When I take off my watch and place it on the table, it still records a heart rate and think I went to sleep. How can I stop it from reading heart rate and sleep when it's off my wrist?

oh man you might actually be on to something here... my table seems to have the same heart beat as mine... Even my bed is alive...
Best AnswerIf I had to guess why it was happening, I'd rule out the table heartbeats. I think when I put it down, it records stillness and thinks it's sleep. Maybe some light gets reflected occasionally from off the table. My sleep ratings look like I was dead asleep the entire time my watch is down because my watch "couldn't get a consistent heart-rate." Like you said, cheap trackers don't have this issue, and the more expensive sense should have some on/off wrist detection.
It has wrist on off detection. You need to enter pin code if you remove it from your wrist. Try placing it face down on the table. Either your device is faulty or you live on another dimension. Non of my tables are alive.
Best AnswerWhat do you mean enter a pin code? I'll try placing it upside down. I typically don't do that because I worry about screen scratches.
Best AnswerWhen device lock is activated, mandatory when using fitbit pay on the Sense. The pin code must be entered once every 24 hours or when taking the watch off the wrist.
I noticed the leds dont always turn off if placed on the side and close to a flat surface reflecting the light. Works better placing it face down.
Best Answer@Zman94 hr sensor is an optic sensor that means it will try to read any surface. I would expect number change tho obviously. Solution is to flip the sense with its sensor up - belly up! The lights should stop blinking.
Seems like fitbit optical sensor can't see if a surface is skin with blood vessels or wood/glass
Surely in combination with all the different sensors on the watch it can figure out what it is "seeing".
Workaround of "belly up" are fine for some people but not functional as we won't be able to see the time without flipping watch over.
This should be treated as a bug/defect maybe.
@HSS79 put it on the side then. It's not bug/defect as it's down to absorbance measurements. Besides, it is possible to wear the watch and be entirely still. So other sensors wouldn't help much here.
Best AnswerI think this is a bug/defect. It is possible to be completely still while wearing the watch, but it also records a normal heart rate. When it's on its side, it knows there is an abnormal heart rate and it still thinks it's on your wrist. Additionally, this happens while leaving it on the charger. There should be an easy programmatic check there to tell the watch to stop checking to see if I'm asleep while it's charging.
Also, "belly up" seems to be a functional work around in the meantime.
My Sense dont measure any HR when on the charger, there is a gap in the HR readings, the same when put on the table. It really should not give any reading while on the charger. The behavior has been the same with both the old and newer firmware.
@Zman94 no, it shouldn't happen on the charger. In any other instance optic sensor will record a reading if there's anything to read. As simple as that. If you have tried rebooting and it hasn't helped, I would recommend a factory reset.
Best AnswerI've been having similar issues with sleep detection. Also, recording HR while charging. Mine is also set to normal and not sensitive. It has done it while charging, while walking around, all sorts of strange things. Just an FYI that yours is not the only Sense that is being weird about these things.
I will try belly-up for charging, like you, but that does seem like only half of a patch for what is obviously a sleep detection bug.
Best Answer@sarcazm when on charger my sense shows HR on display but nothing is actually captured. See image below. When belly up the sensor is off.
Best AnswerThanks for your post, Marrmaduke. It seems we have different ones, mine is "alta HR" but I can see many of us have some difficulties. It helps to know I'm not alone...😊
