Ionic to Sense: Having Second Thoughts...

I have a fully functioning Ionic that has never given me any issues and still has great battery life (5 days no problem).

I pre-ordered a Sense because of all the new features like EDA Scan, ECG and Temperature Sensor, etc...

However, I just noticed that my Fitbit app has Health Metrics which include Breathing Rate, Heart Rate Variability, Skin Temperature, and SPO2.

I guess this means that the technology for temperature already existing in the Ionic.  So, it appears that the Sense will only have a few new features which may not be that useful for me.  EDA and ECG are nice, but, not something I will probably use much.

I suppose Alexa and Google Assistant are handy, but I always have my phone with me anyway and will prefer to use a large screen for that.  The PurePulse 2.0 might give more accurate heart readings, maybe.

I'm just wondering what the community thinks?  Should I just keep using my Ionic as the OS update seems to have added a lot of features that are in the Sense?

As far as I understood the temperature sensor is quite different. Apart what you said, in favor of Sense/Versa 3 we have also a speaker (not yet enable, will be used to use the watch as a phone, when paired via BT).

But overall I agree with you, if you're happy with your Ionic, I wouldn't see reason to upgrade at this stage, maybe in a near future with some proper firmware update Sense/Versa 3 could become more interesting.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I read that we may have the option to use the Sense to take calls when paired with a phone.  This would be a good feature to have.  I just wonder how long it will take to enable?

At first I thought the Sense was revolutionary, but then my Ionic started getting additional features which tempered my initial response. However, I will probably just keep my order as-is.  I'm counting on PurePulse 2.0 being more accurate.  The better data we have, the more accurate the overall health picture will be.

If you're happy with the Ionic I say keep using it. The Sense seems to be a software update away from being a groundbreaking watch, but we don't know when that update is coming. If the new health tracking features aren't things you'd use then it's probably best to go back to that old adage: if it ain't broke don't fix it. I do think the Sense will end up as a great product, but you're asking about now.

Sadly, this member of the community loved her nuisance until she realized the heart rate inaccuracies during exercise.
She might return it tomorrow, but she is hoping the heart rate will work better after talking to Support. She is me by the way…

I hope you aren’t as upset as I am about the inaccurate heart rate sensor on the Sense. I looove my new sense, but with an inaccurate exercise hr it’s not going to give accurate stress scores. It won’t pick up quick changes in hr and is a good 10-20 beats incorrect during exercise.
I really want it to WORK! 💔

I agree with you.
The things I cannot live with areFirst and foremost the inaccurate exercise heart rate. Then, the fact we cannot use connected gps to save battery without sacrificing our heart rate data during the exercise... fingers crossed FitBit support will help me somehow, because I r only got til tomorrow to return it, and I don’t want to have to do that.

Right now. I would say stay with this Ionic.  Just got my Sense and I find numerous issues.  1) Multiple pre-release info and reviews I read mentioned a speaker, there isn't one. 2) App issues, I ran into numerous apps that I had on my Ionic that are not compatible with the Sense. 3) Alexa implementation is poor to say the least.  You have to have you phone with you in order to use it, why I don't know because the Sense has WiFi.  I'm also running into an issue where I get the message that the Sense must sync with the Fitbit app and the app must be allowed to run in the background in order for Alexa to work.  I getting this message even though the app is enabled to run in the background and is set never to be put to sleep.
