Rowing/Stationary Rowing Machine Exercise Shortcut

Considering most of the important cardio equipment is represented in the Exercise list, I think it's more than justifiable to add a stationary rowing machine to the list. Almost every gym in America contains at least one or more Concept 2 rower as it is a total body and low impact method of Cardio. It's one of my favorites and I'm sure I am not the only user that is a bit disappointed that is not represented.

Any update on this? Recently purchased a charge 2 and am thinking of returning b/c it can’t track rowing

I agree both rowing and stationary rowing should be new exercises

I use "Workout" to log rowing - I think that most of the frustration with the lack of a rowing option would disappear if Fitbit simply allowed the users to rename "Workout" to "Rowing" - in terms of sensing the activity it should be quite simple as the Charge2 accelerometer signal for rowing should be unique to the rowing.

I know the community has been asking for this for quite some time, but I thought I'd weigh in just the same.  I use a Concept 2, and I really wish there was a specific workout for this popular machine and activity.

I too would like to see a rowing machine activity on my Ionic. Currently using a Concept 2 w/ PM 5.

Would be nice to have the rowing app for the concept 2 rowing machine, the Garmin Vivoactive 3 has the indoor rowing and outdoor rowing app so I'm not sure why it's so difficult to add some fitness apps instead of Starbuck apps which are useless, beside this is suppose to be a fitness watch so I would think they would concentrate on fitness apps instead of stupid stuff.

Yeah this is a pain. I linked my Concept2 Logbook to fitbit but it only transferred the workout on the first day. I tried re-authorizing it and doing another workout today but still nothing. And the calories are way off. I should just have bought a chest belt and not wasted my time on a Fitbit, since rowing is basically my main workout.

I hear you, my main exercise is also rowing on the concept 2, I have the live rowing app on my iPhone but it would be nice to also have the app on my Ionic, I set my Ionic on the workout mode but It's not really working it monitors my heart rate but it also adds steps and the calories are also off, I've tested the Garmin Vivoactive 3 and it worked well no step counting and my strokes were the same as the Concept 2, now I'm considering the Garmin Fenix 3 HR which as all apps of Vivoactive 3.

I'm not sure why Fitbit is not concentrating on more fitness based apps since it's a fitness watch and brand, they have all these stupid useless apps that are not geared to fitness, you would think they would put all their efforts into the fitness apps to at least find themselves a niche in the wearables. They may need a new marketing & R&D department. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I'd love to use liverowing, hopefully android is available soon. I actually just initiated a return for my Charge 2, going to try something else. I will look into those Garmin ones- seem to be a bit more pricey than the fitbit though. Might just settle for a chest monitor for now.

This is badly needed.  Hard to believe that there aren't enough fitbit users using some type of rower to make this be a priority.  Concept 2 has an awesome interface and the newer PM5 display is Bluetooth capable.

Fitbit did not put Rowing as a workout mode, they just tell us to go edit our workout after and rename it to rowing, this is lame and silly, just put the app on the watch and be done with it. I'm going to a Garmin Fenix, they have the rowing and the golf app on their watch, I'm not sure why I bought the Ionic, I looked at some of the apps that we're available for the watch and golf was on those advertising, then I purchase the watch for $400.00 and no golf app, no rowing app, very disappointed with this company. I guess my wife will use the watch for a very expensive step counter.

Another vote for stationary rowing.  I just upgraded from a Charge HR to a Blaze and I'm quite disappointed (and surprised!!) that it isn't on the list.

I use a water rower and would like it on my charge 2

Add rowing machine to list of activities. I use rowing machine a lot and I can never accurately capture my workout since it's not on the list of activities Fitbit trackers capture. I just go with selecting Workout but it doesn't capture it properly.

WaterRower's SMARTROW would be an ideal bluetooth link to track this.  With rowing machines being one of the top 4 fitness machines, one would think there's a solution out there.

I just received my Ionic this very day... I was excited to get it. I missed the FedEx delivery which needed a signature. I contacted FedEx and was able to meet up with the driver and get my package. Now it's set up and I'm ready to row on my machine at home (super low tech no functioning tracking built into the machine, yet works well for a workout without start). I purchased it with the thought that rowing was a standard exercise, and that I would at least be able to find an app that had it as an optional exercise.  Really disappointed to find out that $300.00 (plus overnight via FedEx) for a new device such a this is not smart enough to have some basic calculations for rowing without having to customize the data after I complete the workout via editing it!

I may return it and purchase something that includes this feature.

I expected to have some limits door to the newness of the app store, and was betting on the future of development of apps and the app store, yet after reading the many years of comments regarding this request, am having serious second thoughts! My other primary favorite forms of exercise are martial arts based (Jiu Jitsu, Must Thai, etc) and can only assume that I will have similar issues if I want to track anything while doing those actives.

For this piece I could have purchased pretty much any device.

Had the same experience with the Fitbit, wife got the ionic, and I purchased a Garmin Fenix for rowing and golf, I've also tried the Vivoactive 3 and it also has the app for rowing and golf, not sure why the Ionic did not focus on more fitness apps when this watch was released, this could of been a great product instead it's a flop.

I would in fact recommend returning it. The developers have wholeheartedly
ignored this thread.

I would agree with your proposal, I have stopped using my Fitbit as it does not provide support for rowers. The developers are obviously ignoring the feedback from users, more focussed on commercial marketing than supporting users. Once they have your money etc etc.

I would really like to see rowing added to the Fitbit (all models)

it is the most complete body exercise that anyone could do, from legs, core, arms, back and chest

i use the same machine the Olympic teams uses

the Fitbit measures arm movements, so I reallly can’t understand haven’t made this on any of the fitbits, not even their latest models

what does it take for Fitbit to make this exercise on all their fitbits

there are plenty of people asking for it

Derrick241

It’s been over 3 years (could be even longer) since people have asked for rowing to be included on any Fitbit

Does anyone at Fitbit ever read what people are asking for?

Fitbit are more than likely to include the latest fad exercise than one that is proven to work

i know that it has been suggested that it can be entered manually, but that is not what I spent 300 quid on an ionic for

i expected it to be updated, not with the latest fad exercise

Just read what various moderators have posted

they aren’t even going to consider rowing in the fitbit

they are punching themselves in the face with comments like that

every other fitness watch has it, not Fitbit though, they what we want and it ain’t rowing, bunch of t***s

maybe we should send these bloody things back, 300 quid for something I hoped it would do, but turns out a backer of ***t

you can have mine back, I’ll buy something cheaper and does what I want it to do
