Can Sense sync over Wi-fi vs Bluetooth?

Simple Question: Can the Sense sync/update over Wi-Fi for Weather, etc?

I keep my phone in the kitchen.  When I wake in the morning, I was used to checking the weather & my sleep stats on my Galaxy Active (via Wi-Fi).  I now have the Sense but it has no weather info, etc until I get into Bluetooth range of my phone. (Argh!!)  I do have the Wi-Fi set up correctly for my Sense in the FitBit *app*

I'm starting to think this is not an error, but a purposeful build of this watch.  Can anyone confirm?  Please & thank you.

@LoRo syncing is over bluetooth only. The wi-fi connection is not really used for much:

"Connect your Fitbit watch to your Wi-Fi network to download playlists and apps from the Fitbit App Gallery, and for faster firmware updates."

I was hoping it would at least sync the weather app via Wi-Fi. (Bummer)

Thank you SteveH!

If my Fitbit aria 2 syncs with wifi why the sense doesn't? Yes, I'm a bit upset about this...

@LoRo WiFi will only be turned on while your tracker is being charged.

@Rinopopo your scale is stationary and able to hook up to your homes WiFi. Normally the fitbit is with the user and outside the limits of the users home router. Since a sync is initiated by the Fitbit app on the phone, I do not see any advantage to sync through WiFi.

@Rich_Laue maybe one major advantage would be to receive notifications and calls even if we are not on the bluetooth range and we are at home with both devices connected to the same wifi.

Best Answer

Yes but to conserve battery. Your tracker will only turn on WiFi while it is charging.

Having to remove the tracker, and connecting it to its charger, kind of defeats the purpose.

Thank you!  Since Wi-Fi was mentioned with music, I figured it must only turn on with those apps in use.  It's great to know the Wi-Fi is only on when in the charger.  (Not great that the option is limited to that, but great to know when it's actually working.)  Thx again.
