Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

I would want to see more than just macro nutrients on the app. The ability to see all sorts of info like sugar, sodium, different types of saturated fats.

My fitness pal has that feature and I hate to have to use the two apps consecutively just because of that visibility.

Please add this feature.

The data is already collected and synced to the fitbit account - there just needs to be an abstraction of the existing goals (Calories, water) that can be applied to macro or micronutrients. The same tracking visualizations can be used for water intake as protein intake; water goals as protein goals. Calories limits to sugar/carb limits. These are valuable not only for overall health but KEY for people with special medical needs like diabetics and those with other metabolic or GI conditions. This feature has been on request for two years; if you're not going to add it to the app yourself, Fitbit, then help the community with an API that would allow us to do it ourselves.

Sincerely,

A software engineer trying to access the data you have already collected.

Hi!

I have used many calorie trackers and I find the Fitbit app is less than stellar. My first suggestion would be to break looged food down into macros (carbs, fat, protein.) If I'm going to take the time to log my food, I would like to get more data from such efforts. As well, if I am adding a particular meal regularly, say, every morning I have half an avocado, an egg, and some yogurt; when I add avocado if it came up with, "recently added with...." and listed the egg and yogurt, it would streamline the process and cut down on senseless searching.

I really like the calories in versus calories out graph. These are a few things that I have felt, would make the interface that much better.

Thanks!

While we wait for Fibit to not incorporate this feature I suggest you guys to use this app.

https://www.joyapp.com/

It has a food database, micro breakdown, and a recipe creator.

The only thing that I dont like its that you have a free month trial then after that its $2 a month.

I think it way better than MFP sincer they are trying to charge $50 yearly

Would be awesome to know percent of carbs, fat, protein in app. Myfitnesspal does not always synch correct information.

Please add calorie macro percentages, I.e. Protein/carb/fat %, to the app and/or tiles. The only place I can get it is from the desktop Log Food page.

I have spent hours trying to find an app that will show me my fats, proteins, and carbs in a visual way - some show in graphs and bars, which are very helpful! However, I want to keep using FitBit to track my food, steps, Etc. I think this feature would really help us take health to the next level!

Yes! Nutrition is more than just calories! I'd love to be able to ensure I'm hitting my macro goals by referring to the fitbit app instead of having to login to the web browser.

must must must!!!! i too miss the nutrtional info totals that myfitnesspal has.

My husband and i both switched from another tracker system to the fitbit system and was so upset to see that the app for fitbit doesnt track your allotment of dialy intake of the nutrition catagories, like sugars, sodium, etc..... of which we have a need to track.

I really wanted to be able to use just one single app and now for more accurate data i have to log my food intake in the fitbit app AND the myfitnesspal app. Such a bummer and one of the main reasons we switched from our other tracker system.

As someone who uses fitbit to track my nutrition, it would be super helpful to be able to see the breakdown of fat/carbs/protein on mobile. And to be able to see a closer breakdown of how many calories I ate each day over a week or month on both mobile and desktop. Nutrition is such a big part of fitness, any more info would be so helpful!

Please add macros into the app, essential. Recommending MyFitnessPal as a workaround is a very poor response.

I don't know why you wouldn't implement this feature. It's so essential and easy, there's no reason not to do it, yet it's taking aaaaggeeess. It's on the first page of top liked feature requests, so when is this coming?

On the Fitbit website there are detailed macros, but on the mobile app there isn't. I have been trying myfitnesspal, but due to sync issues it is much more of a hassle than what it's worth for me. Anyway. I would love to see a new tile titled "nutrition" showing the amount of fat, carbs, and protein ingested over the day. The pie chart myfitnesspal has is awesome and you can even set goals. I would love to see this in the Fitbit App so I don't have to use another. Thank you.

Very disappointing that the app doesn't allow tracking of macros despite the fact it stores the calorie content of thousands of foods. Being able to track the protein, carb and fat amounts each day along with % would be ideal. I'm surprised the designers and developers coming up with the software didn't think of that. Obvious innit?

I agree with many of the above posts that we need some sort of macro counter on the app. I know that there is that capability if you buy the premium on the computer dashboard, which I would be willing to pay for if only I could use those premium function on the app as well.

FitBit needs to add the ability to see/track NET CARBS in the food panes.  Please also update the Add Nutrition Information for food additions to include Sugar Alcohols so that they can be calculated out to more acurately reflect true Net Carbs.  Those of us with Diabetes have to keep close tabs on our carb intake more so than calories.  I use my FitBit to make sure that I am getting proper exercise AND to keep track of my diet (especially net carbs).  There should be enough medical reasons, and users interested, for FitBit to jump at the chance to help us better track our net carbs.  There are many diets out there (such as Atkins) that are low carb.  This could be beneficial to many FitBit users, possibly even attracting new ones.

In case some users need to include Sugar Alcohols, perhaps FitBit could at least add Sugar Alcohols to the "Add Nutritional Information" template and possibly add "Sugar Alcohols" to the "Daily Totals" pane alongside "Total Carbs" and
"Net Carbs" calculated without considering Sugar Alcohols. If "Sugar
Alcohols" could be listed alongside Carbs, Fat, Protein, etc, those of us
that need to subtract them could simply and quickly compare at a glance in
the "Daily Totals Pane". If Sugar Alcohols are listed in the "Add
Nutritional Information" template, it would make it so much easier to add
foods. As it is, I have to manually create all foods that contain them so
that I can subtract them from the carb count. I am unable to simply use
the FitBit search feature, or scan the barcode as sugar alcohols have not
been subtracted. It's very time consuming, but I would prefer to keep
everything within my FitBit App and Dashboard without having to rely on a
third-party app and/or import into FitBit. These simple additions would
greatly help people with Diabetes, Epilepsy, Low-Carb Dieters, and anyone
else that really needs to keep a close eye on our Net Carb intake for our
health. As I mentioned earlier, adding this feature/ability may even
attract more FitBit users who would prefer a less-tedious, all-in-one
solution for better management of their exercise and dietary needs. Imagine having a more functional product that possibly more physicians would recommend to their patients to improve their health.

ADD: "*Net Carbs*" (Total Carbs minus (-) Dietary Fiber) and add "*Sugar
Alcohols*" separately in the "Daily Totals" food pane.

We have been told repeatedly that FitBit Developers review these idea requests, so we'll see if they are paying attention.  Apparently having the ability to Track Net Carbs has been requested for a VERY long time, with NO help from FitBit.  We have provided some very simple solutions that are seriously needed!

Yes, it would be great to track carbs, fats, and proteins, even sodium.
As a Diabetic, i have to count Carbs at every meal, I no longer count Calories. I am type 2, and I manage my Diabetes by counting Carbs , and also, by Medications and exercise. I would imagine a Type 1 diabetic, would find having the Carb counting feature even more useful, than me especially when calculating their insulin requirements for meals.

Same here! I think it is much more important to have an overview of the intaken amounts of proteine, carbs and fat than just the amount of calories. This would be so helpful for fat loss or muscle gain candidates. I was told the online dashboard already shows this information but as most people only use smartphones and their mobile apps these days I also would love to see this as a new feature on the Fitbit App! Thanks!
