Welcome to the Formums! 🙂 You can turn the heart rate off directly from your tracker, just go to your tracker settings. scroll down to heart rate and make sure it is "On"  or "Auto".  If after this your tracker is not detecting your heart rate try to restart it.  Also occasionally your tracker may have difficulty getting a strong signal. If you don't see your heart rate on your tracker, first make sure you are wearing it correctly. Experiment with placing the tracker higher on your wrist; because blood flow in your arm increases the farther up you go, moving the tracker up a couple inches can be helpful. Also, make sure you're not wearing your tracker too tightly; a tight band restricts blood flow, potentially affecting the heart rate signal.

I've my fitbit surge less than a week also, i've switched the heart monitor to ON because it kept losing my heart rate as in reporting -- during my insanity workouts, this has made no difference. I've tried cleaning it during workouts thinking it was sweaty, i've also tried adjusting the tightness and its made no difference.

What gives? its completely skewing the calories burned during exercise for one. The one thing i will say that i've noticed is that it tends to lose it when my heart rate is at its highest, almost as if its lost it because it doesnt believe it to be accurate (160+).

Hello @STARBUG welcome to the Forums! With high-intensity interval training, P90X, insanity, or other activities where your wrist is moving vigorously and non-rhythmically, the movement may prevent the sensor from finding an accurate heart rate. Similarly, with exercises such as weight lifting or rowing, your wrist muscles may flex in such a way that the band tightens and loosens during exercise. Try relaxing your wrist and staying still briefly (about 10 seconds), after which you should see an accurate heart rate reading. Note that your tracker will still provide accurate calorie burn readings during these types of exercise by analyzing your heart rate trends over the course of the workout.
