What does the red light on Sense measure?

I'm not that smart when it comes to sensors. But I do know that a green strobing light on fitness equipment means it's tracking your heart rate. I just got the fitbit sense, and all of yesterday I noticed it had TWO green sensors, but this morning one of them was red? Just curious what it's supposed to be measuring, and why it changed color suddenly... Much appreciated!
