Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

Carbohydrate, net carb tile needed.

Calories are secondaryw for my food plan.

I have carb intolerance.

I've been very successful with my Fitbit apps and I love it.

I've been using it for over a year and have lost over 100 lbs.

I'm maintaining for the last 6 mos, with the help of Fitbit on my iOS 5s.

The Food log already shows Calories In vs. Out, why not add a feature where I can touch he "In" bar (the Yellow one) on a given day and see a breakdown of the Protein/Carbs/Fats - preferably in %, as I am aware that said info is currently available by weight (grams, etc)...

This post says exactly what I came on here to say, although, you did a better job of it than I.  The macronutrient breakdown is extremely important.  Weather you are building muscle or loosing fat, knowing where your macronutrients are is essential.  There is now one size fits all, and people will utilize it differently to meet their goals.  This could be done on a simple pie chart through the mobile app or a triple bar graph for each day showing each macronutrient that makes up your total calorie intake.  Haveing this will definately widen the gap between the competition.  No more having to go to a seperate app and double logging your food intake would make it far easier to keep up with.  The only other thing that would be an outstanding feature is to have a weight training log on the mobile app.  This way you can log you exercise, sets, and reps.  I'm sure that Fitbit is already working on this, and I absolutely love this product.  It has made a big difference within a few months for me and my family.

I agree with Aga, as a diabetic, having a tile for tracking grams of carbohydrates would be immensely useful, more valuable in fact that the calorie tracking tile!    There are a lot of users out there I'm sure who track carbs even if they are not diabetic.

Is there any update on this?

I would also be very interested in carb tracking.

I would like to see net carbs included in the nutritional information for recorded foods and in the totals reported for daily intake. Net carbs are total carbs minus fiber and minus sugar alcohols. That's the more relevant carb number for those of us trying to minimize carbs. I try keep net carbs under 50 grams per day or at least under 100. The total carb metric does not give me the number I need to measure whether I am meeting that goal.

I just wanted to ask if you have plans to update the nutrition portion of the Fitbit software. Since I went from tracking calories to macros for body building I have not been able to use Fitbit for my nutrition. Instead I have used MyFitnessPal. When you adjust the serving size the macros adjust too and it even tracks them like Fitbit does calories. It also lets you set your own custom daily goals. I love my Fitbit and really want to continue using it but it isn't very functional when it doesn't track my nutrition. Please help me continue using your product, it was an amazing fitness and calorie tracker but I think it could be so much better!

I agree.  I won't be wasting my time tracking food using the fitbit app.  I have never cared about straight calorie intake, and at almost 34 I'm not starting now.  Carbs, protein, fiber, etc. are much more important to me than calories.  I don't have time to log into the desktop site to figure this out.

Hold that thought! After posting this I accidentally discovered a way to do it through fitbit. I did go premium which was between $30-40.00 per year, and may be required for you to access this data. The reason that I can’t say for sure about having to go premium is because I decided to do it first and then came across my macro break down. You already know that you can enter your food log through the fitbit app, but to view your macros you will have to go to your dashboard on fitbit and go to your food log there. Near the bottom where you click on your food log it will have an area that you can click to see more. That is where you will get your macro breakdown. Another nice thing about it is I can enter any date back to when I started entering my logs several months ago and get those macro’s as well. You can check these by going to your dashboard on either your computer, tablet, or phone. Unfortunately, they are not integrated into the app at this time. I hope this helps you as it did make a big difference for me.

Track nutrients (carbs, protein, fat, sodium, fibre). This is important information for people in training and with dietary issues. Other fitness apps provide this info so it is possible.

I was looking for the same thing.  I currently have to use My Fitness Pal for the macronutrients and keeping it synced to my Surge doesnt give me real time information.  So I have had to unsync my Surge.

A breakdown of this is available on your food log online, if that helps?

Thank you for your reply. I know it tracks this on individual food items (is this what you meant?) but I would like to see it by the day and week.

I came here to ask for this! I am trying really hard to improve my diet and I wish this calorie composition could be available as a tile on the dashboard & on the mobile app. I end up going onto the fitbit dashboard via the browser just to see this and I wish it was more available.

I'd like to see some sort of graphical display of my actual macronutrient intake vs recommended.  Select daily, weekly or 28 day summary.  The ability to customize the recommended amounts would also be helpful.

I think it would also be helpful to be able to customize macro requirements. I haven't quite memorized my macro requirements, so everytime I check them online, I have to reference a slip of paper I keep with me, which is a little annoying. Being able to check this on the app would be very helpful as well!

It would be nice if Fitbit would track the amount of carbohydrates and fat grams eaten for people who are on the ketogenic or low carb diets

I think it's ridiculous that you cannot set you're own caloric intake goals and macro nutrition intake goals. This feature needs to be stepped up ASAP. We have different weights we want to reach and different methods to reach the goals we want to meet. C'mon Fitbit
