Sense is tracking sleep data when I'm not wearing it

When I take my Sense off and don't wear if for some time it records the period as a nap. Is there a setting or fix for this? Thanks

Hi, @dverted , the best way to avoid this happening is to turn off your Sense when you are not wearing it!  Doing this will save battery as well.  To shut down your Sense swipe left until you come to the settings menu and swipe up and tap shutdown.

Hi there, @dverted. Thanks for stopping by in the Fitbit Community Forums and sharing the inconvenience with your Sense.

Please note sometimes your Sense can't detect you have taken it off and if it hasn't moved for about an hour, your Fitbit device records that you’re asleep. For more details, see How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?

As @Julia_G suggested, you could try turning off your Sense when you take it off to prevent this from happening. For more information, see How do I turn off my Fitbit device?

Thanks for that Marre. I upgraded from a Versa 2 which didn't have this issue. Just a bit disconcerting to see all these 'naps' without stats on my records now. Rather than shut the Sense down why not Fitbit put a 'Pause' option in the Quick Settings or as an App that you can select to pause the Sense from recording when you take it off your wrist. And then the "Pause' switches off automatically when you put the Sense back on. Much more sensible than looking to shut it down each time, and it would be just a software update. Cheers.

@dverted   I have a simpler suggestion for you.  The green LEDs are supposed to turn off when you remove your Fitbit.  If they stay on, the light is reflecting off the band, and your Fitbit keeps tracking data.  It's completely spurious data, but it's there.  No movement + data tracked by the LEDs = sleep.  Just make sure the LEDs turn off before you walk away.  The Versa 2 pin attachment system is very different and it's easier for it to lie flat.  This happens with other models, too.

Hi Laurie, yes I noticed the LED's kept blinking for some time after taking it off. What's the best way of making sure they go off. Maybe lay it on something to match the band curve profile? Would that work? Cheers.

@dverted   I tend to see the LEDs stay on if the two parts of the band are overlapping or if it is on its side and too close to something else.

@dverted and @LZeeW , I don’t think in many cases simply making sure the LEDs are off will work, unless the Fitbit is somewhere very stable and in a fairly heavily carpeted room.  Unless the Fitbit is actually turned off, it is also designed to re-activate the LEDs when it detects vibrations.  If you have hard floors, and walk across a room even if you don’t touch a Fitbit sitting on a table, it will pick up the vibration and then start collecting false data all over again.

I haven’t actually confirmed this with my Sense, but it definitely is the way previous Fitbits have worked.  I frankly don’t understand the reluctance to turn it off when it is not in use (it took Fitbit years to come up with one that you actually COULD turn off to prevent this sort of thing… ) I’d think that is a simpler process to just power it down, than making sure the LEDs are off (and never jiggled again until next wanted).

Thanks Julia. It's not a reluctance to turn the Sense off, but to make it easier and far more 'obvious' if you want to pause or shut it down. One quick action or an app would be more 'user friendly'.
