Make sleep score optional

Suggested idea is to have the sleep score optional !

We should be able to choose if we have the score or not , I hate feeling like I failed my sleep!

Yes, please! The score gives me no specific information on how to "improve" it unless I pay for the "premium" features. A sneaky way to advertise for your pay services that I don't really appreciate. It is unhelpful and, as many others have pointed out, actually ends up being detrimental. Please give us the option to remove your self advertising.

I've been checking all the wearables and just about all of them include a sleep score. Obviously I cant tell how friendly the number is on the other platforms, but it is there. Fitbit might not ever allow the option to not display, let alone totally remove because it is a part of the wearable eco-system right now.

One thing I don't understand is the belief that the score is there to entice users to get their pay services. For one thing, the pay service gives you a one week free trial so if its good, you might continue on. OTOH, the sleep score is an inherently a terrible metric and even if in some kind of world it was better explained how they came up with the number... in the pay service. I still wouldn't want it. The sleep score is a distraction for many of us.

In any event, my charge 3 is starting to act up. It doesn't readily sync anymore and completely times out for a long, long time when ever there is a update on the watch. I'm look around now for a replacement and I think I am finally okay with a real smartwatch (instead of the bands I have been using since day one) . . . and NO . . . apple is not a consideration.

You should reconsider. Maybe Google ownership will fix the product development problem Fitbit has. Hopefully.

And maybe I’ll come back to Fitbit someday. But my Apple Watch (Nike version) came today. The UI is light years ahead of Fitbit. We’ll see how the day to day functionality goes.

Again - anyone have a good suggestion on how to get my data out of Fitbit and into Apple?

@SunsetRunnerGood luck with the apple watch. One of the guys at my gym got one for Xmas. He likes it but is not thrilled with the daily watch recharge. I generally keep my Fitbit on 24/7. I need my sleep metrics and all the steps I am entitled to.  🙂  so apple is not a consideration.

However, I really did like how the apple watch looked.  But from what I have seen, Samsung and Garmin have equally attractive UI's.  And to be honest the Versa and Ionic UIs don't look too bad.

Please post back here after you put in a few days with the apple watch.

Fittybittyuser,

The Apple Watch 18 hour battery life is a DEAL BREAKER for me. Especially with spending $400. So how do you even sleep with it since needs charging every 18 hours??

My Fitbit battery lasts six DAYS. Not one whole day but SIX. And I have all the data from over 3+ years, and can still see sleep averages easy and all the other great things like steps, stairs, average resting heart rate, active minutes, a zillion face choices etc etc.

Would still prefer sleep AVERAGES be default view but can live happy enough like it is if needed. Everything else I have is Apple. But the watch battery is absolutely sorry and pathetic. Good luck with that.

Totally agree. Was searching for a way to turn it off so that's how I got here. I'm a poor sleeper and shift worker so the average times asleep were much better than some random number. I'm like oh an average sleep score of 75 doesn't seem too bad but wait I only slept for 5hrs. Or sometimes it can show i'm asleep for 9hrs and the score will still be 80. So there's like 5 points difference. I can't use the numbers for anything. I understand it scores the quality of sleep, but I base that on how I feel or look at how much deep sleep I got. Please have this as an option for the people who want to use this feature.

Just checking to see if there has been any progress, mostly out of curiosity since I've switched to an Apple Watch, but I think it is safe to say that the sleep score isn't going anywhere. If you look at all the "feature suggestions" that are shown as "under consideration", there are many that are *years* old with no updates. I believe this is FitBit's way of ghosting...

Sleep score is currently driving me to tears:

I've recently had knee surgery, and am not sleeping well. I wake in the night when meds run low, have to get up, take some more and then like last night, often lie for an hour and a half awake and in pain waiting for meds to kick in before I can go back to sleep.
But I am "rewarded" for this with a score of 81 or 82, which is insulting and is having a detrimental affect on my recovery, and certainly my mental health. How can it be so wrong?

I totally agree with the previous comments. Based upon what criteria is the new fandangled "sleep score" ? I too, do not understand why Fitbit changed to this what should be called "the beyond random **ahem**ic record".

Had Fitbit wanted to give its paid customers sleep data that is essential to our health and well being, a taley of our DEEP SLEEP, nightly and weekly with a record of our running average would have been included in the original app.

If Fitbit were truly up on the science of sleep, and if they truly had experienced techies working for them, they would know that Deep Sleep is the restorative part of the overall sleep cycle. They'd have hired sleep specialists and computer techs that are capable of doing their jobs.

They surely must have the finances to do so.

We should not have to keep updating this daily data on our own. It doesn't seem like rocket science to add this as a primary feature.

So now there are 54 pages of people begging you to turn off this “feature” and all I see is bot replies. My % of each category is pretty much the same every night whether I sleep 4 hours or 9 hours (yes, I know that’s not healthy but life ...), so clearly that’s my individual pattern. I only “earn” a mid 70s grade even with over 8 hours of sleep so what use is that score? And I’m sure as hell not going to buy a premium subscription to learn more non-individualized info. Just roll back the score and give us time slept - it’s still tracking the time so just make it a toggle to display that instead of “score”. And please, no more bot responses - given the price of these things, you must employ SOME humans.

The sleep score causes such anxiety in our house, that my husband has quit using his Fitbit and I am  about to.  Having that score stare me in the face, is a horrible start to my day.  I think I just had a really good night's sleep - and there is a "sleep score" of 71.  No, I had a good night's sleep.  However, the

obvious solution for me at this point is to quit wearing the Fitbit to bed.  As it is, I had to put the Fitbit on my ankle to get anywhere near an accurate "steps" reading, because I don't now, and never have, swung my arms when I walk.  So I was seeing readings of around 2,000 steps.  Once the device went to my ankle, I am regularly getting 10,000 steps or more.  Fitbit certainly can't be noted for accuracy.

Hi @Linda16201, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about here. Keep adding your suggestions!

Just because the others have a sleep score doesn’t mean fit that has to be a sheep and follow. What happened to the Innovacion and customer response that they were known for. They seem to have lost their way Amidst their financial difficulties.

Sleep scores are arbitrary and not correspond to what I value, so I don't want to see them. As such, please either give me the option to remove them or change my default sleep view to something else.

Thanks

When will this be looked at rather than just moved? What a pathetic response (probably automated)

I bought the fitbit to track my sleep - not sleep quality, but the hours I am sleeping because I suffer from insomnia. The inability to see average hours makes it difficult to report to my medical providers- I have had to revert to pen and paper as I did before I purchased the device, it has rendered it useless. The sleep score is not standard data I can report to anyone - if the intent was to make people not feel bad from an hours standpoint it can be the default and there can still be a settings toggle to choose which metric is the primary one per user. For some users for example it might be helpful to even track how many times we wake up each night - another key metric sleep doctors often ask for. This addition makes me feel fitbit did not do it's simplest research on the science of sleep, asserting its own methodology rather than ensuring the device is a tool that more than the layman can use.

It's a very simple fix. The sleep score itself is sometimes useful. I just want more optionality for how the data is aggregated according to my needs. Data tracking and aggregation is the whole reason a wearable has its value - forced display in this way has diminished that significantly.

Sleep score was IMPOSED about 6 months agio. NO ONE wants it or needs it! Why does FitBit persist with this nonsense. "Under Consideration" appears to mean it will never be done. Having previosly purchased a Charge 2 followed by a Versa 2 I will never spend another cent on anything from this bunch of arrogant people. There are plenty iof alternatives out there!

Linda16201

Could not agree more.  I am currently shopping alternatives.  FitBit doesn't seem to "get it".  Nothing is so defeating as to start your day with a miserable sleep score.  I only need to know how long I slept. I certainly don't need the "opinion" of a very unreliable app.

I don't think there has been even one positive comment about the useless meaningless inconsistent sleep score in this thread.

Last week I have 4hr 47 mins sleep which gave me a score of 68, another night was 6 hr 49 mins for 69 points ????

What on earth is the point of such useless information ????

Can anyone explain the reasoning for the inconsistent points ????

How much longer is this thread going to be 'under consideration' ?????

Will anyone from fitbit ever respond ????????????????

Even crazier - last night was 4 hours 53 mins for just 50 points. How on earth do they get this when a few days ago I had 6 minutes less sleep and got 68 points ????????

The moderators must read this thread occasionally as I have had many posts removed for no reason, and they move several posts into this thread - so why can't the moderators pass it on to someone that can actually do something ??????????????????????????

Agree that Sleep Score is useless information and if for some reason your heartbeat is not consistently recording you get no score and it looks like you didn’t sleep at all!! Useless.
