I know most people don't know about or understand HRV but its a health marker that could not only be great for people losing weight but for doctors to monitor stress response. You may not get a lot of requests for it but you may be the catalyst for people paying attention to this number and how cortisol and adrenaline are moderated in the body to increase or decrease fat loss and or weight gain. The lower the recovery time (measured by heart rate) tells us when and how to work out next, the higher the recovery time tells us that our workouts need to be lighter because our body is under stress (the influences of cortisol as a protective factor from stress that can work negatively toward losing weight and gaining muscle and staying healthy). As a personal trainer, therapist and health coach I will tell you that Fitbit would be one of the first complete watches with this feature and it is really invaluable. Much appreciation for you considering this feature.Sincerely
Measures based on electrical signals are better for HRV measurement than measures based on optical signals. This is because electrical signals give sharp peaks (R-peaks) which allows precise measurement of interbeat intervals. Optical signals give flatter peaks so algorithms find it harder to identify the top of the peak so accuracy of interbeat intervals is lower. However, this just adds random noise so the right algorithm can estimate HRV using optical signals- it just needs a longer period to calculate over for accuracy. If the aim is to estimate resting High Frequency Heart Rate Variability (useful for measuring stress resilience and training readiness) then almost certainly the Fitbit Charge 3 could do this given the right algorithms. The results would probably be good enough - especially if calculated whilst sleeping with low restlessness.
This would be a great feature to add. Moment by moment measures of HF-HRV are probably beyond the sensors capability though.
Hi @Chrismorgan87, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us,this feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here as it is not currently planned. Thanks for your understanding, I hope to see you around.

I would very like to be able to have access directly to the HRV (Heart Rate Variability) Mesure or at least save or export my HR data in order to do some calculation.

@MarcelBK Yes, please, add HRV monitoring and readings! This is a key metric for gauging recovery, stress and readiness. Adding it will attract athletes and trained fitness individuals, like myself.
I would be tremendously interested in 24/7 wrist based heart rate variability monitoring/tracking from Fitbit. I have a chronic illness and would love to be able to use 24/7 wrist based HRV tracking in order to prevent flares and stay healthy while staying as active and productive as possible. Lots of consumers are interested in HRV for their athletic/fitness training, but there is also a huge chronic disease population that would love this technology from Fitbit to prevent flares!

Is there a plan to provide more indepth analytics like the Apple Health app does. I think the Fitbit ios app is far superior but can only be enhanced with better analytics like Heart Rate Variability.. etc..
I actually asked for a HRV monitor and was given the Charge 3. It’s very lovely but not what I am after and think Fitbit is missing out here. I am fit and active enough but it’s my stress levels I want to track rather than the other features offered.

Just bought this watch.... husband has a Garmin with stress monitoring which has proved really useful. I thought this would be a standard feature on the fit bit (as I saw fitbit as a brand leader). Disappointed that it doesn't have this feature, especially when I can see it is in demand by so many. 😞 poor show Fitbit... on the up side...it looks nice, tells the time and has lots of other features. It's just a shame I have a stressed out life like 99% of the population that I wanted this feature for 😉
Can a stress read out be added? You can see such reading on Samsung health, and I would hope that fitbit, since is always on my wrist would be able to also provide such a read out.
