Trade in/Upgrade Program

I've been a fitbit user for a little over a year now, receiving one as a gift last Christmas. Now seeing how my flex is so behind the times, I would like to upgrade to one of the HR ones. However, spending another 130-150 is very difficult. Wanting Fitbit to offer an upgrade or trade in program to allow for this to be more affordable.

It's indeed good idea to maintain customer base. If Fitbit team come up with trade-in policy they will see lot of users will show with exchange for old device. I'm the one using FitBit Blaze from last 3 yrs and the device works like charm. Not a single issue till now. I'm interested in the same as Blaze is out of support. If i want to buy the new one i have to discard old one and no one will buy it as it's out of support. I don't want to throw the device in dustbin as it still worth for me.

I casted my vote for the idea as i'm using Blaze for 3 yrs without any single issue. I loved the product and now want to upgrade it to latest and greatest one. But, what i'm gonna do with my existing device ? Do i have to discard it as it's or sell it to someone ?

I can't sell this device as it's out of support. So i have to keep it as it is which sounds weird.

I really want to Fitbit to consider this to maintain their customer base else they will move to other providers like Apple, Samsung which gives more lucrative offer to retain their customers. I'm seeing lot of people switched it to other platform as they feel fitbit is less bother about them. I still have hope to see some changes. This idea received multiple votes and moved to "Under Consideration". But this was opened long back and nothing progressed yet to positive. If i don't see any change. I will move on as well to something else. Fingers crossed

Hi @limechair, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to see Trade in/Upgrade Program. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about it here. I hope to see you around.

@YojanaFitbit I can see that the thread is marked as "Under Consideration" and i also gone through couple of comments. It's pending for a very long time to come to conclusion. I'm not seeing any progress made by fitbit team on it. I have option left to switch to samsung as they are giving me trade-in option.

I have expressed my support a many times in the past and have been following this thread since day one. I can understand why so many are saying its not going to happen because it has been "under construction" for so long. I honestly do not have high hopes of this happening. But I am still going to stay positive because I would love for it to happen and I understand that FitBit gets a absolutely ridiculous amount of suggestions and if a suggestion has even a slight possibility they do actually look into. Plus if they had no interest in this at all, it would have already been denied and they would have informed everyone. So while it may be upsetting or concerning that is has been so long with no news, no movement, no developments etc at least it has not been completely denied. I will express that it would be wonderful to hear some news or updates instead of just continuing to say it has been moved to "under construction". We know it is "under construction", so like I said it would be nice to hear something even if it is "it is still being considered however we are at a stall or it has been put on hold, or we have had some problems such as....or even ask for customers opinions on some things". I think that would go along way with the customers, especially those that feel they are being ignored or that FitBit doesn't care. Of course it is not the only suggestion being looked into. There is no way they can look into only one suggestion at a time, there are just so many.  It is not an overnight situation. I have always had above excellent support when I have contacted FitBit with questions or a problem. They have always done their best in helping me, answering me and they try to do so as fast as possible. I love my device, yes I would love to be able to get a newer device and FitBit. I have no interest or desire to leave. Again I would love for this to happen. And I am still trying to stay positive that it will be approved because the devices can be costly so then I would be able to upgrade to a Versa 2 or if a newer one is released. a lot sooner.

I cannot see a trade in the program working for them hence the reason it does not exist already.

The only way this could work for them would be as an offer to Premium members who are subscribers. So with a premium membership, you could get a basic level of the device almost thrown in or heavily discounted and a new option every 12 months in the same way as you would a phone contract. The Premium service gives a much more predictable income for them and allows the customers to spread the cost.

So basically make it a discount based benefit for Premium members. It's a start!

a trade in credit is needed due to fitbit's agressive planned obsolescence.  devices last about a year and sync intermittently, or have software enhancement drag battery life.

It's not happening as per my understanding. I was looking for trade-in facility in Target and they were offering me $15 for Blaze. I thought let me donate this device and switch it to other device on different platform. So many raising voice but no response from fitbit other than marking thread "UNDER CONSIDERATION"

I think you guys should have a exchange program. It should be:
If your Fitbit breaks 5 times or more, you are eligible for a exchange program. You will be mailed a coupon for 60-80% off a new Fitbit of your choice. 60% off if it’s broken 5 times, 70% if it’s 6 times, and 80% off it’s it’s broken 7 times or more. Please take this into consideration

if a device stops working, and is still under warranty, the current options are replacement of the same or 50% off new device, i suggest that a third option or instead of the 50% off option, to simply allow users to pay the difference for a new device. At least for if the new device wanted is in the same line, like charge series, or versa series.

Hi @LizzyFitbit, thanks for taking a look at this. I don't think this is exactly the same request though. I was more thinking about when a device is broken and is still in warranty, there should be an option to upgrade with price difference, since it's Fitbit's fault that the device stopped working within warranty, instead of paying 50% for a new device, it's more reasonable to allow for upgrade with just the price difference, as the device should be working, and it's not.

For example, my Charge 3 stopped working properly after 7 months (within the 1 year warranty), and I paid $170 for it. If i were to pay 50% for the new Charge 4, the next in the series, that's an extra $100. So essentially, I've paid  $270 for a working Charge 4, when the originally price for the Charge 4 is $200. It doesn't make any sense. What make sense would be, that I pay the $30 difference between the Charge 3 and Charge 4 and get upgraded to the Charge 4.

I would absolutely love a trade-in program, too.  Fitbit already sells refurbished items, and all the giants like Amazon and Target offer trade-in programs for their electronics.  It just makes sense.  There are a lot of us who like to keep up with the newest gadgets, and would be much more inclined to do so if we could get a small discount for trading in an old working device.

Not to be too snarky, but I've had enough Fitbit devices fail that I feel like the support/exchange/warranty is already a trade up program.

I have had to return two Versas because they have overheated on the charger. I would like the option of getting another Versa at no charge or paying the difference between my Versa and the new Versa 2. I have had several fitbits and only had the overheating issue with the Versa. I would like the option of replacing it with something different.

I second this suggestion and it is very much needed. A trade-in program goes a long way in generating customer satisfaction as well retaining customers within the Fitbit ecosystem. Google offers a trade-in program for their smartphones. Given the impending acquisition, I think it is only logical that Fitbit develop a trade-in program for the Smartwatches. You could differentiate between Fitbit devices and non-Fitbit devices, in varying levels of operating condition, in varying levels of membership (regular vs. premium), customer lifetime (long time Fitbit users vs. new ones), and many other slicers you could think of. With the launch of Sense and Versa 3, many Versa and Versa 2 owners will feel compelled to upgrade to either option. Offering a compelling trade-in offer will go a long way in generating those conversions.

Every one and a half year Fitbit comes with a new device, and I normally go for the new upgrade, So now I have 3 devices with me all working and 2 of them not being used at all . Further I am planning to buy fitbit sense now so I will have 4 devices, I am sure many others are also facing same problem so if u can look into a exchange/trade-in policy

I'm on my third Fitbit.  I started with the ChargeHR and loved it.  I upgraded to the Ionic which is absolutely wonderful.  However, I started having battery issues with it (outside of the warranty period) so I decided to buy a new one this year.  I am now having battery issues again (since the upgrade for Active Zone Minutes) and am interested in upgrading to the new Sense which sounds even more amazing; however, I can not justify purchasing two $300+ watches in the same year.  A trade-in or loyalty program would be awesome.  Fitbit has helped me become more aware of creating and maintaining healthy habits.  I can't imagine not wearing it every day.  Thank you!
