Treadmill steps vs. Fitbit steps

I’ve seen some of these questions answered before but wanted to ask for myself. I just purchased the Fitbit Surge yesterday and tried it out this morning at the gym. I ran on the treadmill for 42 minutes (5.02 miles) and my Fitbit Surge calculated 4.03 miles. My stride is set at 3'2" and I'm 5'10". Can anyone help me adjust this. I really do not want to have to put numbers in manually every time. Thanks you.

You stride is differnet on a treadmill. If you change it thewn your steps for normal will be off.

I just go with what I get and not worry about it

If you have one treadmill which is set to the exact same speed every time, and you correctly set your stride length for that particular treadmill, then your distance should line up.  Change the speed, add a hill program, or change which treadmill you're on and all bets are off.  Sorry, just a fact of life for this type of wrist based tracker.

The above said, if you opt to go outside and use your Surge's in-built GPS functions, then the stride length is ignored in favor of the GPS which usually does a pretty good job of figuring out where you went, how far, and how fast.
