I recently updated my OnePlus One from Cyanogen 12.1 (Android 5.1) to Cyanogen 13 (Android 6.0.1) and I've started to notice some sync problems with my Fitbit surge.
The last few days it will seem to work fine for a few hours, but at some point it just loses the ability to sync. I've tried restarting the tracker, switching Bluetooh on and off, and rebooting the phone. Nothing seems to consistently fix the problem. I've occasionally been able to get the tracker and my phone to sync again, but it doesn't seem to last very long. I got it to sync this evening twice, and then it stopped again.
I get both the "can't find tracker" and "couldn't connect for live data" errors from the app.
This wouldn't be a huge problem, except that the FitBit app for Mac also seems to sometimes lose connection to the dongle on El Capitan, so at this point I don't have a system at home that is able to consistently sync with my FitBit Surge.

I read this article in the past : Which Android devices have known issues with the Fitbit app? in the area Various Any non-custom OS Syncing options may be missing.
Also the information: If you are running OS 6.0 (Marshmallow), please note that Google has changed the permissions required for Bluetooth syncing. You must turn on location services to sync your tracker (Settings > Location). For more information about the latest Google permission requirements, see Google's Android 6.0 Changes document.

Location services are on, so unfortunately that's not the fix.
I think I've found a solution to my problems with the sync dongle on El Capitan. So at least I can sync with my laptop.

im having the same problem with my surge. wont sync until i turn it off then back on again and that seems to be the only way to do it and its becoming more hit and miss if it works or not. seems its not an isolated problem with it

I've noticed on my OPO that syncing does seem to work, just sporadically. It's like it will sync in the background, but when I open the app it usually fails.
In the last two weeks I switched over to Google's Project Fi, so I've been using a Nexus 5x instead of my OPO and it's been much better. It's also running Marshmallow though, so I'm not sure if the Doze mode is actually the issue. I've also noticed since switching to the Nexus 5x that the battery life on Surge seems to have improved.

@Adrian-J Welcome to our Community and thank you for sharing what you did to to sync your tracker. This will surely help other members in the same situation. Also make sure you have the app up to date and avoid any battery saving programs from disabling GPS or Bluetooth.
