I just got the sense. I wanted it because of the smart alarm, but also to count steps. The step counter is, essentially worthless. I have tried every solution I can find (reinstalling, wearing the band more tightly, changing sensitivity during sleep, restarting, - everything.) I wake up and I have logged steps in my sleep. I can sit in a chair, and steps appear. I can also walk 50 steps and NO steps show up. I gave up. I now just have a nice smart watch. I went back to my inspire to count steps. I haven't seen anyone offer an actual fix, as in a software update. I have a couple of days to determine if I will send it back.

It would seem your watch is faulty. Probably best to get it replaced with a new one under warranty, where you bought it.
You can also contact Fitbit Support directly. They may be able to help you but it only may be a refurbished replacement.
