Lock Touchscreen to Clockface

I'm finding over the course of the day and while sleeping my Surge's touchscreen becomes switched from the watch face to one of the other screens. It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you.

Moderator Edit:

The latest Surge firmware update added a function which reverts Surge to its clock screen after 15 seconds. Some users would prefer to continuously view another data tile, such as Steps, Heart Rate, or Distance. This is no longer possible for more than 15 seconds outside of starting an Exercise log.

This existing Feature Request represents a good solution to the issue, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in this new feature to vote or comment in this thread.

I also agree!
I'm just glad it's resolved with the Ionic... aka Blaze 2.

Gotta give the Blaze the option to return to the clock face automatically.  I feel like I am in the stone age having to manually set my screen back to the clock.  It is so inconvenient to glance down at your wrist for the time with your hands full of coffee or whatnot and see your steps per hour. You actually have to stop, set the coffee down and click back to the clock face. The Charge 2 returns to the clock face automatically.  Why can't the Blaze?  I may return the Blaze as a result of this deficiency.

I'm sure this will never happen. FitBit doesn't care about customer suggestions or requests. But in the highly unlikely event that they added this feature, it's should be something that be turned on and off. I for one would hate it if I left it at the "Today" screen and it kept going back to the clock every time the screen turned off.

A better option would have a small fixed clock at the top right corner of the "Today" screen that didn't scroll with the rest of the information. But that will never happen either.

I definitely agree with adding a lock feature.  I have a Fitbit blaze and during a workout, if I slightly bump my watch, the Fitbit either pauses stops and I find it so frustrating.  Holding down the left button to lock during a workout and then repeating it to unlock would be an incredible feature to add to all of the touchscreen Fitbits.

Fitbit will never fix the problem.

As for the rest of the touchscreen Fitbits and during a workout, having a lock feature would be a game-changer.

For all touchscreen Fitbits - having a lock feature would be a game-changer.

Totally missing it. Missed it since Blaze. Running outside with longsleeved windstopper the sweat inside the sleeve makes the sleeve do all kinds of crazy and annoying things. Very frustrating :S

I have had the ionic for a couple of days, and I use to use the charge hr2 which worked perfect for Kickboxing and thought I would updrage to the ionic, the is a huge flaw in that once in work out mode because of the touch screen, during the workout the watch pauses very frequently, I hope you can set a lock feature which stops the pause and the touch screen from interfering during the work out mode. Please can you address this or it means I will have to return the watch and find other sources.

During some types of exercise and sports, the pause button on the screen gets accidentally pressed on contact.

It would be helpful if there was a setting to switch the pause function to three successive screens taps or a screen swipe.

Or else have a confirmation upon hitting the pause button, to make it less likely that accidental pauses go through.

I wear my ionic on my left wrist and this morning the watch restarted during my weight lifting session. I did squats and while holding the bar, the back of my hand and my forearm pressed against the buttons of the ionic which obviously caused the restart.

Locking the ionic should not only disable touch but also disable the hardware-buttons on the right or left. So unwanted restarts of the watch won't happen as well as unwanted pausing/stops of the activity. Thank you!

This has happened twice. While doing Power Cleans my wrists are bent as far as they can go while holding barbell on chest. My gloves are pushing the buttons and pausing my workout. Today it actually shut my iconic off somehow.

Can you add a feature to lock the buttons down while exercising?

I've accidentally paused my Yoga workout with a bent wrist also.  Not sure what type of user interface mechanism could be used to disable the pause, without making it annoying to pause/end a workout on purpose though.

I found the "Feature Suggestion" forum after posting this. Apparently it's a big problem as I see other people had made similar requests. Some also complained about accidentally pausing by bumping the screen.

There's two use cases that would need to be resolved. How to lock and how to unlock.

Locking:

  • Locking could be automatic when an exercise is started. Automatic locking can be disabled in settings for those that do not like the feature.
  • Locking could be manual. Pressing left and right buttons together can be used to lock

And to unlock:

  • Press the same series of buttons to unlock.
  • Or enter a pin code. It could be the same as the existing feature to unlock the wallet

I'm sure the product manager can come up with other ideas to solve the problem. It's kind of a big problem for me as I believe any device designed to capture data should never lose data.

Pausing is annoying, but the heart rate data is still there. But unfortunately Fitbit does not automatically calculate calories if you manually enter a work out. It has hard coded numbers for various exercises that ignore heart rate and cardio fitness level (another feature request for another time)

But data is lost completely by an accidental shutdown. I don't even know how that happen. Gap in heart rate data show it was off for 20 minutes and I had a full battery.   Obviously a big problem like that makes FitBit worthless for exercising and has me wondering if I should go back and look at Garmin again before my return policy on the Ionic expires. Other than this problem, I love my FitBit.

100% agree!!!
I have been saying this since I got my Blaze; I absolutely love this watch but hate that it stops tracking my work out numerous times while working out. I attend a boxing fitness class and I have the same issue with mine pausing as soon as my gloves go on and I start moving around. A few times it has paused, finished the workout, and moved to a Fitstar workout all before I finished one boxing class. I have noticed that it also stops during my Body Pump class if my wrist turns a little too far back it will hit and pause the workout. The option to lock the screen while tracking your workout would be huge for me!
I am also still not opposed to some sort of trade in program to upgrade my Fitbit each year since I love it so much but at the same time want to keep up with the newer model. An additional fee to do so would not bother me as long as I am not having to pay full price each year for a new Fitbit.

It is completely ridiculous that a device suppoosed to be worn whilst doing weightlifting can accidentally be paused by weightlifting gloves.  Did you actually do any testing of this possibility?

I don't know who was in charge of your testing but they did an awful job here.

I am not being paid to beta test your product.

This is crazy and needs to be rectified as soon as possible.

Get on with it Fitbit and introduce a lock feature.

don't you mean a lock feature? They already have a pause feature. That's
the problem.

oh my gosh yes!   I used my watch today for the first time and the glove pausing is the same as the surge!   I was coming here to write this exact same thing..  as the left button is disabled why cant the other two!   esp when you pause it turns off the screen and you can't unpause and keep the screen on.. =(

Maybe a temporary fix is wearing it a little higher up your wrist while working out. I've done that with my Charge 2 to get an HR reading. I just got my Ionic yesterday, so haven't had time yet to try this function.

I believe that is why they tell you to wear it the inches up your wrist. But that isn't realistic because it slides down when being active.

I bought Blaze last week and during the first workout (boxing) with blaze I noticed after couple of pauses that when the glove touches the screen two times it turn on and eventually gets paused/finished. At kettlebell class the screen turned on by quick view and got paused by random tear of sweat etc.

Disabling quick view and touch screen during the workout should be included especially when the feature is asked for two years already!

Such a simple feature to include, such a pity it doesn't exist.  If you're actually active beyond walking around in the mall not having this feature makes this thing utterly useless as a fitness tracker.   Disappointing to say the least
