I have tried on my wife's phone and it failed on that one as well but in a slightly different way - you can go into the set up routine but it then loops....

That's what my phone did for the first month after I bought the watch but
one day I realized that Fitbit had put out an app update a couple days
earlier so I tried again and my cards installed fine. I hate dangling
carrots in front of you but I guess the moral of the story is to keep
hoping and trying again occasionally. I would argue that it is not
integrated with Google Wallet at all but at least it should work some day.

My wife and I both have version 3.79. This is the version that has broken the Google Wallet setup process. Google / Fitbit are not good at QA....

This is the response I got from Fitbit, they have no idea when this issue will be fixed.

@Mom1951 mark sure that you have the case number and also make sure that the case is escalated.

I have done this and I seem to get updates every two weeks about how it is progressing. None have fixed it yet and version 3.79 of the Android Fitbit app has now broken the Google Wallet setup process for me and my Sense 2 and also my wife's Versa 4.

Currently I don't think that either the Sense 2 or the Versa 4 is fit for purpose. Google / Fitbit are advertising features that clearly don't work and in UK law this is a breach of the Advertising Standards Authority rules.

Just had confirmation that Fitbit are aware of the issue with the Android Fitbit app 3.79 and can't give a times for a fix.

The normal story.......

So I noticed something interesting ...  if I go to the Sense 2 settings in my Fitbit app (on my phone), there's an option "Device Lock" at the bottom.... I'm not 100% sure what that's *supposed* to do, but when I click it, the app goes to the Google Wallet setup screen ....

This makes me think that the current problem with Google Wallet not working properly with the Sense 2 may have some connection to either the Sense 2 or phone's screen lock settings?   Has anyone explored this or have further insights along these lines?    I figure while waiting for the crack team of clowns at Fitbit to diagnose and solve the problem, maybe we can do some crowd-sourced troubleshooting here and figure something out....

worth a try, right?

I use Fitbit Pay so know nothing about Google Wallet problems, but just under "Device Lock" notice it says "Enabled for Fitbit Pay only".  And you can use only Fitbit Pay or Google Wallet, one or the other.

If you want to learn about Device Lock, see How do I use the device lock on my Fitbit device?  but I don't think it is anything like you are thinking.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Interesting... well, I recommend you do NOT change away from Fitbit Pay ... I was using that too, and after I had my Sense 2 replaced for an (unrelated) warrenty issue, it automatically got updated to Google Wallet --- which currently doesn't work.  From what Support has said, it's not possible to downgrade (really UPGRADE 🙂 ) to Fitbit Pay once you're switched to Wallet

When setting up a wallet, The first step is to enable the Pin Lock. I set the pin lock for only the wallet (default is the whole tracker)

Without a wallet, there is no reason for the pin lock, and setting up a pin lock is part of the wallet setup.

From what you describe, It looks like a pin lock could be setup without setting up the wallet.

well... that's the issue... when I try to go to Wallet setup, it fails
before asking me to set up a pin.... Apparently, with some recent update,
Fitbit broke the ability to complete Google Wallet setup... and I suspect
it has something to do with how they manage the PIN/lock setup... but so
far Support has been no help whatsoever

The issues:

1) I managed to put in 1 card for Google pay, but everytime I try to add a new one (which is supported by the app) the screen won't open to allow me to add another card or do anything with Google pay.

2) cannot install any other apps?? Why?? There's so many other apps supported for previous version!

3) does this watch measure body composition? Like fat, water etc?

4) can't change music!!!!

So frustrating!  Feel like throwing the watCh away!

  • Sorry @Eishani but third party apps are not supported on the Sense 2 or Versa 4
  • No, unlike a scale, that passes current through the body, Fitbit trackers do not measure body fat, water or insulin.
  • You are correct music control, and unteaches music has been removed from the tracker.

Aa for the wallet, have you tried logging out / in with the fitbit app? Clear the fitbit app cache?

You say that you have one card connected. And trying to add a new card, the next screen never opens?

For 1) it sounds a bit like the same problem we're having in https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Sense/Fitbit-app-crashes-when-updating-credit-card/td-p/5105733

Unfortunately no solution yet.

Hi Rich_Laue,

Yes I have tried doing this. I even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the app. Its still not working. Apparently a lot of people have been having this issue so it begs me to question why on earth would fitbit advertise google pay etc when they don't have these features. It's plan daylight robbery off their customers !

I just changed from versa to sense 2 and me too facing the same issue with Google wallet on my Fitbit. I have been using Fitbit pay on versa for a few years with no issue at all. Now with sense 2, it just doesn't sync with Google wallet no matter what I did. I followed all instructions.

I'm shocked this issue has been on going for a long time with no solutions! This is soooo unacceptable!

Most of us are in the same situation with regards to Google Wallet on the Sense 2 and Versa 4.

You need to open a case with Fitbit and make sure it is escalated and get the case number so you can chase them about it.

I am also facing the same problem. I just got my watch today. And really disappointed to see that the watch doesn't work properly(Google Wallet). I'm going to return it.

What I dont understand is how Is this more expensive than the previous versions which had more functions than this watch does. It's an expensive downgrade in all honesty.

I would really like to know what is the additional amount for? Just the name sense *2*. What upgrades are there. What's different?

Best Answer

Agreed but I think I've found the fix for adding a card and worked in Morrisons 🙂

  • Unpair device on app
  • Factory reset on the Sense 2 smartwatch
  • Pair again
  • Long press button so menu appears on what you want to set to load up
  • Set Fitbit Pay (Not Google Wallet)
  • Long press button
  • Google Wallet loads up (this I believe is the bug, code issue I guess but I won't explain)
  • Go through app and click on Call Bank button
  • Call Bank, they authorise mobile payments on your phone, you'll receive email, no verification code needed...
  • Go back to Phone, error message appears "Something went wrong", click on Dismiss
  • Go back back back and come out of that setup
  • Go back to your smartwatch, long press button and PIN appears
  • Enter PIN you set
  • Tiny card appears and now you can use it.
