Turn off quick view when I'm sleeping (or at customizable times) aka 'Night Mode'

I love the quick view feature however when I'm sleeping I tend to wave my arms around which activates the display which sometimes wakes me up, especially if my wrist is close to my face.

My fitbit knows when I'm sleeping as it tracks my sleep so how about having the capability to disable quick view automatically whilst I'm sleeping, in fact don't even have it as a selectable option just don't trigger quick view when my fitbit knows I'm sleeping.

Great feature! I don’t even need it to do this automatically when it senses I am sleeping. I’d actually be happier with a setting I can turn off manually...for example the current ‘auto’ and ‘manual’ screen wake plus an ‘off’.

In my ideal world, when I go to bed I will turn the screen ‘off’. That way as I am just starting to doze off and move my arm I won’t get hit with an annoying flash of light.

Plus if I’m at a movie or the aquarium or the planetarium or some other less brightly lit place I can turn the light ‘off’.

I feel that the light turning on keeps me from getting to sleep more than it wakes me up. So I long for an ‘off’ switch. But if I can’t have that I certainly hope this sensing option becomes a reality.

Thanks.

Agree. Allow a setting for example 06:00 - 22:00 display setting as normal but 22:01 - 05:59 set the screen to automatically asleep so it doesn’t shine brightly due to movement at night

Brightness should automatically change to "dim" during target sleep schedule hours, then revert back to prior settings after wake up time, or alarm goes off.

If turning off quick view while sleeping is  difficult to manage, can you add the ability to change this setting on the actual Fitbit? It would be easier if I could use the Fitbit settings to toggle the quick view feature on/off.

You can switch it off in the settings in the Fitbit app. It is a pain to
have to re-do it every night and morning though

You can’t stop the side button form awaking the watch though can you?

It would be a less annoying to be able to turn quick view on/off directly on the Fitbit versus needing to usie the app on my phone.

Nope! I started taking mine off completely because it's just infuriating.
Which makes sleep tracking useless. Very annoying.

@cdpage - I've updated the blog post I made about this topic with your suggestion - I like it!

Currently moderators have only had to do this 9 times based on the 49 pages of requests here... =\

But let's be honest - being the 3rd highest voted feature request of all time and still open for 4 years is pretty disheartening ...

I have found that if you hold the left side button on the versa, you get a choice to change screen awake to manual, going to try tonight and see how it works

I use that nightly, however, due to the touch screen, it may still turn on
when you bump the screen...it's better, but not perfect...

@debs thank you so much! When I need the display “off”, the last thing I want to do is to get my phone out and be exposed to even more blue light! Hope they can figure out a sleep mode option soon!

Well, considering this request has been floating around since 2015, I’m losing faith with fitbit!

Come on, Fitbit!!!
I know you guys can fix this.
at least you could tell us what the problem is!

i love your products. and i'd love to buy a charge 3 asap - but first you have to do your job and listen to your customers!!!

"Let's see what other users think about it."

It's literally broken. If you used one you would know. Please fix what's already implemented before concerning yourselves with new features and without waiting to see what other users think about it.

Guess what... We think broken features should be fixed.

@post78 I could not agree more. I rolled over last night and got another laser beam to my eye. Still waiting to see an actual update come out. This seems to be a very common thread...

I agree, I had this same idea but a little different.

I figured, since the device/app "knows" when you fell asleep, the dim period could begin once it was detected that you fell asleep.

That may be more complicated than the OP's idea, which is also great, and more straightforward and probably easier to program.

But my method could deal with times outside your sleep window too.

5 year old bug and a thread with 1200 unhappy customers(and that does not take into consideration all the other posts on the subject), and still no bugfix.

It ruins the whole purpose that many own a fitbit wristband, sleeptracking.

And honestly, it wouldnt take more than a couple of hours to fix and test properly.

One thing is certain, I will never spend money or recommend a fitbit product again.

I absolutely agree. At night I always feel a slight annoyance when, even through my closed eyes, and with brightness set to dim, I see the flash of the light.

Although, as a database developer, I know that a it would take much more than a couple of hours to fix. I can only assume the Apple watch has hurt Fitbit much more than they care to admit. And with a raft of products to support along with R&D they are really hurting in the software development side. New products bring revenue - software modifications do not.

I actually bought an Apple watch before the Fitbit - but, thanks to their return policy, returned it after a few days - having not worn a watch for 40 years, it was too heavy and bulky for me.

For charge 3 also, please stop the display screen light coming on when I’m asleep!

I work varying shift schedules, so it is inconvenient for me to adjust the do not disturb times on my phone constantly. I like the notifications when I am awake, but not so much when I am asleep. The option to disable notifications when Fitbit senses you are asleep would be ideal.

Hello @TM18, thanks for sharing this idea with us, this feature suggestion is under consideration so I’ve moved your post here as it is not currently planned.

I have to say that I have lost confidence in Fitbit. While it has been interesting showing my sleep patterns, without being able to annotate each day with context, such as, 'big dinner late'; '2 bottles of wine'; 'big exercise day'; 'anxious about exams' etc etc, the fact that my patterns might show more or less REM or Light sleep or whatever, becomes meaningless if we can't determine a behaviour pattern that affects sleep by entering notes in the sleep log.

Couple that with the annoying flash of light which wakes me up and now I sleep with my Fitbit on my bedside table. My detailed sleep log shows me waking up for brief periods numerous times per night - now I wonder if it is that stupid light flash that actually wakes me up!

For me, the Charge 3 is a now only a wrist pulse meter and a watch - albeit it is difficult to see in bright light - so usefulness diminished yet again.

Let's not forget that it also has an oxygen saturation measuring device as well - but no word on when we will get any data about that!

As I said in a previous post above - the reality is that hardware sales produce income - software enhancements do not - and considering how long the request to allow the screen to turn off when sleeping has been raised, it appears that we may never get it.

If I can find a buyer for my Charge 3 without taking too much of a dollar hit, I would do it in a flash .

@SunsetRunner  you have won my heart with '2 bottles of wine'

Users have been alerting Fitbit about this bug since the Charge 1.  When I bought my Charge 2, there was already a long list of complaints.  And I use the term bug because a sleep tracker that wakes you at night is absurd.  It's not just Quick View, which is referenced in the title of this thread, but also the Tap To Wake function that cannot be disabled.  I haven't used Quick View since I first got it, though I'd like to if it weren't so inconvenient to switch on & off.  But still, that Tap To Wake lights up my room at night.

Well there we have it, "it is not currently planned". Fitbit don't care about current customers.

On the ACE you can’t currently switch off the quick view function.  This is really bad as my son kept getting woken up by the bright light during the night.  He now can’t wear it at night which removes the sleep monitoring which we wanted to use.

Please can this be enabled!
