Waterproof trackers

I'm looking for a completely waterproof tracker with all of the features (sleep, heart rate, steps, stairs, miles, calories, reminder to move, phone alerts, clock with date, etc) all in one. When??  Please make this your next release!!!!!

A special Fitbit for swimming would be cool, it could have less features, but sounds cool and probably would give more accurate swimming calorie burn.

When I take it off I forget to put it back on, yes others wish alarm to remind them to put back on. I suggest make it waterproof and we don't have to take off at all. Furthermore, as a lap swimmer. .it is tedium to count every lap or length... please allow our minds to relax while exercising rather than counting.

Wow! That is a great idea! For Fitbit to track the laps! Maybe even be able to give you a speed per lap. Yes that is a good idea. They could make a waterproof one that doesn't track stair cases. The star cases count requires a little hole, plug that hole, remove the stair count and add swimming capability. also being notified every hour when you forget to pick up your Fitbit when it's charged, besides just 1 reminder seems like a great idea.

@Diana1051^ And the Fitbit.could notify you when you leave your phone, so you don't lose it.

So lots of people have posted requesting a waterproof watch.

I always thought that the waterproof feature was left out due to the charging port, which I believed could have been solved with a wireless charging port, but I read that this is actually due to the altimeter requiring a small hole in the back of the watch.

I swim a lot, but I also hike a lot and would love to find a way to use both of these features in one watch.

I thought that maybe there could be a way to have the watch, which would be waterproof with all the regular features, with a special section for the altimeter with its own chip capable of transmitting data that is able to be clipped off the watch for water activities, but able to be attached when out of the water in some way.

Not sure if this is any help at all but would loveto see this developed in the future.

Flex is good.
Charge had three all failed because moisture got in.
Surge my second one is on the way from hecause, despihecausete all realistic precautions I took, moisture got into it.
Only way this could've happened is sweating at the gym!

Supports default action is to replace products, you'll go bust if you keep on ignoring the user experience.

If you'd just spend some time changing the design and/or components and manufacturing process a bit you could save a fortune on support and have far happier customers.

I originally posted this in the discussion forums, and someone said, post this in feature requests, so here I am. Frankly, I don't think this is a "feature." I think making all Fitbits waterproof is a quality control standard that we shouldn't have to request.

Yes, I know, many others have made this feature request, but I'm starting my own thread because I have a lot to say.

And with those introductory comments, what follows is my original post:

I was an original Fitbit user, like a pre-order of the very first Fitbit ever made. I can't even remember how long ago that was, but it was before Bluetooth, and you needed a special doodad to wirelessly connect the device to your computer.

I went through about three or four of those things because they could not handle how sweaty I got during my workouts and ended up dying very young in their lives. Finally, I just stopped spending money to replace a device that had such an obvious design flaw. But I wasn't really upset with the company because at that time, Fitbit was a startup that had brought a brand new concept to market and was still testing to see if the idea could even hold.

So, after a hiatus of who knows how many years, I am back to owning a fitbit, this time a Charge. And here I read in these forums about users having their screens fog, devices die, etc, due to too much water exposure. The manual says that the device can withstand "even the most sweaty workouts" but not a shower. I call BS. My most sweaty workouts are not, and have never been, distinguishable from a shower.

More to the point, though, I find it so frustrating that after all these years and all of the company's successes, they are still cutting corners on this basic design and manufacturing feature. A device targeted to a physically active user base should be able to go where it's wearer goes, and that includes into water. And Fitbit now has exactly zero excuses for demanding that it's customers treat their devices with such kid gloves, in a world where it is so easy to make waterproof electronics.

I'm just going to call this as I see it and ask the rest of this community to join my voice in saying it is just plain lazy, slipshod, and contrary to the company's mission to manufacture devices that cannot tolerate submersion. Let's change this.

Agreed!  My daughters are on swim teams, and they would LOVE TO WEAR their Fitbits in the water to calculate laps or miles or calories during practice (and they are 11 & 13); Make them waterproof or develope a life case for them (like the Life Case for iPhones)!

The fitbit should be waterproof and able to be worn in pools, tubs, showers, and while doing dishes without having to worry about it getting wet.

There are IP66 rated barometric pressure sensors on the market. Could one of these be incorporated into a future fitbit tracker?

I think a waterproof Fitbit is possible. Currently the specs on all Fitbit devices recommend not using them in the pool. They say they are splash and sweat resistant. However, I do believe a completely waterproof version is possible through induction charging. Syncing would not be a problem as well. I even think there's a way to do a heart rate monitor in a completely enclosed system like that. I LOVE Fitbit products and whenever I try to sell "older" family members on it they say "can it be worn in the pool?" And I have to say no, because it's not recommended, but I think a new, waterproof device is very doable!

Just as an FYI.  I bought the Garmin Vivosmart HR and I love it!!!  I'm training for a triathlon and the Garmin does everything I need it to do (and more--the text notifications, etc. are awesome!).  I'm no longer a Fitbit customer!!

Happy for you. Yes great hardware Garmin is. But I have to admit fitbit app is the best, so far.

How about a Fitbit designed just for the water?  Something that could be used for lap swimming, water aerobics and recreational swimming?

The charge hr is waterproof to 1 atmosphere. I swim with it every day and no problem. My wife does too. They don't advertise this cause they're paranoid about the water trapped between the device and your skin causing a rash. But it's good to go.

Hi everyone. I love to swim and all, but my Fitbit Charge HR isn't waterproof, which sucks. I rwally want it to be waterproof and a better battery life, say ten days? Thank you and keep on moving.

I just want one that will work in the pool.  I don't care if it's a separate device, one that I put on just for water activities.  And I don't need an in depth analysis of my laps and strokes, just a general idea of the calories I use while hanging out in the water.

I train for triathalons and not having the ability to wear one of the more detailed trackers, like the charge or surge while training has me looking at the options of other brands trackers. It already doesn't track biking well, and i really dislike having to take it on and off for transitions. I really wish Fitbit would come out with one that is waterproof becuase the rest of the tracking options are great and easy to use.

You should really separate your requests into individual items.

Please create one that is waterproof for all us swimmers. I burn a lot of calories swimming but have no way of calculating that accurately.
Thanks!

I teach swimming and am in the water for my personal exercise: laps, walking/running, and water-aerobics (deep or shallow) and for instructing others.  I would like to see the company develop a water-proof case for the charge HR.  If a case or wrist band can not be developed, then a tracker that is designed for pool use.  It seems that current recommendations include that even the flex is removed before swimming.  This was not the case when I first purchased a flex some years ago.  Please tell me the company is at least looking into this situation!

I'd really love to upgrade my charge HR to the blaze, it's perfect you can wear it for sports to a night out and everything inbetween. How ever there's one thing missing with my life style I'd love a fitbit that is water proof, and at least 10 ATM. Do I hold on incase you make one or do I just buy the blaze and put up with the fact it's only 99% perfect.

@meshel - the way to get Fitbit to listen to our request to make a waterproof tracker (this discussion about waterproof has been going on since 2013 - go to page 1 of this thread) is to not purchase another of their products until they add the waterproof feature. Garmin is coming out with their Vivoactive HR in April that does everything that Fitbit Surge does AND it's waterproof! If Fitbit does not announce they are going to add a waterproof product to their line by then, I'm going Garmin. Don't want to but Fitbit keeps ignoring their customers.

I too would love a waterproof charge hr, the blaze is only water resistant as well, the garmin vivosmart hr is the only one that can be used in the water as far as I can tell

The Tomtom Spark (any version) is also waterproof. I am trying to decide between it and the Vivoactive HR. Both seem to do what my surge can plus a bit more. And both are WATERPROOF! Very revolutionary apparently. 😉
