Hi! I bought a fitbit surge from a guy for $150, I just saw that he is selling the exact one for a little bit more, how do i see if I bought a stolen fitbit?

I don't think there's any way of telling since it's not guaranteed that anyone would know if it's stolen. I guess you could ask CS if it's ever been registered to another account but I don't think they'd be willing/able to answer.

Welcome @Monique35! Currently there is no way to know if a tracker is stolen or not. On caes like this, we recommend purchasing your tracker form authorized retailers. By doing, your tracker will be covered by the warranty Fitbit offers.

Now that some time has passed on this thread is Fitbit's answer still the same on this? Is there no serial number database of stolen devices?

Buying used items is a great way to save a little cash for people and being able to limit liability is a good idea.

I am in the market to buy a Fitbit from either Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. Ionic Fitbits are being listed for 50% the price of a retailer in my area. I would like a way to check to make sure I do not end up with stolen property.

Hi @jbot

I agree that it's nice to save money whenever possible and you might have a good experience. From the forums, so many people have purchased a Fitbit and had problems that resulted in their having to return it (eBay mostly) or buying a new one when they could afford it.

There are no serial numbers on the devices that we can see when holding the device. Customer service can tell you when the device was first set up, but it can't tell you if the person selling it is the real owner. Remember, on these forums, people use different names, not their real ones.

Whatever you do, the best of luck to you.
