Disgusted! With Ongoing Band problem! My daughter in law and I both had our Surge Fitbits replaced easily due to bubbling of the band about a year ago. Both have subsequently done the same thing but Fitbit will not replace due to being outside the original warranty! Seriously...this is an ongoing manufacture and or material defect that we the consumer are being asked to ignore!! Sorry Fitbit....my Surge is going in the bin.

my band is also bubbling - same issue as I did have to get the surge replaced for a different issue - then the new one has a bubbling band - I love this, but am out of original purchase warranty, but within on this one. Very frustrating

Best Answer

My band was bubbling too but then one side came unglued. 15 months old and now useless. Support chat offered 25% discount for a new one with a know product defect.

Not happy. How many other wrist band issues are out there that Fitbit is ignoring?

I have noticed the bubbling band issue has started with my Fitbit Surge as well.  I 'purchased' mine through Airmiles Rewards just before Christmas 2016.  I have also noticed that the battery charge will show full but sometimes will last less than a day and other times for several days with identical use and no GPS usage.  It seems quite random and unpredictable.  Is Fitbit replacing these defective units?

yes, if you have warranty 🙂

if not, ... then you need to buy a new product that lasts for several months

Not sure why this has been accepted as a solution except that it is the only solution customer support is authorized to offer.  My Surge is still under warranty so I have been given the options of a replacement tracker or a discount on buying a different one.  The agent was pleasant but could only regurgitate the company line that 'our engineers are working on improving materials and design to prevent ongoing issues with the bubbling band'.  That is fine but there is no assurance that the replacement tracker is going to incorporate these 'improvements' so what my warranty gets me is a guarantee that my replacement tracker will fail likely in a similar fashion at some point in time after the warranty expires.  The warranty on the replacement is only for the time remaining on the original tracker warranty.  I am considering taking the second options and switching to the Charge 2 from the Surge but again have no assurances that similar defects in materials and design may be an issue.  By switching I would lose the built in GPS which is a nice feature but gain some other features and probably a more versatile fit with a slightly smaller watch.  The agent could not offer any advice beyond go to the website and do your own comparison.  Does anyone have any experience with the Charge 2 being a more reliable/durable tracker?

The agent also did not mention whether there were any shipping or other charges involved in either replacement option. Do you have any information on this.

I have encountered the exact same problem with a bubbling  Surge wrist band how do I get this rectified ?

Is it possible to get replacement wrist bands?

Fitbit need to deal with as it quite obliviously a design flaw.

Had another Surge with a strap that bubbles. Happy with fitbit tech and service but not the product. Has anyone been able to change to a different one (i.e. a blaze) without having to pay another £90? Seems wrong that I'd have to lay out more than £200 to just get one working item.

There are replacement bands on Amazon check out the other forums On here about the broken bands others have replaced their bands. You tube also has video on how to replace them. Fitbit doesn't replace the surge band these are non genuine bands but others have had success with them and saved buying a new tracker. Good luck! I have a Garmin vivoactive hr and don't regret changing.

Hello everybody, thanks for visiting the Fitbit Community.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced, the development team is constantly working to improve the Fitbit products. I forwarded your comments for consideration.

@DMRiske If after evaluating your case you are eligible for a replacement and you are located in the United States there shouldn't be any charges. If necessary you can find the Fitbit return and warranty policy through this link.

@big-caboose I've opened a case with the Support team regarding your issue. They should be in contact with you soon.

@eamsey The Fitbit Surge has no interchangeable bands. I've created a case with Customer Support to provide assistance to your situation as soon as possible. Please check out your inbox during the next days. Thank you for the patience in the meantime.

Keep on stepping.
