Fitbit not syncing with MapMyRun

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

OK. I have a MapMyRun account and wanted to share workout data across platforms between my Fitbit account and MapMyRun account. Went to the third party apps page and followed the steps to link my Fitbit to MapMyRun. Then I went to MapMyRun and confirmed there that they are linked. When I synced the data in MapMyRun, imagine my unpleasant surprise when nothing from my Fitbit account showed up. Zip, nada, nil. I've completed two workouts since I linked the two, but no dice. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Same for me, nothing is showing up or working

Nothing here either.  Very disapointing..... very missleading on the advertising side.  Regretting the Surge over Garmin (or any of the others that link directly).

After a bit of research, it looks like it's on the horizon.  I found this on the Fitbit developer page.

Heart Rate, GPS, and OAuth 2.0 Coming Soon
Fitbit recently announced three exciting new products: Charge, Charge HR, and Surge. We're also excited to announce that the Fitbit API will provide access to the all day heart rate and GPS data from these devices. These data types will be accessible exclusively via OAuth 2.0. We'll be sharing more information about these new endpoints and our OAuth 2.0 transition in the coming months.

Timmyjstacy, thanks for checking into it; a bit misleading by Fitbit though; probably a legacy issue with previous versions of Fitbit trackers. Guess I'll have to manually enter my Fitbit workouts into MapMyRun until they've matured the development.

Any updates on this? I still can't sync from Fitbit to mapmyrun/mapmyfitness. I have a Surge, if that matters.
Best Answer

I wanted to compare strava and mapmyrun against fitbit, I run 4 times a week and fitbit records all that data, but it does not have any statistics about your runs (like average pace over time etc.). So I got strava and mapmyrun apps (the ones you pay for) and linked my fitbit account to each. Strava has all the runs that I record with my Surge, but nothing is going to mapmyrun. This is really frustrating, especually since fitbit has mapmyrun on the list of third party apps they integrate with. Can we get any answer from moderators here about why the syncing of the activities is not working with mapmyrun (steps, weight and distance do get thorugh)? This topic has been opened in March and there have still been no responses from the moderatos and why isn't this topic in the Unaswered questions? @MatthewFitbit @SilviaFitbit care to clarify?

I'm having the same issue. Bought it yesterday because I thought it would sync. Really disappointing to say the least. Fitbit moderators....thoughts?

msilver25,

You'll be disappointed. Fitbit has not responded since I posted my original concern back in March. What is that, 4 months? I thought a hip, new tech company like Fitbit would have learned about customer support relations and keeping your customers engaged and happy, but apparently not. They clearly don't care about actively moderating their forums. I am moving to another platform shortly. Though I'm content with my Surge, the support is terrible. I'll put up with a less capable device if I can get an egaged company that values its customers.

@Mr_Myxlplx @Nikola84 Hey there! I'll be happy to answer your questions Smiley Happy

Fitbit will sync distance and calories burned to MapMyRun. However, MapMyRun data won't sync to MapMyRun. As soon as your tracker syncs all your information should be updated in the third-party app.

If you're having any syncing issue, please unlink and relink both accounts.

@Nikola84 If you have a Surge tracker, you can track a run by selecting this feature in your tracker and then at the end of the walk, you're going to get pace, elevation, heart rate and calories burned. Regarding the Strava information going into MapMyRun, I'm not sure about that you may want to contact Strava directly.

Hope this helps.

I tried this but it did not work.  I have nothing but the MapMyRun activity in that app.

I have a Charge HR.  According to the MapMyRun website, the Charge HR is not supported.  So am I out of luck?  Or doesn't the MMR sync operate through the Fitbit app, not the actual device?

Help from Fitbit would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Best Answer
Yes, MMR pulls the info from the Fitbit API (the data it makes available to third party developers). There were statements that they were working on including the GPS features and other data in the API so it can be used by sites like MMR, but so far...... Crickets. I'm less than impressed. Also, the only answer they give for even the basic (step count) not syncing is to "unlink and relink your accounts." I dos that (numerous times) to no avail. I'm now SERIOUSLY regretting my purchase (of their most expensive tracker).

Thanks. I am glad it's not just me. I've also unlinked and relinked
multiple times with no luck.

Hello,

This isn't helpful.  There is a lot of trouble syning FITBIT data (including workouts) to MapMyRun.  Your post is not very helpful.  I have linked/unlinked the accounts several times and the only information is steps, distance, calories.  Workouts do not sync.  So it appears there is syncing, just not all the data - especially the workouts!  Fitbit users can't compare historical data to the new data collected by fitbit.

This is extremely misleading.  I just received a Fitbit Surge as a gift (an expensive gift) and this is incredibly disappointing.  Especially this response to everyone's queries about this.

@erinhager

I tried asking @SilviaFitbit, but it was clear from her response that she will not be helpful. I just gave up on Map My Run and continued using Strava with my Surge.

@erinhager Welcome to the Community! Thank you for the troubleshoot that you've done. That's correct Fitbit will sync distance and calories to MapMyRun. However, MapMyRun data won't sync to Fitbit.

You can do so many things with your Surge, you may want to check the Product Manual and continue learning everything you can do with it. As an alternative solution, there are other apps that you can link with Fitbit and the workouts will link to Fitbit. Personally, I use MyFitnessPal and the activities sync properly or you can try to use Endomondo.

Hope this helps.

My issue is that no Fitbit data is being transferred to MapMyRun.  MapMyRun shows that my fitbit is connected and it even says (as of now) that the last sync was 7 minutes ago.  Yet absolutely zero data from my fitbit is on MapMyRun.

Can you help?

@CM1965 It's great to have you here! Thank you for the details that you've mentioned. Please unlink and relink both accounts to see if you get them working.

If after trying this your data is still not syncing then please contact MapMyRun directly so they can investigate it.

Hope this helps.

@CM1965, if you go to maymyrun, you should see Activity Feed, My Dashboard, and 24/7 tabs.  If you select the 24/7 tab, you should see SOME of your Fitbit data.  Steps, heartrate.  It will not show up in your Activity Feed which completely stinks and your Workouts don't sync at all.  You may not track Workouts and it won't be a huge loss.  I do track Workouts and it that not syncing is a huge loss to me.  Good luck!
