Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

Have you been able to find how that's done? I couldn't find that in what I read! That would be awesome!

So when is this update coming?

There was a pretty good video on the indiegogo site...mention made of the
amount of water in your cells...I would honestly need to listen to the
explaination again. You can probably go to youtube and enter bio ring and
that video would come up there as well.

Hi there,

Just thought it would be a great idea for the nutritional section on the app to show a breakdown of macros instead of just a total calorie count. I know some people try to cut out or increase certain macros but it's hard to keep an eye on that when all you have is calories.

Just a thought! I think it would really up Fitbit's game

Would love to see a fat gram counter added to the app for those of us that follow a lowfat diet. Love all the other things on the app but would be very helpful to just go to dashboard and see total fat grams as well as calories and everything else. Thanks!

If fitbit added macros to the app, I would have no reason to use MyFitnessPal.

Hello, I try to stick to a low carb diet rather than a low calorie diet. It would be nice if Fitbit had either a mode for carb counting/tracking or a section for this added to the calorie tracker. I currently have to use a different all for this, it would be much easier and less time consuming if I could do it all in one app. Thanks for reading!!

Adding my vote to the request that the mobile app show macros! I don't like MFP. Tracking food on the FitBit app is super easy and since the data is already on the main dashboard, it would be great to be able to see it on the app for when you are out and about and making food decisions.

It would be beneficial to include the amount of daily carbs/protein in addition to the calorie intakes in the summaries. Having to look at each item individually then manually adding them is annoying but logging my food intake into two apps is a nuisance.

A tile option on the home screen within the app that displays macro-nutrient data such as total carbohydrates, protein, and fat intake would be amazing!

This would render several other apps that focus solely on this data obsolete. Just an idea that would improve the already awesome Fitbit!

Another reason that I prefer carbs over calories, is that my dietician has me on a carb budget, and carb totals will help me meet these goals

I think that Fitbit should seriously add macros, showing net carbs and distinguish between carbs and sugars. Its such a small app addition!!!! I integrate with INRFOOD but the app is not stable yet. Watch them come out with a fitness wrist bracelet and Fitbit will have lost one customer for sure. Not because I don't love them, but because this is really a needed feature and at the end consumer needs shape the market. Wonder what the reasons are for such a lack!

This is taking a little too long to implement...

  • Add Sugar and Fiber
  • A tile option on the home screen within the phone app that displays all macro-nutrient data

YES! MyFitnessPal does this well, but I don't want to use multiple sites/apps.

As others have addressed, I think it's an absolute must to update the Food page of the Fitbit app to include macronutrient tracking. Understanding your daily breakdown of protein, carbohydrate, and fat intake is essential to following a healthy lifestyle, and I'd love to be able to do it on Fitbit's fantastic app interface.

I'd like to be able to set macro percentage goals, see long-term trends in macronutrient intake, and see what foods are contributing to my intake of each macronutrient (i.e., I get 40% of my daily protein from chicken breast).

Other food-tracking apps often express macro make-up via pie chart, as below. I think this would be an effective, clean way to illustrate daily intake and longer-term diet trends on the Fitbit app.

Also, it may be a stretch, but I'd love to be able to see Food summaries (and specifically the macro pie chart, with perhaps a total calorie intake count above or below) on my Fitbit Blaze screen. It'd be an extremely convenient and practical way to check your progress/status for the day, diet-wise.

There should definitely be a way to see your macro-nutrient intake levels from the app. Please do your best to make this happen! Fitbits cost a lot of money, so I'm confused as to how an app like MyFitnessPal can be free to use and have this capability.

Agree. I toggle back and forth between the app and the dashboard so that I can track and view my macronutrients. Please consider this enhancement.

Still waiting on a feature to be able to see the macronutrients on the calorie counter! At least the protein, carbs and fats please, thanks!
