Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

With diabetes on the rise and with so many diabetics working to control blood sugar, for us, carbs are very important since they don't metabolize right for us. It would be great to be able to log carbs. Maybe it could be added as an option.

Agreed!! I am currently trying out a flex that my brother does not use before buying a charge hr. I like the band and the app, but what has held me back is the lack of micro and macro data on the mobile app. The band I currently use shows this info on the app.

Hello Fitbit folks,

I have been using my fitbit account and Charge HR for a couple of months now and have so far found them to be very useful, highly motivational and easy to use. Well done, and thank you!

I have a few quick suggestions for features that would make it even better from my perspective, you have probably heard them before, but I don't want to assume that!

I would find it helpful if, on the web login, under the Log>Food Log>Daily Totals section, the recommended daily allowances for each total could also be displayed for easy comparison. It would be great if these totals could also be displayed in the smartphone app as well to make it easier to see on the go.

At the moment I use another app to see the nutritional RDAs (including iron, potassium, calcium and vitamins) and add the comparison as a note for each day - but it would be really useful and save me time if I didn't need the workaround.

It would also be useful to have a caffiene tracker tile on the Dashboard (I know this has been suggested before but want to add my voice in favour).

Many thanks,

Sam

I would LOVE to be able to track macros within the app and also to be able to set goals for those (for example, getting XX grams of protein/fiber every day, etc.)

I'd love to see net carbs tracked as well. I have type one diabetes and calculate net carbs for proper insulin dosage before each meal. It would be a huge improvement for me if I could use Fitbit for this rather than using two seperate apps and entering the data twice.

I would also like to see macronutrient tracking implemented in the mobile app. As a person with diabetes, carb counting (net card counting, actually), is a very important part of managing the condition. I love that I can see these totals on the dashboard on the web, but need this functionality on the mobiule app. I'm currently using two apps and have to enter each meal twice.

1000% agree with the OP.

In order to track macros on my phone I have to use MyFitnessPal and FitBit.   That makes me cry.   So please add this facility to the FitBit app, so I can have only one app on my phone and save my poor eyes.

Thanks

Hey there...would love if Fitbit would allow me to see my net carb intake (carbs-fiber=net carbs). Many of us are low-carbers or Keto dieters, so this hack would be so helpful when looking at our macros. Thnx.

Seeing as how there's a calorie tracker, I was wondering if it could be re-worked to show the carb count on foods as well. This way I don't have to guess or download another app.

A carb tracker would be brilliant and would really help with my diabetes

It would also help me moniter my carb intake more closely. I usually try to keep it under 50-60 grams a day because I still have unwanted fat and I need my body to metabolize it more.

Hey Fitbit community. I've been an avid Fitbit user for over a year now and through the numerous app updates, there are still things on the app that I am missing and wish it could have. Here are some missing elements to things that should be added to the app:

1) the ability to add decimals when inputting grams for fats and stuff such as 2.5g when adding a "custom food" in the specified view. Users cannot do that right now.

2) tablespoons "tbsp" is not an option for serving size when adding a "custom food". There is everything else as a possible option, but tbsp is missing

Finally, I wanted to add the idea of providing users with a visual of their macronutrients. To me, the idea of inputting the grams of things on custom foods didnt serve a purpose as that information was not really being use. This brought me to the idea of having a pie chart for macros to provide users with a visual and percentage of the day for consumption of fats, carbs, and proteins. Users can see where the majority of their nutrients are coming from and they can then learn how to change their diet macros in order to help them lose weight by sticking to set carb, fat, and protein grams for each day. The same technology can be used as the food log in order to show under, on, or over budget.

I think this pie chart idea would be a great help to improve the Fitbit community. Please help me vote for this and let's make it happen.

The first 2 suggestions I made are fixes to the app to make it better and more accessible, and fill a need that was missing. These suggestions/fixes would be a great addition as well so please help vote for them as well.

Let's do what we can to make Fitbit the best app.

If you look at each day of your food log you see the things you opt to track (calories, carbs, protein, etc.).  I use that.  However, as a newly diagnosed diabetic, I can see the serious usefulness of being able to have tile and link that shows carbs, allows you to input your blood glucose levels and list pre-meal or post-meal for each of those, as well as a log for Ketone levels.  It may not make Fitbit a lot of money, but it could actually save lives.  I would be willing to pay a yearly fee for this feature.  Just my humble opinion, Fitbit!

Good idea, especially from the health perspective.

This is a great idea but why stop there, how great would it be if Fitbit had sugar, carb, protein, and all kinds of nutrient tracking options.

Bird989, you can log in on your computer and see Carbs, Protein, Sodium, Fat, etc.  But it no longer is an option to select what you see tracked.  Maybe it never was.  Maybe I am thinking about My Fitness Pal...  LOL!  Still, if you click on your food tile on your dashboard, and scroll down a little you will see those totals for foods logged for the day you are looking at (including your current day.  Can't see those on my iPhone app, though.  Have to log in from a computer.  Hope this helps!

Would love a carb tracker... option a vitamin K as well.... more a consistent throughout a week as to any of vitamin k . Why k? It's not a vitamin it is a life risk issue when one is on blood thinner, critical is how much k we induce.

Hi, it would be great if you could add macros and nutritional information for when we log in our food, for many people it is essential for them to track these things. Though we know this is accessible with My Fitness Pal, it would be more convenient to have this feature on the Fitbit app itself

I agree we are very disappointed that Fitbit does not have this feature ! This should be 1st up on list of things to improve on Fitbit ! Most have Nutrional values in app! I will be first to be up front about it , if Fitbit does not come with this soon I will be leaving Fitbit community.

Little disappointed in the lack of this simple feature.... I have used and have on my phone three apps that do have this feature.....maybe I will return my Fitbit and move to another device that has an app that will do what all others have
