Not sure if this will answer the bike distance compared to the days step distance.
Since Biking is not a step based activity, the distance a user bikes will not be added to the daily step distance displayed on the main dashboard. This change was made at the request of the fitbit users.
So you may blame your fellow fitbit users for this change.
Now that bike distance has been removed, we have a set of users who are unhappy.
Sorry @EddieB1 the OP was not very specific by what was meant by dashboard. It wasn't explained until their 6th post.
We also have a request to remove the false steps durring a bike ride, and a request to convert all bike distance into steps and add this to the daily step totals.
For the competitions, it I'd felt to be best to only have step based activities added.

Hey there, @Liv2gro! Welcome to the Family!
The distance of the workout will appear in your Dashboard after you sync (when it applies). In this case, it is best to log out from your account, log back in, and then go to your Activity Log. I would recommend to check in both the Online Dashboard and the Fitbit app, to confirm if the distance is showing in both.
If you aren't seeing the distance, please provide with a screenshot of your activity log. That would help me look into this.
I'll be around if you need anything else.

Hi are you confusing auto activity and manually activated GPS? With walking on auto your input stride length will give you distance, based on number of steps x stride. With auto cycling this doesn't happen. You just get heart rate info and calories burnt and exercise time.
If you go into GPS for cycling it will also record distance as it will for any other GPS based activity.
Edit - my fault - I reread your original post, don't think what I just said is relevent.

Thank you for joining us @Chris1963! Also, thank you for the pictures @Liv2gro. There seems to be a problem with them loading, but don't worry!
Adding a little on the information my friend @Chris1963 provided, if you are tracking your hike with Multisport, you will see the distance and a GPS map of that hike. Multisport is a feature on your Surge that allows you to track an activity using GPS (for certain activities). You can use it by pressing the Home Button and swiping to Run or Exercise screens. You'll know whether the activity uses GPS if you see a GPS icon next to the heart rate icon.
If you don't use Multisport, your tracker will record your workout automatically with SmartTrack, but SmartTrack won't show the distance in your dashboard, just steps and calories. You can determine if your activity was tracked by SmartTrack because you will see the option for editing, and the distance will show as N/A:
Let me know if you have any further questions!

Good morning @Liv2gro! Thank you for replying, I'd like to mention that for Bike and Hike activities using Multi-Sport you have to make sure that your Surge is connecting properly, when the GPS function on your Fitbit Surge is not connecting properly you might have some missing information. Take a look of this pictures.
I have 3 different Bike activities tracked by my Surge:
1. Shows all the information, including the map and distance, this was tracked by Multi-Sport option.
2. Shows Outdoor Bike tracked by SmartTrack. (this is automatic track)
3. Doesn't show distance or picture, this was tracked by Multi-Sport as well but GPS was not connecting properly.
Are you able to see the map in your "Hike or Bike" activities", I would like you to restart your tracker, restart your phone and check if you're using the most recent version of Fitbit App.
Let me know if it helps!

Hi there,
I guess I wasn't clear on my original post. When I look at the individual exercise log for a bike ride, it shows the map and the distance but it doesn't show the distance on the main dashboard. When I go for a hike it shows it in both places. It seems it should work the same but maybe not?
Thanks for your help!

Nice to see you again @Liv2gro! Thank you for the clarification. It sound like right to me, main Dashboard will show only a brief summary of your exercises, if you're getting all the details when you check the individual exercise you don't have to worry.
Keep up the super stepping!

Nice to see that you're digging into the Forums @tremblaymart, let me give you a warm welcome to our Community.
You can manually log distance from your PC and mobile device too. I suggest using the same information that your Activity History has and later on erase the activity that doesn't have distance.
1. Log into your fitbit.com dashboard.
2. Click on the Log>Activities option. You can find it at the top of the page.
3. You will see some exercise icons you can choose from or search for the specific activity on the search bar. You can create a custom activity if you are not able to find the option you are looking for.
4. Fill out all the fields (date, distance, duration, start time and calories) of your activity. The calorie burn amount is not optional, so take as reference the calorie burn amount of a similar activity to the one you are create.
5. Click Log Activity. Your activity will now be visible and editable in the Logged Activities area.
To manually log an activity from your mobile device: Tap on your "Track exercise" (it has a picture of a little man running) > Tap on stop watch (in the upper right corner) > Enter the information.
Please note that manually log activities don't count towards Challenges!
I'll be around!

Hey guys. Sorry, Fitbit staff, but you are not answering the question here. Basically the problem is as follows (giving my Monday as example):
- For the day I have a bike ride tracked with connected GPS - I see the map and all.. The distance of the exercise is 4km
- Looking at my dashboard for the same day, I see only 3.53 km for the whole day.
Clearly, if the distance from my ride was taken into account I should have had more than 4km for the day. This is either a bug, or you have to advise which activities are not counted towards your daily dashboard stats.
Please advise

Hi @SunsetRunner thanks for step into the Forums. Thanks for sharing your experience regarding to GPS tracking and distance tracked. That's sounds definitely odd. Would you mind sharing with us some screenshots of what you can see there? Did you manually log activities for that day?
I'll be around.
