So, as a Canadian Sense owner, I can't use the ECG and have limited access to any mobile pay options (not an RBC customer). Anything else I miss out on?

Oh, and the Sense doesn't play podcasts?

What makes this better than a cheap no-name fitness watch?

One week in and not impressed.

@OrangeBandana - Different features are available in different countries. It’s up to the Canadian government to approve use of the ECG feature. And Fitbit has made the Mobile Pay option available to the banks. It is up to the banks to take the final steps of making their cards available for Fitbit. Both of these items are out of Fitbit’s control. But you should make your voice heard - contact your band and let them know they should participate.

I do not use the pay option and prefer to listen to podcasts and music directly from my phone. But here are other reasons I believe the Sense and (other Fitbit devices) are worth it:

  • I like the tools for stress management - Relax app and the EDA scan. I use the Relax app every night before going to sleep. It helps.
  • I share the sleep SPo2 nightly average and other health metrics with various doctors. My pulmonologist especially likes the SPo2 tracking. It shows my CPAP is working as it should.
  • Other features I like are the many clock faces available and the ability to use the Always On display mode. I also make frequent use of apps like Alarms, Timers, Agenda and the Med ID app.

But what I like more than anything else is being active in the Fitbit community! I’ve made friends here answering questions, reading/discussing tips and tricks in the the Health and Wellness forums and participating in Fitbit Challenges.  The challenges are the best! They motivate me to keep moving during these crazy times.

But it’s a personal decision. Everyone has to decide for him/her self if these features are important to them personally. Hope I’ve answered your question on what makes the Sense better than a cheap no-name fitness watch.

Carol,

Thanks for the response. I understand that some of this is out of Fitbit's
control but I am also not hearing a lot of energy on their side to convince
banks or government to change. Guessing we aren't a big enough market to be
worthwhile.

Also seems that my Samsung A51 isn't compatible for Gmail.

Frankly, I am not here for the challenges or community, my apologies if
this sounds rude, but was hoping for a device that worked more seamlessly
with my current lifestyle.

Was hoping to leave the phone at home when I exercise but that isn't
possible. Oh well. Might be better to save myself $500 and use my phone
instead.

thanks.

Yes, unfortunately, there are very limited choses for Canadian banks.  I'm a BMO customer, so I'm also out of luck there...

But, just to let you know, Health Canada approved the ECG Fitbit application last week, so many of us are hoping ECG will be available to Canadians within a matter of months (but that is just speculation at this point).

Can Fitbit really push a foreign country.

As for banks.. It really means more if they know that their users want the option. Some banks simply say that they are not interested in Fitbit, even when they offer Google and apple pay. The process to add fitbit is the same.
