Rowing/Stationary Rowing Machine Exercise Shortcut

Considering most of the important cardio equipment is represented in the Exercise list, I think it's more than justifiable to add a stationary rowing machine to the list. Almost every gym in America contains at least one or more Concept 2 rower as it is a total body and low impact method of Cardio. It's one of my favorites and I'm sure I am not the only user that is a bit disappointed that is not represented.

Yes please... let me add my vote for a native rowing/rowing machine option on the Versa.

I would really like to see rowing added to the Fitbit (all models)

it is the most complete body exercise that anyone could do, from legs, core, arms, back and chest

i use the same machine the Olympic teams uses

the Fitbit measures arm movements, so I reallly can’t understand haven’t made this on any of the fitbits, not even their latest models

what does it take for Fitbit to make this exercise on all their fitbits

there are plenty of people asking for it

Taking up rowing, so thought I would finally upgrade from my ChargeHR... but looks like even the fanciest fitbit can’t track rowing still? Crazy. Why not? If the competition already can, then it’s silly that fitbit would willingly fall behind.

This is a 25-page-long thread full of disappointed customers so I guess I’m not alone.

You surely are not alone!!! Especially with rowing become more and more
popular!!! Way to not stay ahead of the curve and just blame app
developers Fitbit..... Guess taking the lead is not your favorite suit
after all.

The indoor rowing machine is one of the most comprehensive fitness machines in the gym. It torches calories, provides an all over body workout of every muscle group, hugely improves cardiovascular fitness, and is low impact. I recently used the indoor rowing machine to lose two stone and 6% body fat.

It surprises me that you don’t have a shortcut for it. By adding this shortcut you would improve the calorie tracking of using this equipment, make life easier for Fitbit users, and also promote this machine to other people. Please add an indoor rowing machine shortcut to Fitbit Ionic!

Thanks 🙂

You need to add rowing as a recognised activity. Next to the treadmill and bikes its the most common machine in gyms! You've used it in adverts but don't track it?

I vote YES for indoor rowing exercise or synchronization too!

We need to be easily and efficiently track a rowing workout!!! Every gym has one and if you are into interval,  HIIT or XFit workouts you do not have time to stop and log each rowing leg before going again.

This seems so basic?!!! It is an absolute must and I along with many others are deeply disappointed.

A Rowing workout in the FitBit Coach app would actually make me pay for Premium.

But as it stands I have knee injury and cannot so many of the cardio based workouts you have there - the most effective use of my time is on the rower.

Rowers are heavily used by those who are injured and should be supported by the FitBit product and community.

I have been waiting and watching for over a year for Fitbit to add indoor and outdoor rowing to their devices.

I have recently upgraded from Surge to Ionic and now even my Spinning option has gone away!

Logging rowing as “bike” to get the GPS record and logging indoor rowing (Concept 2) and Spinning as “workout” maybe captures my time and calories but is a very poor substitute - on an expensive tracker.

Does anyone at Fitbit really pay attention to these “community” posts?

@Nigewatt, Fitbit probably has a limit number and we rowers are way below that number. Even with 1.000 votes 🙂 So, be sure they'll not develop a solution for us. I'm inloved with Fitbit Versa but I'm moving to Apple watch where I can use 3rd party app RowingCoach https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/rowingcoach/id1202290980?platform=appleWatch&preserveScrollPosition=...

Please add rowing to shortcuts on the versa

Over three years your customers have been asking for rowing support.

At what point do you decide that it is important enough to put some effort in to supply an obvious need.

I vote YES for indoor rowing exercise or synchronization too!

YES it really annoys me to spend an age rowing and then find that I'm still not getting to my 10000 step target. This is really needed
Because of this even though my present Fitbit has taken a bashing and needs replacing I might not get another unless this comes along

How do I choose Spinning on my Ionic? On my Surge there was an option for Spinning (as well as outdoor cycling, running and swimming).

I too will base my decision on whether or not to purchase the new Charge 3 on availability of a shortcut to track rowing machine workouts - it's taken way too long for this to be supported by Fitbit.

Agree with the others here on this long-running omission.

I have a Versa, but looks as though owners of other devices are very interested too.

Here's hoping easy way to log rowing machine workouts is forthcoming soon.

Thanks!

Hi

This may have been discussed before as I didn't read all 26 pages of this thread, but the newer Concenpt2 rowers have connectivity for apps like ErgData to sync workout data.  Using this kind of integration would be amazing as the erg PM has much more accurate data than simply tracking wrist motion does.  And this also applies to HR monitoring as I find my Versa HR is much different than my chest strap linked to the PM.  I assume this is because my arms are moving making HR tracking challenging.  Both Concept2 and Fitbit have SDKs so are there and rowing SW devs out there?  We could probably get something going on Kickstarter.

For the wrist based HR monitoring whilst on the erg, try moving it further up your wrist. I use a Charge 2 - if I leave it in my usual, all day spot, the HR monitoring is extremely inconsistent, but if I move it further up my wrist (about an inch,) it's actually very good.

I DEFINITELY wish there was some way the PM5, Fitbit and Concept2 logbook could somehow communicate.

link the pm5 to your phone or load the data through usb to your logbook and it will send the info across to the fitbit app. Been doing it for 15 months, all I have to do is use the concept calorie calculator and adjust the calories to my weight, if you put the fitbit in excercise mode if then delete the workout it will show the heart rate data aswell https://log.concept2.com/blog/integrating-with-other-platforms

Oh wow thanks - I use the Concept2 Logbook but never caught that feature!

I’m a rower and also use a concept 2 indoor rower. It would be brilliant if fitbit would include rowing either on water or indoor with the latter syncing with concept2 PM5 computer or their app or liverower.

Hey @Wetoded.

I will be merging this suggestion to the one about stationary rowing. Be sure to vote for the access app during exercising suggestion if you have the time.

Thanks for participating!

I see the matter of adding the rowing machine to the list of exercises has been around for several years but still no tangible progress. This is very poor considering how popular the rower is worldwide. What is the best option from the existing choices....workout? What is happening regarding this longstanding issue.
