor my H B M , while exercising, sometimes it's way too high, and then goes too low. This new upgrade makes this impossible. I phoned customer service, right after I upgraded. They assured me a fix would be done in a few hours. Nothing has been done ,days later . I guess my only solution, will be to return it to vender. Sad, because I really liked the surge, otherwise !

Ok on the main screen I love that it goes back to the watch by default, as long as they add a way for me to lock it.  But I just noticed that when logging a workout it will only show me the clock.  There is no way to make it show the HRM or anything else any more.  That change I don't get at all.

@Aardon They haven't changed the exercise/workout options. You can still swipe left/right to change what is displayed on the bottom line.

I would love to be able to confugre my home screen. I use Heartrate when running and steps throughout the normal day. Oddly, I rarely use the Time.

Please go back to the way it was! There are different times in the day that I want to see a different screen when I look at my Surge.... throughout the day I want to glance down and check my steps... when running I want to check my HR... when sitting at my desk I want to see the time..  it's becoming dangerous to have to "scroll" through screens as I run to check my HR... my focus should be on where I'm going, not which screen is up!  Please please please change it back!

I beginning to think, this upgrade was more of a step backwards. This surge is supposed to be a device, to monitor your different physical activities, and what your body is doing ,while performing these activities.
Somehow the powers that be at fitbit, seem to think the time is the most important measurement we want. Most of us carry a cell phone, they all have a clock!
Like I stated if I wanted a watch, I could have bought for $10.

I like the return to clock face... sometimes.  I would prefer it to be optional.  Locking on a tile sounds great.

Like many others I am happy with the automatic return to the clock brought by the recent update. However, there are times when I would like to lock it on a different screen, so consider this another vote for that functionality to be added. Thank you.

I don't understand why they would take away a feature like this. I could have bought a cheap 2 dollar watch and used the heart rate monitor on my phone if I knew they would have done such a major mistake of taking away this feature. . They need to fix this quickly.
