Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

I would also love on mobile eventually! I do not use a computer! I do not want to use two apps for diet/exercise.

I am new to fitbit and would definately encourage macro nutrient tracking.

A lot of users on the forum are confused about the realationship between calories and bodyfat. If they want to get the most out of the Aria linking in macro nutrients would give them not only the goal metric (body fat %) but also a target to get there (protien\carb\fat ratio). If you are measuring composition of peoples bodies i think it also important to provide the tools to measure the compostion of calorie intake in a meaningful way.

In particular i am trying to gain lean muscle and would love a protien tracker so i can ensure i get my fill everyday to meet my muscle gain targets.

Also - thinking of an Aria but am put off by the lack of muscle % being measured. If this was added as well as the protien tracker i would be a very happy camper (as well as many others i'd assume).

Tracking of macronutrients within Fitbit's mobile platform would be extremely helpful and greatly simplify my Fitbit experience. Overall, I am extremely happy with my Fitibit experience but this would be an extremely appreciated addition!

I just found the nutrient breakdown on the computer dashboard, but YES! Integrating these into my GOALS on the app would greatly increase my fitness-tracking efficiency.  Please and thank you!

I just found the nutrient breakdown on the computer dashboard, but Integrating these into my GOALS on the app would greatly increase my fitness-tracking efficiency. Calories do not equal calories. I'm doing alright on activity and number of calories but just saw the nutritional breakdown. My nutrients are unacceptable. Please make this easier for me to track! Please and thank you!

It would be extremely useful to be able to see macronutrients eaten throughout a day in the phone apps, even just the major ones such as carbs, protein, fiber, etc.

i wish there was a section to add to the app that showed is our protein total from our logged food. Even better would be a section that allowed us to add protein, add carbs, add fat, add sodium, sugar, or any other bits of nutrition we are tracking. Calories are good to start with on monitoring, but some of us follow other info too. It's too hard to go to the dashboard on the computer all the time to track these things or to toggle through all of our foods to add them on our own. The app should let us track the parts of nutrition we focus on.

I have had a sleeve gastrectomy and love my fitbit Charge HR. My only problem is I have to have a certain amount of protein each day. Most apps out there show your daily intake of protein. fat, and carbs. To do this with fitbit you have to look on every entry on the tracker and add it up yourself. Can this be added to the app?

I didn't see your post and just posted this! I hope they do change this

Try linking your Fitbit to the "My Fitness Pal" app.  You are able to see totals for a bunch of nutrients (protein, carbs, sugars, fats, vitamins, etc).  It uploads to my Fitbit app so I still can see all of their stats too!

I probably will try that for now but you shouldn't have to use 2 apps for information most apps give already and those are free ones. I paid $150 and have to have another app with it?? That sounds nackwards

I would like to see the net carbs as well or at least add the sugar alcohols so it's easy to track the needed information for Atkins or other Keto diets.

Hello,

I would like the option of tracking how many carbs I eat with each meal instead of my day being determined by calories. This isn't helpful. I was considering purchasing the Surge, but am now reconsidering because I thought that Fitbit would have caught up with the times by now.

My mom is also diabetic and would like to purcahse one, but hasn't for the same reason.

Please make the app just as beneficial as the wristbands!!!

+1.

I don't track calories but do often do low carb/low GI tracking. A carb count would be a very simple way of tracking intake and would help identify where carb intake leads to weight gain.

Quite a few diets track carbs, so should be a good base of potential users who would benefit.

I agree tracking Carbs is essential for me not cals. Can you at least give the option to choose which to display.

This breakdown (i.e. protein, carbs, fat) is called Macronutrients. Upvote my other post, which has 10 votes already. Im sure u didnt notice it, but if every person keeps writing his own post we will never have enough votes to make a difference.

I would love to have an additional app that will track all of the nutritional data of the food that I eat for example fat content saturated fat content and sodium better yet instead of another app have buy fit bit also track those items. I believe there are apps out there where you can take a picture of the product barcode and it comes up with all of the nutritional data our program like that link to it with the fit bit would be wonderful

YES! It is a huge pain to have to go to the Dashboard on my phone's browser and look at this info on the very small screen. It should be so easy to make it display nicely in the app!!

I would gladly pay for the Priemium option if it was more app friendly for this type of feature. Most of us use the app only since we are 'on-the-go' (and in addition, no offense, but the desktop version is a little archaic feeling for some reason).

Until this happens I will contiune to enter food in one app (I use MyPlate), wear my fitbit (HR Charge), and sync everything to Apple Health (fitbit will sync with Sync Solver). Apple Health allows me to get all the information I want in a quick glance.

It's not ideal, but since fitbit's information visble on my waearable I don't need to ever look at their app. So I really look at two (MyPlate and Apple Health).

I suppose I am still using the fitbit product, just not being an engaged customer, which is bad for business in my mind - the second one device meets my needs I will jump ship.

I use myfitness to track my daily nutrition, specifically sodium.  It's nice that you can put food into fitbit, but it would be nice to have totals of the nutritional facts.

I would love to have direct access to my macros on the calorie tracking section of the fitbit app. They're an important part of my diet and on-the-go access would be a huge plus.

As of now I have to go to the site to do this, and it seems like it could easily be displayed on the app.

Right now I am following a strict low-carb diet. So for me calories are second to the carb count. Because of this, I have to login to my fitbit dashboard to see my nutrition breakdown. Unfortunately the app right now on my Android phone only shows calories 😞

It would be nice to also allow the phone app to show the nutrition breakdown for those of us following a diet that restricts certain intake of carbs, sugar, fat, etc.

Thank you for the suggestion about adding more nutritional information to the food log. We appreciate your feedback and will be sure to relay the message on. Right now you can see nutritional information on the food log at Fitbit.com, but the information is not on the Fitbit App. If this is a feature that you want to see on the App, please make it known in your comments.

We will be sure to update the post with any new information.
