Surge GPS

Hello

My surge is brilliant for everything except GPS.

I track my runs with it and between 0.5 to 0.75 miles in it starts to drift off the correct route.

Not only is it shortening my runs it is showing me running through houses.

I have tracked the same run with my phone on Strava and its spot on.

How can I improve the GPS as its not good enough, really disappointed.

I don't live near high rise buildings, I live in a village with houses and trees. I've tried in different weathers, with or without clouds.

It's not environmental, it's a hardware/software issue.

Any advice??

Thanks

Chris

Same issue over here. I'm consistently .3-.5 miles short. Drives me mad. I'd love to know if there's a fix. I'm flirting with trying another tracker!

I am too as my runs are either out or I can't use the display whilst running.

Fitbit, would it be that hard to enable connected GPS onto the surge so users have a choice of GPS or connected if GPS is not so reliable for them?

This would make the surge my perfect tracker.

I've started a feature request. Enable connected gps option on surge. It's already written code on the blaze so can't be hard to integrate into the surge.

Hey hey hey @Chrisjbooth nice to see you around and a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community @Weemo ! 😄 I think this post that was made by @SunsetRunner could explain this discrepancy you're experiencing.
On the other hand that is a nice idea @Chrisjbooth and @Weemo you should vote for it 😉

Keep me posted. Have a wonderful day!

Thanks Thomas, my husband is in telecoms so I know about signals and
triangulation however for me running with others using the same routes I am
consistently .3-.5miles behind the group which can consist of 10-15
runners. It's frustrating. I understand that there must be a margin but it
just seems that I'm consistently logging the same runs as my peers. Map
showing the same route but distance too short. I probably wouldn't be too
bothered if it was the other way round 😉 it really messes with my pace
though. I'm losing 30secs per km if I run to make up the shortfall.

Weemo, vote for connected GPS. Mobile phone in a bum bag or pocket and you'll have accurate GPS.

Defeats the purpose though doesn't it. I could use a whole load of other
cheaper and better looking devices if I was happy to carry my mobile with
me on every run. I'm not that's why I chose a device with inbuilt gps. It's
a shame. This is my third Fitbit. I've had the charge and then the charge
hr. The gps is my only complaint but it is a pretty big one given that's
the whole usp for that product!

I agree, however I've bought it now. An option to enable connected GPS if you want it would be a huge help for me.
