They have added Strava integration which will track cycling metrics... also the surge should be getting the cycling mode soon, I believe that it is already being implemented in an update overseas. You can compare alot of different things in Strava, so that may interest you.
But to your main point: there is no standard conversion of cycling revolutions to steps. The difficulty of revolution depends on the gear of the bike so you can't simply convert the two and add them to your actual steps. Steps are steps... I would recommend that you just focus on getting as many steps as possible and the extra cycling activity is just a bonus!
Your right that it would be fun to compare by calories... but height, age, and gender all affect those calculations. So even a very active female might not burn more calories than a very large sendentary young male.
Minutes active would be a good comparison, I'm surprised they don't let you see that.
Maybe stop trying to compare yourself to others and shoot for beating your own personal records.
My fitbit and strava accounts don't stay linked. Everytime I want to flip one activity to the other app I have to re-register for this as if I've never done it before. A little frustrating
I have several friends that are considering purchasing the Fitbit Charge HR; however, their main complaint is a lack of street / mountain bike options for tracking exercise. Are there any short term plans to integrate this functionality into the mobile app?
This is not marked as solved? This is under the status New. Where did you see it is solved? Do you know how to elevate this level to get moderator review?
Yes please add the Bike as an option in Charge HR app, so I can effecticvely track my rides.
It is very frustrating - the weather is great and I want to get the most from my Fitbit.
I also want to buy a Charge HR for my wife, but she only bikes for excercise making the HR a bit useless - The Surge is way to big for her little wrists!
I have tried linking my Strava account to Fitbit as a workaround, but the sync from Strava to Fitbit doesn't seem to work on my Android phone and doesn't record my HR.
I am really looking forward for anykind of solution for this. The simplest implementation that would benefit me* would be that the "exercise mode" of Charge HR, which is triggered by a long button press, would turn off step and floor tracking. This would of course have to be configurable, it might be that someone actually uses the current exercise mode.
I do all my running/cycling/sports tracking by using my mobile phone (GPS) and Endomondo. Charge HR is great for tracking my heart rate almost 24/7, and activity overall when I walk/lift weights etc. -- especially everything where GPS is not that useful.
Without any support for tracking (or disabling tracking while) bicycling the use of Charge HR is currently severly impaired for anyone who cycles. During cycling, a lot of steps are miscalculated, and for me, that can amount to anywhere from 7000 to 15000 miscalculated "steps", which of course completely screws up the achievement and daily goal system.
I would LOVE to have this option for the Charge HR! I'm currently 6 months post hip operation and am using the Charge HR. I can't actually run yet, and walking hurts sometimes, so the only exercise I can do is cycling. It would be so nice to have that as an option instead of only walking, hiking, and running.
There may be a need to distinguish between mountain biking and street cycling. The level of effort can be different based on environmental conditions so it is likely to affect biometrics as well. Thoughts?
As introduced in Surge, it would be great if outdoor biking mode can be introduced to Charge HR as well. With this feauture we will be able to track biking with GPS and maps and also see the biking distance, calories burned etc. It can be included as an exercise option along with run, walk hike features.
Thats a good suggestion, I am not sure what mode was introduced in Surge to support this feature? I agree that level of effort for mountain biking and street biking is different and needs to be accounted differently.
Yes, that is a great idea. Not having it is very dissapointing, especially when the technical requirements are virtually idnetical to the Run exercise. I am logging my bike rides as runs, so please add this capability!
This is the work around I use while biking. I just turn on the work out mode in fitbit by using the button on the device, and then use strava to calculate all the distance, maps, gps etc. This has been working out quite well for now. If Fitbit incorporates this requested feature, then we do not need this work around.
