Fibit vs. Map My Ride discrepancy

I'm having a recent problem with Fitbit and Map My Ride. It seem like it's gotten much worse lately, has there been an upgrade? I've had the Fitbit autodetect the ride and set it manually, results are much the same.

My last ride per Fitbit (set manually to bike) was 26.06 miles, 2:04:56 min, 1250 calories.

Map My Ride stats were 26.56 miles, 2:02:50 min, 1705 calories.

A couple of days ago I rode 30.28 miles per Map My Ride, 1914 calories.

Fitbit was on autodetect so It didn't have miles but the calorie total was 969 (which seems aboslutely impossible for 30 miles, heart rate was 89. I'm in decent shape but that seems totally impossible also.

I cleaned the heart rate sensor, rebooted twice. These are recent changes, the last week or so. Has there been a software upgrade that could account for this or is it wearing out?

a software upgrade from Map My Ride ?

maybe they changed their software.

Did you ask them, also ?

They did upgrade Map My Ride a couple of weeks before this began, I think it was more aesthetic than functional though, the stats didn't really change. I think it has to be the Fitbit, I can't see how a 30 mile ride on less than a thousand calories is even a possibility. They were always slightly lower but it was a consistent difference, they've dropped radically now.

I suspect HR problems here. I wear a Polar chest strap and use Fitbit smart and occasionally the GPS mode.

On auto Fitbit and Polar are within a few calories over 30 miles, times are different as Polar pauses when I stop. Also very different average HR as Polar is accurate and Fitbit cant cope with rapid rises and falls in HR.

On GPS the Fitbit is about 20% out on calories to the Polar, no idea why they would use a different algorithm for calculating calories unless it is the HR tracking being different.

I take no notice of HR and calories on activities but this kinda defeats the purpose...

Hello guys @Chris1963 @John1422 @SunsetRunner, welcome to the Fitbit Community! Smiley Very Happy I'd suggest checking this post of @AndrewFitbit where he shares information about syncing MapMyRide and Fitbit.

Hope that helps!
