How does Sleep score work?

Can someone please explain Sleep Score to me

My Charge 3 use to do that too.  I would go into where you use to be able to see your average and add an entry.   I would approximate what time I went to bed and it would update with the sleep cycles sometimes I would have to get out of the app and go back in.

No one wanted this, most people were a-ok with just having the average hours slept per week and the hours slept per day. I don't like this sleep score feature at all.

I like to see the average hours I sleep over time. That is the ONLY reason that I bought a fit bit.

 

Could users have one of the following options:

 

1) choose whether they want sleep hours or sleep score

 

2) have both

FYI - You can still see the weekly average hours of sleep for each week within the app. From the home page, click on sleep. You should now be on the sleep page and see the annoying sleep score graph at the top. Swipe the graph left and you come to the Hours Slept graph. Tap it. You should now see a graph for average hours of sleep this week and the tally of your average at the top. Now, swipe right and you will see last week’s average hours of sleep. Swipe right again to see the week before that, and so on.  

So yes, it’s still there inside the app. And yes, I’m still annoyed that you have to dig this far down into the app to see this data, whereas the sleep score data is far more accessible and far less useful. Grrr!

Don’t be so anxious about a sleep score of 90. My scores are in the 60s and 70s. I exercise daily, go to bed and wake up at the same time 7 days a week, take one cup of coffee when I wake up in the morning, consume no alcohol, and turn off all electronic media a few hours before bed. I sleep with my window open and wear an eye mask to ensure light does not disturb me. As far as a know I am not anxious about my sleep. I wake a lot at night sometimes for an hour or so at a time at which times I get up and read or whatever (as the sleep specialist said I should). I am 66 and healthy. Some nights I get no deep sleep whatsoever or perhaps 5 or 6 minutes - that's probably why my scores are so low. I do not get sleepy or tired during the day so I am OK with all of that, but I would be delighted with a score of 90. 😊

I find the sleep score stressful. I have lost the desire to wear my fitbit because of it. I have joint pain and though I may get up to 7 hours sleep sometimes I feel like a failure because of the consistently low sleep score. I didn't buy this product to make me feel bad about myself. The developers should at least give us the option to turn it off. I contacted customer support about this and they told me to just post it on this forum. I hope this company does something about this immediately. It's unacceptable to pay so much for a product that now suddenly makes you feel bad about yourself.

Woah! that's terrible.  Please don't let a 'score' keep you from using the great other things built into the watch.  It's only a score.  I will give you a score of 98.5 for sharing and doing great stuff for your exercise, and eating and sleep.  Don't give up.  They will modify it soon I think.

I only received a 90 once on a weekend when I slept 13 hours.   Most of my score are in the 60 or 70’s.   I have had anxiety disorders for over 10 years.   I have a parent with dementia and am constantly stressed.   I don’t need anything else that makes me feel like a failure.  If the tracker was a least accurate I wouldn’t mind, but when I am having active dreams the tracker shows that I am awake. I still can’t see my weekly average, but I’m much happier going back to my origin Alta without the heart rate monitor and getting credit for all of my sleep time.   When this eventually stop working I will not buy another Fitbit product.

Same here! I thought only babies would get a score of 90 🙂
I am trying to just consider this a way of learning about my own unique way of sleeping. Granted, one of the reasons I bought the Versa was to learn about my sleep. I am hoping that my score will at some point improve. For now, it is all very useful to me.

I too think that it is just awful to think one is "failing" when the sleep score if low or just fair. After all, the score is just a starting point that can be improved upon.

I like the sleep score feature. For everyone so upset about it not showing your sleep average anymore... do you not have calculators right there on your phone? Finding the average of something is super basic math. I’m astounded by the complaints.

My complaint is that my Fitbit doesn't even support the sleep score (Charge HR). Doesn't seem to be in the best interest of the customer to "force" a new feature on them when their device doesn't even support it. Make it optional whether the sleep score or average sleep is the information that someone wants and is easy to get access. Sleep score for me and my HR will always be zero. Not useful---same as if I didn't own a Fitbit, lol. I can still access my average sleep via a shortcut link I put on my phone. Not as convenient as having it right there with the other sleep info like before though.

Yes, you can figure your average sleep out yourself but I'm also sure there is a formula for sleep score, too. Probably not "basic" math, but with calculators one could figure it out. Just plug the numbers in the right place. Would that work for you?

Fitbit, make it optional whether you want average sleep time or you want sleep score readily accessible. Thank you.

The majority of the complaints including mine is that we are not finding any value in the score.   In addition this should be an option if you prefer to see the score or average time, not something that is forced on us.   I do use a calculator to find mg average time; however I shouldn’t have to.  I paid for this product and choose Fitbit for a specific reason.  The score is no longer fitting my needs. I can buy anything that counts my steps.   In addition neither my Alta or Charge 3 show any difference in what activity I’m doing.

Here’s my issue. Couple nights ago, I went to bed at 10 pm and fell asleep quickly. I slept well and got a sleep score of 69 and Fitbit showed I did not go to sleep until after midnight. Last night I tossed and turned woke up many times throughout the night and generally woke up feeling not great. Other nights I sleep well and fit bit says I was awake for 2 hours in the middle of the night. I never used to have these issues. Been an avid fitbitter for 7 years. In looking into sleep score it seems like just a way to get more money out of us. If you buy premium, we will tell you how to fix sleep issues. This might be my last Fitbit.

I had the same issues with the start or end of my sleep time.  If you are in the sleep log for that day and go to the three dots in the upper right corner you can edit the sleep time to what time you think you fell asleep.  It will analyze the new time.   If I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom it wouldn’t show that I went back to bed or the same as you, and not show what time I went to bed accurately.

I totally agree. It’s kind of a bummer when you wake up feeling good and refreshed only to find the Fitbit says you only slept “fair.”  Really?  Why do I feel so good then?  It should be a feature that can be displayed  or not depending on preference. I just find it annoying.

Agree. The sleep score makes no sense. I can be above average in all my sleep phases and get 7+ hrs of sleep and previously I was happy with this but now I'll see a low sleep score compared to a night where I may been below average in some of my sleep phases yet the score was higher. Last night I woke up to let my dog out at 5:30. I went back to bed and woke up at 7:30. My fitbit thought I woke at 7:30 so I had to edit my wakeup time but my sleep score remained the same. I got 8+ hrs of sleep, was within the normal range for all sleep phases yet my sleep score was poor - only a 59!
