Rowing/Stationary Rowing Machine Exercise Shortcut

Considering most of the important cardio equipment is represented in the Exercise list, I think it's more than justifiable to add a stationary rowing machine to the list. Almost every gym in America contains at least one or more Concept 2 rower as it is a total body and low impact method of Cardio. It's one of my favorites and I'm sure I am not the only user that is a bit disappointed that is not represented.

Please, why has this not been done yet?

you have YOGA....but not rowing....come on.

(nothing against YOGA, but rowing should have been a recognized exercise long before yoga.. sheesh)

Hi @key_gb, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about here: Stationary Rowing Machine Exercise Shortcut. Keep adding your suggestions!

I would love to see a rowing interface, of any kind.  Rowing is an exercise that is low impact and good for everyone.  I'm currently using elliptical to track my rowing - but its not the same thing

I  row almost every day on my Concept2 Rower.  I also use a recumbent bike for 50 minutes every day.  Please consider adding these to the list of exercises soon for the Fitbit Charge 3 for this retired guy (former soccer player without the good knees) that really has a passion for fitness.

I hear you! I sill soon be 80 and I find rowing has been my exercise of choice. I have a total hip and knee replacement, and another knee that will soon be artificial. I recently had my aerotic valve replaced and need cardio exercise and rowing has been my best option for all around fitness. Sure would be nice if I could get the results on my Fitbit Charge 3.

I don't understand why this is taking more than 4 years to implement. Its really simple just clone the generic "workout" as indoor rower or stationary bike etc by changing the name. After that if specific things like strokes instead of steps is desired that can be worked on more slowly but it shouldn't be that complicated to do and please make it capable of exporting to Strava and TCX file as well without GPS data. These things are basic. Next time I buy I'll have to seriously consider whether to go with another fitbit product since the support just doesn't seem to be there.

Agreed. Please add rowing machine.

It is really time to get this done. Every day I end up using Elliptical for my Concept 3 rowing time (2000 meters fast) and Spinning for my recumbent bike time (50 minutes and 16 miles). Just does not make sense why these key exercises are not already included.  Fix this NOW!

Sorry typo.  Concept 2!

I recently upgraded from a Charge 2 to a Charge 3 and have to track the exercise using a different category and amend it in the app afterwards. However the Charge 3 does not allow you to edit the distance once it has been changed to a rowing machine (Charge 2 was perfectly fine). I really need the facility to log from my watch a rowing activity.

Last week I did the update to the new dashboard look for Fitbit.  I am disappointed that rowing is still not an exercise option.

I only own a rowing machine. If I knew Fitbit couldn't track it but Garmin can I would have bought a Garmin. My wife and I just bought this week Inspira HR's. Please add a rowing app.

I wish I would have bought a Garmin instead of a Fitbit Charge 3. I also
have a rowing machine and not pleased that l can't keep track of my
sessions.

I have been a loyal FitBit user for years, but also an avid Concept 2 rower.  At the time I started using a FitBit I was unaware of the lack of indoor rowing support.  On the community pages, the addition of rowing, which is available in other devices, has not been incorporated since the request was initially entered in January 2015.  I an an active duty US Navy sailor and the rowing machine is being added to the Navy Physical Readiness Testing Program, exacerbating my desire for a rowing mode on my FitBit (Charge 3 Special Edition).

FitBit, I will state it here as clearly as I can.  You have until the end of the year to add rowing to your exercise options or you will lose me as a customer and I will instead turn to Garmin (who have had rowing for years.)  You will also lose other US Navy personnel who choose to turn to rowing for execise and find no FitBit support for it.  This is your last chance.

Hi @David_D_USN, thanks for explaining why you would like to have an option for indoor rowing in the exercise app. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can check this other idea here. Keep adding your suggestions!

Rather than just moving messages around, why doesn't Fitbit act on this
suggestion that has been floating around for years??

Hi - please kindly add Concept2 to the exercises, with a kind of realistic kcal estimate or at least suggest some viable other general category that recognises and approximates the workout well - should a fully fletched link between Fitbit & Concept2 be impossible.

Please also listen to your customers who are highlighting gap this for at least four years. I have a hunch, there’d be loud sheering on and fireworks if you move from ‘considering’ to actually ‘putting into action’.... 🙂

thank you and all the best,

New Fitbit - old Concept2 - User

I cannot even start to count the amount of emails I have seen about this topic. I’m assuming at this point they will never make an update.

Post created in 2015... here we are in 2019 & still no rowing shortcut for activities. Sure, I can add it manually... but holy heck people have been asking for this for over 4 years now.

I too row now at my Gym. They just remodeled & added 4 indoor rowing machines. Great low impact, not hard on my ankles or knees. I, like the other 34 PAGES here on this ask, would like to have rowing as a shortcut so I can select it on my Fitbit. (charge 3)

Fitbit has had rowing “Under Consideration” since 2015. Is it asking too much for an explanation why this hasn’t been done? I see all kinds of suggestions about clock faces and color schemes but something that actually would add functionality there’s only crickets. C’mon Fitbit - tell us WHY you can’t or won’t add rowing.

I threw in the towel and bought a Samsung Galaxy Watch. It DOES have rowing as an activity.

I would love to see ergometer/rowing included as an exercise. I use a Lifecore machine at home

rowingirl you can link the concept 2 online logbook to fitbit, this automatically calculates the calorie burn to your weight when sending the data to fitbit, it will not however carry any heart rate data, I tend to put the fitbit into workout mode and delete this exercise once I have finished, then my heart rate will show on the rowing exercise on my fitbit. Its a long workout around and I do end up with about 500 steps added to my daily step count if I do an hours rowing.
