The battery shows as fully charged but within an hour or so the phone is completely dead - blank screen and then has to be charged again.

Hope you’re having a great day @LolMac! Welcome aboard. Sorry to read about the issues with your Surge. Please take a look of this tips that might improve your Fitbit battery life. I also suggest to restart your Surge in case that this issue is been caused by hardware issues.
If this doesn't help your little buddy, please take advantage of our Customer Support, so they can further investigate the issue.
