Just charged up my surge after a year of leaving it sitting in a drawer and now the selection function button on the left is completely unresponsive. Tried to do a reset but that doesn't seem to work either. Any one know how to fix it or is it junk for the bin?

Sometimes you need 2 or 3 restarts before it works, so I would try that.
I assume it is probably out if warranty if it has been sitting around for more than a year, otherwise I would suggest getting in touch with Fitbit Customer Support on contact.fitbit.com. But you might contact them to see what they say.
I hope you are able to bring it back to life.
