My Fitbit Sense is dead

I have had my Fitbit sense for 2 months now and it is suddenly dead.  It will not turn on and it will not charge.  Has anyone else had this problem?  It is very disappointing since it is not very old.

Mine just died - won't charge - won't turn on - had for 1 1/2 months

@kathyhersh  On all probability its just a charging problem, and with a flat battery it won't turn on.

Here's the Fitbit page on charging.

However if its clean, check that all 4 pins on the charging cable are equally prominent - there's a common problem with the charge cable that might be affecting your inability to charge.

In that case probably best to contact Fitbit Support directly. They may be able to help you with a replacement charger.

Mine went dead yesterday. The same issues as yours.  I had it for 6 months. I contacted customer service but have not had a solution. So bad

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble. Customer Service ordered a new
charger right away and were really pleasant to deal with.

Mine too!!!! I'm so mad. This is the worst product I've ever owned! And I got mine in December as well!

Firstly check the charger cable as noted above and ensure the contracts are clean.

As it's under warranty the cable can be replaced, or even the watch if it's not a bad contact or the charger cable.

I went to bed with 36% battery. Alarm did not go off so I slept in (not happy). That is when I found it was dead. Has now been charging for over 2 hours. I have cleaned the contacts, swapped chargers and just a black dead useless device! This thing is less than 2 months old.

@cshender  h hi, there can be 2 problems giving rise to your dead Sense.

First, there is a known bug of  excessive battery drain which has flattened your battery, from full charge in less than a day, so it's normal that 36% won't last a night and your battery is now flat.

Second, the charge cables are often faulty, so it's most likely not charging and it won't start with a flat battery.

Neither of these are watch faults.

Remedies, check the 4 pins on the charge cable are equally prominent, and gently check the resistance with the back of your nail for the pin spring pressure, assuming the holes on the back of the watch are clean.

If the charge cable is faulty contact support to send you a replacement cable under warranty.

For the excessive battery drain you can try disabling Bluetooth on the phone and once  you get the watch charged it should last normally.

If there is actually a watch fault take it back to the place you bought it for a new replacement under warranty.

If you contact support they may send you a refurbished replacement. So try the place of purchase first if it comes to that.

Replacement cables can also be bought separately on the internet if needed.

I was very lucky. Fitbit sent me a new Sense pretty quickly. I have no
complaints.

  • In my case it was my cord. I hadn’t realized that one of the protruding prongs had broken. Fitbit sent me a new cord. Problem solved

Thank you, that was my issue also. A pin was malfunctioning.

I have gone through two sense replacements in the last few months....each works for about a week, then won't charge at all. They have replaced for me twice and now again.

Somewhere in these forums i read something about not letting the battery run down past 20%. I don't think it's anywhere in the literature.

Here's hoping the third time is a charm.

Hi @Kathyss - you can run the battery till its flat [though not desirable]. If your Sense plays dead, it almost certainly isn't charging. Try a computer port to make sure.

See How to check charge cable - Sense/Versa 3 won't charge, won't start or blank screen

We tried all of that and more, including getting a new cable. They were
just dead.

I had the same issue. My Sense died.  I was sent a label and returned it January 4.  I received a new one March 5th (TWO months).   THAT one was inoperable. I spoke with someone that day via chat and she said they'd send me another new Sense and I didn't have to send one back. I received the new one March 10th.  It seemed to work. YAY! But two days later and I can't use it as the battery is still empty.  I've owned a Fitbit since February of 2013 and I'm about to jump ship.   I feel like I'm spending way too kuch time messing around with thus Sense.  Maybe it's tome for some other brand.

Everything is wrong with the Sense. The battery life is not what is listed on the website.

With just regular day to day activity without using the call, text or email, calendar  notification and/or Google assustant/alexa, even if the watch is sitting on the counter, it has a battery life of 4 days.

If I do 30 minutes active walk, or I'm up and going, with any use of the notifications, it takes 3 days or less.

My Versa that I got a year or 2 before the sense with rigorous use still have a better battery life than the Sense.

With the Versa, I used to do 3 hours active walk. I do challenges with my fitbit friends every week, it still last for 4 days.

I've used my Versa once since I got my Sense and the battery life is still 4 days.

Since my first fitbit tracker (flex), I have never had problem with my charger. I replaced my charger last year. I started with flex, charge, Versa, now Sense. Out of all the mentioned, I think the Versa, is the best.

I didn't want to go through the stress of going back and forth with customer service, so I went to Amazon, what seem to be a fitbit store to buy another charger.

I think the problem is the expectation. They were not truthful about the description of the watch.

The reason people go for fitbit is the battery duration of their smart watches. Otherwise there other smart watches that are better.

If they were truthful about the battery duration, it wouldn't make people think the product is defective.

I'll looking at Samsung to see their review. Maybe I'll using that when I need a new smart watch. At least they are not exaggerating the battery use duration.
