Watch should not allow for pause just by pushing a button. It is too easy to accidentally hit it when you bend your wrist even when "worn higher". Allow the user to disable the option for the button to pause and force them to use the screen options to pause and resume.
Alternate would be for watch to continue to track heartrate while on pause and allow user to adjust the length of their workout to "fix" the workout calculation when accidentally turned off.

Welcome to the Fitbit community.
I have yet to accidentally pause a workout and I do various types of pushups (decline, Plyometric push-ups, etc). I had more accidental pushed with my Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle because of the button that stuck out. If anything, I think that's why Fitbit went for the pressure sensitive button (It's not actually touch sensitive because tapping it does nothing) and removed the physical buttons it had on the Versa 2, to prevent accidental inputs. It would also take two presses to pause, one to wake and one to pause) for me because I use screen automatic setting.
Do you wear it on your left or right wrist? I do left wrist which could make the difference.
